Stila Jewel Eyeshadow Palette for Spring 2010 Review, Photos, Swatches
Beautiful, Glittering Eyes with Stila’s Jewel Eyeshadow Palette
Stila Jewel Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00) is a mysteriously glittering, shimmering palette. When I saw the promotional images for the palette, I was definitely curious — who doesn’t love some glitter? (OK, I know a few of you don’t, but shh!)
I find myself at a loss as to how exactly to describe the texture and feel of these eyeshadows. They feel almost wet, but not really creamy and certainly not powdery. They apply fairly sheerly when used, though they can be layered for a slightly more intense look.
Since it has a bit of a creamy feel (but it’s sooo not a cream shadow!), I patted the Golden Topaz shade all over my lid, just to see what kind of fall out we were looking for. I wasn’t even concerned about staying power, because it wasn’t over a base, so I expected it to crease. Well, it didn’t. It didn’t crease after just having patted it on my lid for over an hour. There was also very, very minimal fall out (like I saw three or four sparkles). Typically, I find myself having to strategically apply foundation over glittery bits and doing all sorts of tricks to make sure my undereye area isn’t more sparkly than my eyelid.
- Golden Topaz is a soft peachy-brown with champagne shimmer/glitter.
- Amethyst is a medium dark purple with red undertones and soft golden glitter.
- Black Diamond is black with silver glitter.
- Rose Quartz is a light-medium rosy pink with silver glitter.
I was pleasantly surprised at Stila’s newest palette for the spring season. I just wasn’t expecting it to knock my socks off, and I admit I was totally expecting the glitter to fall everywhere. But you know what’s REALLY awesome about this? It looked like my lids were wet. The color really does look like shimmering water. Gorgeous!
Now, I just hope they’ll release another one of these, but with vibrant jewel-tones… say a deep blue, mermaid teal…

oooooooh they’re SOOOOOOO BEAUTIFULLLLLLLL!!! stila has such amazing and high quality products…sometimes i feel that they’re not as appreciated as they could be!!
thanks for bringing this to my attention!! i’ve always wanted my eyes to look dewy!! =)
Awesome review, I was just wondering the same, if they will come out with prettier colors.. like the blues and greens =)
Very pretty, I’ll definitely get this!
These look so interesting! I can’t wait to try them out. Thanks for the review!
I’m in love with Rose Quarts. ;A; I might just have to get this, despite my fondness for matte shadows.
So, so, SO PRETTY! I think I might need to look into getting this 🙂
oooh, pretty!!!
Thank you SO much, I was waiting for a review on this. I’ll pick it up after payday 🙂 I’m surprised it wasn’t a glittery mess.
Black Diamond, Pink Quartz and Amethyst are the best colours in the palette! I like golden topaz as well but the pink, purple and black together are gorgeous.
aaaaah, this is a gorgeous palette. I wonder when the Canadian Sephoras will get this
I loveee glitterrr haha. Thank you for the swatches, I’m definitely getting this on my next trip to sephora 🙂
Golden Topaz, Amethyst both are pretty colors!
I have not been wowed by Stila in a LONG time – I may have to check this palette out.
wow i love the black one! but like you i hope they will come up with other colors, deeper the better. lighter tones with glitters will probably make my eyes look like ive cried for 3 days. lol
Stila eyeshadows are superb quality. I’ve never found a better brand for eyes, inc MAC.
damnnn black diamond!
Wow, that’s some good looking stuff right there. I love how pigmented it is and I like all of the colors.
Wow! I was expecting these to be a gritty, chunky mess, but they look fab! And OMG, a blue/green shades would be amaaaaazing!
Gorgeous! I really do love a bit of sparkle. 😀
Okay, I am totally drooling. All of those colours, and the glitters, look amazing. Another one for my lust list. Dammit! 😛
The black is really GORGEOUS!
I’ve been on a makeup, shoe, book, and clothes shopping hiatus for a long time, and had intended to continue in that vein… But this might be the one to break this longest streak of prevailing willpower. MUST HAVE.
Christine, do you think these might be similar dupes (in texture) to Pixiewoo’s newest tutorial. She uses RMK’s metallic gold eyeshadow. What would be a good dupe for that lol ?
Sorry, I have no idea what you’re talking about, lol! I don’t know anything about RMK’s eyeshadow, so without having tested it or played with it, it’s really hard to say what is a dupe for it!
Oooooh I want this! 😉
These shadows are really nice! I haven’t worn Stila in ages but this palette may change my mind:)
These are really pretty!
wow! you know what it reminds me of? MAC pigments used with some eye primer!
WANT.
Those black and purple shades look pretty amazing, but especially the black. Those look like pressed versions of those MAC pigment things… oh I forgot what it’s called but the container was very flat and you had to “crush” the chucks to use them?
If Stila made that black shadow as a single I’d buy it in a heartbeat! That black would look sooo hot.
Solar Bits? Except, you know, without the fuss and mess that was Solar Bits, LOL!
I’m so excited I ordered this already. I think it’s going to sell out quickly.
Hmmm, I like this 🙂
i expected this to look really gritty cuz the glitter looks chunky to me in the palette but it swatched amazingly!
have to check this out
Christine I want to see how this looks on you after reading your awesome description! You must show us or do a look with it asap!!!! 😀
I will try when I feel better!
oooh, rose quartz and black diamond are great!
Very pretty! But pretty expensive for the small amount of eyeshadow.
I LOVE this palette! But would you say this is age appropriate for someone over 40???
If you have the confidence to rock it, don’t let age stop you!
The black diamond shade is lovely. Is it as pigmented as it looks in the swatch?
it has a decent amount of pigmentation for being a glitter based product. i hate products that are all glitter and no pigmentation and i love these colors!
I especially love the look of Rose Quartz. Any ideas for a possible dupe?
Nothing really comes to mind 🙁
you got me at “glittery eyeshadow that looks wet”!!! wonder if it’s already available here in Singapore…
any idea how close this is to the Sonia Kashuk Showstopper Eyeshadow Quad, in terms of texture and easy of use
Kind of similar, but smoother and a little sheerer (though still buildable). Feels a little wetter.
GOSH!! These are gorgeous! And so different from anything I have…even my most glittery UD shadows don’t look this awesome. Sorry wallet 🙁 I need this. Haha…I’m supposed to be saving my money for Spring Break in Vegas…but what’s a Vegas trip without awesome glittery eyeshadows to wear out? Nothin. Thanks for the swatches, I’d love to see some looks with these!
omg. i talked myself out of it after the original collection announcement; but you may have talked me back into it lol.
BEAUTIFUL! what size is it? it looks kinda small.
They’re maybe nickle sized or so? According to Sephora, the palette has 0.11 oz. of product.
okay. i’m sold. sign me up. great review!
omg!!! GORGEOUS!! i need this !!! i cannot wait to buy !
That is so pretty! I think I’ll have to pick this up.
I haven’t seen anything good come from stila in a while, and totally ignored the email in my inbox, but woah! this looks beautiful. WANT
This palette looks amazing and id love if there was no fallout. I cant wait to see this on you!
could you please create a look with this palette?! pretty please?!?!
I’ll try!
I have to have this! Thanks so much for the info =)
so beautiful!
what’s the staying power of these after a few hours? do they crease at all?
They stay on just fine & don’t crease on me!
Hello! I’ve been a reader of your blog for some time but I’ve never actually commented! I just wanted to say it’s so funny how I’ve gotten some of the items that you’ve recently reviewed and I wish I’d seen them before I bought them! Boooo.. Anyways, I just bought the Stila Jewel Eyeshadow Palette and UD Alice Book of Shadows last Friday but I really wish I’d seen a review first. Did you by any chance purchase a TheBalm Shady Lady Vol.2 palette?? I think you’d love it! It’s amazing.
Hey Kali,
I haven’t gotten theBalm Shady Lady palette, but I’ll definitely check it out 🙂
How are you liking the Stila and UD palettes?
Thank you so much!
I honestly think that the Alice UD Palette is a lot better than the previous 2 Book of Shadows (since I tend to gravitate towards neutrals.) I’ve owned the previous 2 and I can’t remember ever even wearing them out! ..I ended up passing both of them on but I really like this one. I just dislike the heavy, bulky packaging. It’s not one of those things that you’d want to take on a trip -maybe if they started putting them in normal palettes? That would be awesome.
The Stila Palette is amazing. The only thing I’d have to say I “don’t like” is that it’s so small.. but then again, these aren’t your basic shadows. I’ve been wearing it nonstop and I love the dewy glittery “My eyes are wet” look. I even had guy friends comment -which is pretty cool if guys can appreciate your eye makeup. I really hope they make a few more in different colors. Well thanks again. I keep finding myself on your blog! =)
So glad you’re enjoying the AiW palette, Kali! 🙂 Whatever works for ya is good for me, haha! But I do agree that I’d love slimmer palettes… just so bulky.
Happy you’re finding yourself here on the blog!!
Thanks for the swatches and review. Sephora.com also has excellent reviews for this. Just wondering what kind of brush(es) you would suggest when applying these?
I used my MAC 239!
Wow, those are gorgeous!
I finally saw these in Sephora & oh my these are pretty wee shadows! I tried them and couldn’t get them to show on my skin which is light but maybe that’s just Sephora’s prob that it’s had them sitting out for a while. I don’t know, maybe it’s a visual but such small looking shadows for $32 seems too much.
They do look and are pretty small. I can’t imagine every going through one myself (you don’t need much), but it’s definitely something that you notice right away.
Where can i get this?? is it a limited edition :(??
Yes, it was LE!
