Sneak Peek: Hello Kitty Pop-Up Party Eyeshadow Palette Photos & Swatches

Hello Kitty Pop-Up Party Eyeshadow Palette
Hello Kitty Pop-Up Party Eyeshadow Palette

Hello Kitty Pop-Up Party Eyeshadow Palette ($52.00 for 0.70 oz.) includes twenty eyeshadows that range from beige to gold to blue to coral. I’ve tested about half of the palette, and obviously swatched through all the shades, and it’s a huge disappointment thus far as the shades are ridiculously powdery and crumbly and much of what I’ve tested thus far fades easily and doesn’t build up well. The formula for the majority of the eyeshadows is so powdery that some shades feel chalky and just… cheap. If it’s something on your list, I would bring out the big guns and use a slightly tacky, cream eyeshadow/base (like NYX Milk) and make sure to do eyes first, face makeup last.

Please let me know if you’re interested in a full, in-depth review, and I’ll put it on the list, but I’m thinking a quick review for this one will be in order! As much as I’d love to review every single holiday set/palette in full, based on many past holiday seasons, I know that’s not a possibility, so this year I’m working on getting out sneak peek swatches first, then writing up a full review or a quick/condensed review based on what readers are interested in seeing. 🙂

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Copy of UD. Book of Shadow set up. Very teeny bopper looking and cheaply done…..the names, the color. Just curious, where is it made? I rather see the rest of you Gucci products review, particularly the shadows and that green set.

I’d like to see dupes, in general. I think an actual “review”, whether in depth or a gloss over, is pointless. For one, we can see in the swatches how it will perform, and the “quality”, and you also mentioned here that they’re in need of a sticky/tacky base, which is enough. However, there are some interesting shades, and it’d be fun to see what some “dupes” could be!

Maggie Avatar

For me, pass on the in-depth review. I would like to see a dupe for Three Apples and Kitty-chan.. Those caught my eye.

It’s a shame–I actually like the color selection in the palette–just not the quality. I would have totally gifted this if the quality was there.

cayleighs Avatar

Love that Kitty Mimmy shade…any dupes out there anyone can think of?

Totally not impressed with this palette at all. For $52 it needs to be good quality!

I like your idea of the sneak peeks and quick reviews, I can’t imagine trying to get through all the holiday stuff that is out there! Thank you for all your hard work!

Christine Avatar

Here’s a good place to start: http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery?type=12674&color=Gold,Yellow&finish=Frost,Metallic&undertone=Warm

Thanks, Cayleighs! I’d love to review ALL THE THINGS! but year after year (and this is true for all seasons, but it’s particularly worse for holiday), I wind up with tons of photos and swatches of palettes I wanted to review but didn’t have time. I’d rather the photos not sit around, at the very least!

skedasticity Avatar

Does it mean I have been a makeup junkie too long and have WAY too many eyeshadows when all I have to do is see your shots of the shadows in the pan to know the swatches are going to be BAD?

I think your idea to do gloss over swatches to cover more products for the holiday deluge is excellent. If a product is this cheap and powdery all we need is a swatch. Your in depth opinion is better spent on products that we should want to buy so we can guage the best things to splurge on!

Christine Avatar

Thank you! 🙂 If only there were more hours in a day! I really don’t want to have another year where all these photos/swatches are unposted, because I didn’t have enough time to write the full review (nor do I want to go, ahh! it’s November 25th, I still haven’t reviewed this, let’s put up photos!). This way, I can also gauge how readers are reacting to a palette, whether it seems interesting to them, and so forth, which will help me prioritize better.

Lulle Avatar

I’m not surprised by the very poor performance of many shadows in this palette. I’ve had horrible experience with Hello Kitty products in the past. I think they’re all about the packaging, and don’t put much effort in the actual quality of the products. Cute is not enough.

Sarah Avatar

Yuck! I cant say I’m surprised though, this is exactly what I expected for this palette. Don’t waste your time on a full review, so many other pretties that are more worthy.

Veronica Avatar

Considering how many holiday kits you’re dealing with, I don’t think any of us would mind short reviews for the time being. Longer reviews for the ones you’re really impressed with maybe, but I think we could handle matching dupes ourselves. 🙂 As for this palette…I was out of the Hello Kitty phase by my late teens, so this is a pass. Swatches aren’t too impressive either.

Kristy Avatar

I’m so disappointed by the quality of these shadows, especially because I have the impulse to pick up all things Hello Kitty. Thank you for the quick review, Christine. With your swatches and description, I’ve decided to not get this after all.

Julie Avatar

I’ll add my vote to quantity of reviews over quality, especially for limited releases! Swatches, overall impressions, & maybe a list of best & worst performers with an overall grade is probably sufficient for most holiday palettes! & maybe mention wear time like you do with nail colors–based off typical wear time for the brand/formula. Just my 2 cents worth!!

Christine Avatar

Thanks, Julie! 🙂 I’m hoping that even for “quick reviews” that I’ll still test portions of the palette, but I might not test every single shade for wear (like this one – I’ve worn and fully tested about half). I just have to figure out what components will go/stay for quick reviews!

xamyx Avatar

How sad is it when the purples are actually among the *better* swatches, LOL! For a collector, this would make a nice gift/purchase, since it would likely never even be used, but for those of us looking to *wear* products, this is an easy pass,

Tabitha Avatar

auw I’m a huge HK fan, and I like the pop up part of the palette, but the eyeshadows themselves are super disappointing, I think most would be fine with a very short, simple review, I know I would. I agree with the other comments that I’d rather see in depth reviews on the good (or at least more hyped) products, I think most can tell from the packaging/swatches if they’re going to get this palette or not.

Rachel R. Avatar

The packaging is uber-cute, so what a shame about the quality of the shadows. About what I expected from something like this, though.

A quickie review, and maybe some dupes for the more interesting shades like Three Apples and The Original?

Karen Avatar

Hi Christine, I think quick reviews would be wonderful!! And as you mentioned, you could do more in depth reviews of the more popular sets. Thank you so much for all that you put into your work, it is very well appreciated!!

Barbara Avatar

I also vote for more quick reviews since the amount of collections and palettes that are coming out this time of year, I need to know which ones aren’t worth the money. And, since LE items sell out fast, it’s good to know sooner rather than later what to jump on and buy early.

Georgia Avatar

Wow, this is a definite skip for me. If I were to pay that much for an eyeshadow palette, I would expect the quality to match the expensive price tag. Also, the Dear Daniel swatch reminds me of an eyeshadow that was in a L’Oreal Project Runway eyeshadow palette. The blue project runway eyeshadow was hands down the worst eyeshadow I’ve dealt with. I would be interested in seeing potential dupes for the anniversary eyeshadow.

Mariella Avatar

A few of these look extremely unevenly pigmented, patchy, poorly formulated. Kitty Chan looks a very interesting and complex blue, though, and there are a few shades that I really do like (in terms of their colour and in some cases, texture/pigmentation looks okay too). But I will certainly pass and stick with my Hello Kitty t-shirt and purse (my students get such a kick out of it when I wear either of these).

Quinctia Avatar

Hey, Sephora, if you want to make crappy makeup for kids, then it can’t be priced that way.

If the product were nice, that plus the packaging would make it a rather nice gift, even at its pricepoint.

It’s why I never really got any of the HK stuff at Sephora to begin with. Someone did give me one of the polishes last year in a gift exchange, so I got one cute thing (polish bottle shaped like HK), and it was okay formula, I guess.

Jenn Avatar

What a shame. I always thought this was going to be a miss. Hot cocoa looks like a hot mess. (I had to put that in). I think you should’t waste your time with this palette and quick review to average the entire palette. (in the olden days) might be fine.

Stephanie Avatar

Thoroughly disappointed with the entire HK line. I bought the other set (the diary one) and it’s just as cheap and poorly made as this one. As a HK aficionado I’m actually quite upset that they couldn’t crank out high quality stuff, especially for the 40th anniversary. It’s an anniversary and Sephora so I wasn’t expecting dollar-store quality stuff 🙁

Trina Avatar

Like I’ve told you before your opinion is always spot on and you’ve never steered me wrong. With so much out this season you have a lot on your plate! Why waste time on things that don’t meet the standards. Save your hard work for the good stuff. It seems like your job would be fun. Trying on and testing all this gorgeous mskeup and you get to keep it and admire it. I’m sure the amount of products is overwhelming.
Do you think you could do a full review of the x15 mac brooke sheilds palette by the time the store releases it? I’m on the fence your review will be my deciding factor. Thanks

BOTTÂNICA BOTTANIQUE Avatar

THREE APPLES is ultra gorgeous!
I don’t believe that I feel madly in love with only one shadow in a large palette again, being that I can’t do anything about it, because the other shades are a poor joke.
I can only sit and cry.

artemis Avatar

Some shades look crappy swatched, some look good :O lol, 52$. I feel sorry for the parents that will buy this for their kids. Look, a cheap knock-off(tho smaller) :))

[link redacted]

I still think it;s too expensive…it might be bad, too…

Jennie Avatar

Sometimes people don’t get that some palettes are not meant for the same audience. It’s obvious this palette is meant for Hello Kitty fans. Anyway, I’m not impressed with the swatches so it’s a pass for me.
