Sneak Peek: Guerlain Palette 5 Couleurs Photos & Swatches
Guerlain Palette 5 Couleurs
Just in time for fall, Guerlain Palette 5 Couleurs ($69.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a new, permanent eyeshadow palette that features five powder eyeshadows. There are six palettes available, and here are swatches of them:
Oh goodness, why bother re-formulating Guerlain?? These look as bad, maybe worse, than their old formula. I see a ton of C, D, F’s here, and for $69, the packaging doesn’t look as nice as their gold case with the geometric layout. I can seriously buy DS or Budget shadows that look 10x better than this (Milani Bella, Colour Pop, City Colors, WNW palettes, etc). No need to review -the pictures are worth a thousand words.
Seriously.
Agree
The quads look nice, The design is elegant but the product swatches falls a bit short for me with that price. I mean let’s be honest, there are some brands out there way cheaper with better quality. I will say that they look so soft and blendable but for that price and those swatches, will def pass.
I was going to pick up the #5 (with the green), but the swatch of the green color isn’t as vibrant as i hoped. Have you had a chance to see how it performs on the eye?
Thank you so much for all your swatches/hard work. You really help me make good purchasing decisions 🙂
Hmmm, a little disappointed in these swatches. Less to want! Ha!
Hmmm. These don’t appear to be swatching as well as I hoped. I really wanted the green one :-/
Will await your reviews!
Strange that the 5th shadow in all, except maybe Tonka, swatches so weakly – or is it just the way it photographed?
Nope, it doesn’t surprise me at all the 5th shadow is the weakest. First it’s a matte shade, AND it shares the same base as a shimmer shade, and we’ve all seen what can happen when 2 shadows share the same pan and base — I still remember the Hourglass Modernist shadow palette disaster, when they had like 5 shadows sharing the same base, with no separation
Fortunately for me, I skipped all of those palettes – but I recall the horrific reviews…
Ugh. I have one of those…
Just look at it. Consider it art/sculpture instead of eyeshadow. Just form, no function.
LOL exactly how I got suckered in and so be it 😀
Agree Lea, the #5 shadows in all but Tonka look like under-performers.
These seem very muted in tone?
I have been interested in the gold one, but am not quite motivated based on first swatches, and at this cost, these will need to blow my hair back. So I’ll try to check them out next time I’m near a counter, in addition to reviews.
The Rose Barbare and Bois des Indes look so beautiful, But I’ll wait to see reviews.
So, really, Guerlain can’t make a matte to save their French rears. Why re-formulate/re-package? These look identical to the quads, colour groups n all =/. Bleh… Too many pale shimmery shades that look indistinguishable on the skin.
Whoa…these look pitiful. Especially @ $69. Not impressed, but will reserve any possible decision until after each is reviewed. The only semi decent looking one is colors that I hardly wear very often, and when I do, it’s UD Smoky or my new MUFE Artist 4.
I like #4 in almost all the palettes….maybe what I need is a palette of #4’s – they could call it “Quatre Heures”. Most of these do look really disappointing – #4 in the blue palette and almost all the #5’s. Oh dear…I guess the silver lining is that I’m not craving these now.
Rose Barbare was my favorite in the press photos and that is holding true!
Rose Barbare was the one that are my colors too, but I am underwhelmed by the swatches.
Dangit. I was hoping the blues would be nice (STILL looking for a nice blue palette!) — but this doesn’t exactly fill me with hope and joy.
Random suggestion, but have you ever looked at the Gucci quad Ocean Rhapsody? The shades are fairly different from what Guerlain was going for here, but the theme as far as color depth seems really similar (? I know what I’m trying to say here, but I don’t know how to say it). The bright blue and the gray blue in the quad are so luminous and look gorgeous separate or layered over each other, and the white-gray shade and matte black are also really impressive. Across all of my palettes, they are the best blues I have by far.
I hadn’t really considered the Gucci palette you mentioned, but snooping for more details online is sorta tempting me to go find and search the shades in person! Thanks for the recommendation!
An easy pass. I hate it when Guerlain does this to itself. Why come up with such quality products?
The colors are mostly very dupe-able, though it can be hard to find a good pale grey as in #2 and #3 in L’Heure de Nuit. (I have pale cooltoned greys in Nars singles, but I searched around a lot before I found them).
Oh Oh – in each palette there is a least one or two very patchy shades. Guerlain, you are breaking my heart!
I own three Guerlain 6 pan palettes (rue des Francs-Bourgeois, Boulevard du Montparnasse, Champs-Elysées) and one of the 4 pan palettes (Les Violines) and what strikes me most about the swatches above is how similar they seem to what I already have. I don’t have a dupe for every shade just from the palettes I own, but looking through I saw enough that was similar that I don’t have the desire to get any.
On a totally different note, some of those swatches look really bad. None of the palettes I own from Guerlain swatch that poorly, and they all make gorgeous (if subtle) eye looks. Rue des Francs-Bourgeois is one of my favorite natural/neutral eye palettes, period. I’ve certainly come across shadows that swatch badly but look great on-I hope that’s the case here.
I had high hopes for Rose Barbare, but am feeling very underwhelmed. I just hope they all perform better on the lids.
Hope they wear better than they swatch!!!
I ordered Coq d’Or, it’s arriving tomorrow! I’m hoping it will work well on the eye, despite swatching a bit weakly. I’m not expecting full pigment eyeshadows a la Urban Decay, after all this is Guerlain, and there is a market for softer, more subtle shadows. Let’s not forget that not everyone wants to wear intense eye looks!
Quelle horreur! Pas d’escuse. Vraiment. Think I only see about 5 acceptable swatches, forget good. Y’all already said it all. Kind of shameful, actually. Maybe they should stick to lipstick.
I really like Rose Barbare and think I would get lots of use from #1-3, but can’t justify the $69 price. It looks like #4 might have glitter fall-out, and #5 is a dud. ?
The quads themselves are elegantly designed, but a lot of these swatches are falling short for me.
The swatches don’t wow me 🙁
On counter the SA assured me,”They do not come out as deep as they look in the pan!” Sniggers, yes way to sell it to me.
The blue and purple shades look dry, as is often the case. Easy pass.
I wish I could get excited about Guerlain eye shadows but I just can’t. Not only does the formula seem underwhelming (given the price point) but the colour combinations are fairly boring. I know they want to make wearable palettes but there must be some way they can work in one slightly unexpected shade.
The Rose Barbara is possibly pretty enough to spend $69. But they’re permanent so no rush. Leaves money available for other seasonal LE releases. Does anyone have an opinion on preference for the meteorites pearls or pressed version in so far as which one gives you the better blur and isn’t as sparkley?
I really love the look of 3/4 shades in L’Heure de Nuit. Here’s hoping they look better on the eyes than they swatch.
I’ve bought Bois des Indes. Big Mistake ! Mostly doesn’t shows up on my skin. Just glitters. It’s pretty weak and the pigmentation is so bad. I post a review on sephora and they told me it wasn’t helpful ?! Well I prefer tell the truth than lie about it. It’s not because it’s a big brand that we should say it’s a good product.
The good part of it (at least for mine), it’s the soft texture.
