Estee Lauder Hi-Lustre Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.10 oz.) recently extended their range with many new shades! Estee Lauder’s website lists 19 as “new!” but Selfridges showed 23 (which is where I purchased 21 of the 23–two were out of stock, and I’ve since purchased those but am still waiting to receive the last two!).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Yes, Tiger Eye, Hot Kiss, and Candy were often in GWP and PWP from 2006~2009. I had a bunch of them, too! One of my girlfriends was obsessed with Tiger’s Eye, so she and I would often trade every time she used another tube up! lol

Estee Lauder Companies, like all cosmetic companies, are permitted by law to increase their price rates by up to $2.50 per unit item SKU, once every six months (which means the can increase the price of any beauty item by up to $5 USD per fiscal year, per U.S. law. So, the answer to your primary question is: No. These lipsticks have not been this expensive in the past. Consumer demand and purchase power and emails to companies can change this in a more favorable position for the consumer, if consumers as a whole are willing to put forth the effort. I hope this helps!

Callie, thank you for such an excellent response!
In many cases, this is why I prefer this beauty blog to so many others. The readership is very well informed and you can have both fun and engaging discussions with them!

I was wondering if I could pick your brain on something since you seem to know a bit about the market? I have worked for some fashion brands and am aware of how they perceive their target market/buyer to be. But I cannot figure out what beauty brands want. I feel like they want you to buy as much as possible but never use it. Because so many brands release product after new release after new formulation, how are you supposed to keep up and use all of what you buy? And the truth is, you really can’t. So it boggles my mind when some companies expect you to drop so much money on many items, but then repurchase them in a quick time-frame. Do they want you to be a hoarder? Do they think you wear that much makeup on a daily basis?
A good example is Sephora with their VIB Rouge program. You have to spend A LOT there to even qualify ($1000), and every year. People who review makeup or make massive amounts of money can easily attain this goal- as it is either a business expense or something they don’t really need to worry about. Especially because they may not wear everything they buy (reviewers) or just buy EVERYTHING at Sephora (makeup, skincare, gifts, hair ties, nail clippers, brushes, etc…).
It sounds like they want your orders to be around $50-100 on average (which is the amount of money you need to spend to get free shipping). So if you purchase around $1000 worth of stuff over a year at $50 an order, Sephora wants you to make around 20 orders in a year, which is almost two orders a month. Who realistically does this? I just don’t understand what lifestyle they think they are attracting. Even rich people don’t make orders like that.

Some of these are old standby colors like Crystal Baby, Tiger Eye, Melon — I’m wondering if this is a new formula? It’s a new case. So many great colors in this collection! I’ll be checking out Pretty Lucky and Blush Tease.

My wallet saw this and now it wants to run away from home!!! ??????

Naked Truth and Tigers Eye look like nudes I may actually be able to wear without looking like a dead woman or so bland looking, that I almost might as well be!
And then there’s: Lies & Kisses, Sweet Sinner, Cali Coral, Intense Emotion….
See? I’m in some deep, deep trouble!

Same here!! I’ve been pretty good about resisting all the new lippies that brands have been launching left and right (seems like 10 a day), but resistance might be futile with these!

1. I don’t like The taste and smell of EL lipsticks. No clue if that applies now.
2. Amount used to be larger…even for the GIft with purchases ones.
So no buy. No buy MAC and no buy Tom Ford either.
Too many lipsticks and boycotting this company until whenever.
