Survey Says... April 5th, 2023
Happy Wednesday! Here's this week's survey, which you can copy and paste and share as a comment.
- Your skin tone/coloring:
- Worst lip product you’ve ever tried?
- Worst eye product you’ve ever tried?
- Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried?
Your skin tone/coloring: MAC NC 20
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? Most liquid lips except the Bareminerals Gen Nude
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? YSL Babydoll mascara. Nauseatingly fragrant & so drying!
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? Colourpop cheek products come to mind. The powder blushes are so chalky & powdery. Loathe the texture of the Super Shock blushes/highlighters!
Your skin tone/coloring: above with freckles, green eyes, brown hair.
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? I don’t remember exactly what product it was, but it was either Maybelline or Cover Girl and it was a liquid lipstick formula that balled up in the center of my lips and stick together. It was very gross.
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? It was more of an eye product combo: MAC Painterly Paint Pot with NYX Glitter Primer and then a very emollient shadow. I have oily lids and that combo was HORRIBLE.
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? I can’t think of one in recent memory. But generally not a fan of super matte pigmented blushes.
What a fun bunch of questions!
Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral skin tone, green eyes, s&p hair
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? I’ve used so many lip products over so many decades, I don’t think I can remember the all-time worst. But the most recent awful lip product I’ve tried is Makeup By Mario Ultra Suede Lipstick in Erin. It was so drying, heavy, and uncomfortable that I couldn’t even keep it on my lips for more than an hour. Thank goodness I always carry a backup lipstick in my bag!
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? Too Faced White Chocolate Chip Palette. It should have been called “White Chalk-olate Chip.” Truly awful. On the brighter side, I only paid $8 for it at Nordstrom Rack. (Lol…I just noticed the photo used with the survey questions. I guess the full-size version must have been pretty bad, too!)
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit. I bought it several years ago and hated how chalky and chunky it looked on me.
Your skin tone/coloring: pale, cool
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? the only one I can think of is UD “Comfort Matte” (what a lie) in Love Drunk (gorgeous colour; dreadful texture). No – for sure it was Too Faced Melted Ruby Longwear Liquified Lipstick. It looked like red Sharpie marker on my lips and felt pretty much the same – UGH.
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? It’s probably a toss up between UD Maui Wowie (I even bought a 2nd one when it was “reformulated” in hopes it would be better) and Midnight Cowboy Rides Again. Both are such gorgeous colours but the uncontrollable fallout makes them unwearable for me.
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? MAC Mineralize Blush in Early Morning simply because the colour is hideous on me (way too orange). It breaks my heart because the finish is so beautiful.
Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name (blue-green eyes dark hair)
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? KVD Everlasting Liquid lipstick in K-Dub! Absolutely UGLY against my olive undertones! And, very drying, too.
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? Not due to the quality of how it looked on me. No, but the EXTREMELY severe allergic reaction to it that I suffered from: Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette! Man, that had me looking like I had the absolute worse case of conjunctivitis ever! No allergy warning for the sodium saccharine in it for sulfa allergy folks, either. And it really needs one before someone loses eyesight or an eye.
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? Just for the color tones alone, at least on me; Fenty Cheeks Out Cream Blush in Cool Berry looks like I got belted in the face…by my now ex-husband. Triggering my PTSD.
Skin tone/colouring: Very fair with neutral undertones (currently wearing Bareminerals Complexion Rescue in Opal)
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried: Fenty Semi-Matte Refillable lipstick. I hated the texture, it felt like the lipstick sat on top of my lips no matter how long I wore it.
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried: It’s a toss up between the Westman Atelier shadows (they crease so bad!) and those cream shadows RMS used to sell that I think have been discontinued with good reason: they lasted 10 minutes on the lid and I think I was allergic to them.
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried: Merit Flush Balm. Yes, they’re beautiful, but they have no lasting power.
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? Color wise it’s gotta be MAC Fleshpot (any of their slightly warm nudes go neon orange on me) but formula wise NYX Shine Loud High Shine was just terrible. Looked great, but my lips stuck together, patches flaked off and pilled, and what was left didn’t want to come off even with oil. (The color, Self Taught Millionaire, was gorgeous.)
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? A Josie Maran liquid shadow. It just ran into every line and left no color anywhere but in the folds. Super disappointing.
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? I have yet to meet a cheek product I hate!
YOUR SKIN TONE/COLORING:
Under my name; med. dark brown hair with red undertones and threaded with gray; hazel/green eyes.
WORST LIP PRODUCT YOU’VE EVER TRIED?
The original formula of the ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks. VERY inconsistent quality and tended to peel. Some colors gave me raisin lips. I’m glad they reformulated those.
WORST EYE PRODUCT YOU’VE EVER TRIED?
Melt Cosmetics 420 Palette. Expensive, and the unique colors had no pigmentation and we’re impossible to blend.
WORST CHEEK PRODUCT YOU’VE EVER TRIED?
A few years ago I tried some CoverGirl Instant Cheekbones and Classic Color blushes out of nostalgia, and they were horrible. Super powdery and lousy pigmentation.
Those glittery, dome-shaped UD highlighters… Illuminating, I think…are pretty terrible, as well.
Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? It was a L’Oreal lipstick that wasn’t supposed to be matte, but dried down to one and badly chapped my lips. I haven’t bought a lipstick from them since. And most liquid lipsticks from the past too – way too tacky for me.
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? There have been a few duds along the way – EL’s Emerald Oasis from the past because it completely lacked pigmentation and was as dry and dusty as a desert.
I really haven’t had any eyeshadow fails from the ones that I have bought after reading your reviews Christine though.
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? Every single Revlon blush I tried in the past – and also the Clarin’s blush in a coral peachy shade that lasted all of 1-2 hours on me before fading.
My worst cheek product is uninteresting – just a sheer blush from a “my first makeup kit” sold at the holidays – so I want to focus on my worst lip and worst eye product.
Your skin tone/coloring:
Mac NC38ish
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried?
I saw a pastel blue lipstick by a bargain brand at Daiso: KleanColor “Sky Dive”. Even putting aside the unflattering color – because the unflattering shade is the point! – it has iffy pigmentation and emphasized my lip lines. Waxy, dragged the skin, made my lips look like a joke – to be honest, I kind of love that I spent $1 on it, it because it’s so bad and unique that it’s really quite funny! I still keep it around because it makes me smile. Even though it’s an awful lipstick, the fact that it’s such an anti-luxury experience made it a delight.
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried?
Wet n Wild’s eyeshadow singles are often lovely, and a few shades are considered classics, like Nutty, a gorgeous satin neutral. This reputation led me to pick up WnW’s glitter singles: I like glitter, WnW singles are well-regarded, this will be great!
*No!* It is a glitter/vaseline combo! It removes makeup underneath and slides off shortly after application! Glitter glue cannot save you when you use WnW’s glitter singles!!
Your skin tone/coloring: fair with olive undertones. Brown hair and eyes
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? Liquid lipsticks in 2016!
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? So many mascaras are awful in my opinion! So smuggy- I get panda eyes in minutes
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? I’m sure there’s been worst, but recently I tried the glossier stick highlighter. It was so sticky! I’m so glad glossier is at Sephora now because I can finally sample products I’ve wanted for years and can learn they’re not all that. Saves money!
1. Very fair with cool undertone (MAC NW10)
2. ByTerry Baum de Rose gloss – I love roses but the scent was so strong I had to remove it after 5 min bc it wasn’t fading and it gave me a headache. I could still smell it for a few min afterwards!
3. PMG Mothership Subliminal I – the mattes were ok but the metallics and special shades were so lackluster and dry. Even with the 30% discount, it’s still overpriced. I prob wouldn’t have been as disappointed if the Mothership palettes weren’t as hyped up as they are.
4. Rare Beauty pressed highlighter in Enlighten – the shade itself is great for my skintone but it’s incredibly glittery and I hate glittery highlights. I bought it based on the description of it being glassy, not glittery, but after reviews came in saying it is glittery, the description on Sephora’s site changed to: 50% microshimmer in a semi-sheer base; in other words, very sparkly.
Ha! Chuckled seeing the questions asked this next to that palette!
Your skin tone/coloring: Style a yellow-neutral baby (NC 37ish & PML LM13)
Worst lip product you’ve ever tried? Maybe Estée Lauder’s Pure Envy (bleed on me A LOT!) And if there’s a new version, I’m talking the old one.
Worst eye product you’ve ever tried? A Clinique Holiday palette I purchased on sale due to it being the only thing at the time I saw as a somewhat winter wonderland-themed eye palette that I so longed for and have never found. It is so hard and I’ve used it once.
Worst cheek product you’ve ever tried? I’m not a big cheek makeup person, so thank God I’ve had reviewers (like yourself, others here and a few influencers on YT) provide good advice and therefore of the products I’ve purchased, I’ve been pleased.
Mistake, it wasn’t a Clinque palette, it was Clarins.
