Favorite setting powder? Nars LRSP.
Favorite finishing powder? I like the Nars powder for finishing as well, but I also love Hourglass Diffused Light and Bobbi Brown Porcelain Pearl
Favorite primer? Armani Fluidmaster. The first time I applied it, I was shocked, because on its own, it smoothed and evened my skin enough that it looked like I was wearing foundation.

■Your skin tone/coloring: C3/NC20
■Favorite setting powder? I only use regular face powder or powder foundation (not sure if those can be considered setting powders). Under the eyes I use the NYC Smooth Skin Pressed Face Powder, and on my face MAC Studio Fix Powder + Foundation.
■Favorite finishing powder? ELF HD Powder. LOVE it.
■Favorite primer? Hmmm, great question. Haven’t found any that help control oil the way I’d like.

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, cool undertones/pinkness (lol). Urban Decay NAKED Skin Liquid Foundation in 0.5, tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour in Fair
Favorite setting powder? MAKEUP FOREVER HD Microfinish Powder, if that counts.
Favorite finishing powder? Are setting and finishing powder the same? >_> If they aren’t, I don’t have one!
Favorite primer? Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Complexion Primer Potion. Keeps my combination skin totally matte and made my school picture look AH-MAY-ZING with the HD powder on top of my foundation. ^_^ I do like Too Faced Primed & Poreless but it’s a bit… Greasy feeling when you rub it in and doesn’t control oil. It does make pores disappear though! Leaves skin silky too.

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, cool
Favorite setting powder? Mac Prep+Prime (pressed or loose)
Favorite finishing powder? Same – MAC Prep+Prime (can someone explain to me – with examples – the difference between a setting powder and a finishing powder, please?)
Favorite primer? Hourglass Mineral Veil (for once, I didn’t even have to think about my answer)

Tigerlily Avatar

Hi Mariella – late answer but I hope it helps… One uses setting powder to help foundation stay in place (to literally ‘set it’ so it lasts longer) and/or just to control shine in certain areas (e.g. the T-zone). A finishing powder helps give your skin a bit of oomph, a bit of a glow if you will, to certain areas…or all over, as you feel like.

Personally I use Guerlain pressed Meteorites as a finishing powder on top of my LM setting powder. The latter tends to mattify my skin, so the former helps give the high points of my face (the cheekbones, esp.) more dimension. Side note: I don’t use a finishing powder if the blush I use (e.g. NARS Orgasm) is on the shimmery side, as it does the job of highlighting my skin on its own.

Light-Medium, golden undertones, and lean a little more towards warm.

Right now it’s NYX Stay Matte Not Flat foundation powder in Natural. I’m combi-oily and this does what it claims for me. I wear it over a thin liquid foundation for more coverage.

Not sure. The NYX works fine on its own and I’d look too powdery.

I’m still looking. I do like the feel of the Hourglass one, though.

Favorite setting powder? The only powder I use is my powder foundation which is Sephora Microsmooth Foundation Powder. I don’t apply any other powders because my foundation stays on well on its own.

Favorite finishing powder? N/A

Favorite primer? I use Monistat Anti-chafing Powder Gel, and it is wonderful! It makes my face silky smooth, and it keeps all of my makeup in place all day. Before I started using it, my makeup would melt after a few hours. I am curious to try MUFE HD Primer in 0 however (but only because I love MUFE products, not because my current primer doesn’t work).
