I’ve seen quite a few reviews on these eyeshadows and Make up geeks metallic eyeshadows. They both seem very similar in texture and color pay off. How would you compare the two?

Christine Avatar

Texture, no, not at all. Makeup Geek’s eyeshadows feel mostly like a powder eyeshadow – maybe a really buttery and denser/silkier one, but it feels pretty much like an ultra metallic eyeshadow does. These are a cream product, and they’ll dry out if you don’t keep the lid on them. I’d actually have to go through one by one to compare color/payoff/wear/texture, but I’m sure some have a similarly metallic finish, as these have a lot of shimmer/sparkle.

Gillian Avatar

They look absolutely awesome! Such beautiful colours and pigmented to boot. I’m looking forward to your review since I’m keen to see what the wear time is like. Even with a primer some eyeshadows crease on me due to my oily eyelids so I’m always on the lookout for shadows that will last, or a really good primer if you happen to have any suggestions. I’m using the Urban Decay primer that I got with the Naked palette but I still get creasing. Saying that, if I use a MAC Paint Pot over the top of the primer that seems to help. I love cream eyeshadows.

You said that these feel like the Chanel Illusion D’Ombres and I love those. I love the MAC Paint Pots and the Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Colors better though! The latter is really creamy and has a lot of slip but it sets so well and doesn’t budge. Not cheap by any means but they really are excellent.

I digress. Can you tell I’m bored and just spouting anything that comes to mind? 😀

Christine Avatar

Yeah, these are definitely not like Paint Pots/Shimmering Cream Eye Colors – Paint Pots are thicker and denser, but still creamier, and them the Shiseido formula is a lot more emollient for sure. But if you like Chanel, you’d probably like these (as far as texture goes!). I wore 9 different shades yesterday, and they were still going strong after ten hours (no fading or creasing, at least).

Hey, Gillian, I have very oily lids (one is hooded, too) and after trying many many primers, finally found stuff that works. Here are my suggestions:
1. Bareminerals 5- in-1 BB Advanced Cream Eyeshadow w/SPF 15 – Linen is my skintone, so it doubles as a concealer too. Linen was wiped out during the Sephora sale, but after 3 weeks, it’s back in stock.
2. Wet N Wild Fergie Take On the Day Eye primer -$5
3. Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks -Nordstroms has a set
5. Or try putting on a thin layer of Paula’s Choice Resist Superlight Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 UNDER your eye primer, so you are “double-priming”. The stuff soaks up oil like crazy and sticks to the lids like glue, and really boosts the power of your eyeprimer. The product is meant to be a facial moisturizer, but I don’t like it on my face, but it’s perfect for my lids. It’s so tenancious that some reviewers were saying they had to scrub this off their face at night, but I never had issues removing it from my lids with a facial cleanser or eye makeup remover. You can buy a sample size from their website for $1. With “double-priming” my shadow and liner can last from 12 -15 hours. I’ve had days when I was running around, sweating like crazy, and my shadow never budged or creased. If they ever discontinue this, I’m going to stockpile a warehouse full of it.

Thanks for your replies!

Katherine, I really like Paula’s Choice skincare, although I don’t have that particular item. I’ll definitely try out that product. It sounds like something I’d get along with pretty well! I’m not one for touching up my makeup during the day so anything that helps it to last is something I’d be interested in!

Thanks again. 🙂

Gillian:

I have oily eyelids and I love NYX HD Base, which I use as a primer, then followed with one of their potted bases. As long as I apply these properly (i.e., very thin layer), I get no creasing and colors stay very true for about 10-11 hours. (So far, just Sleek and Fyrinnae, thanks to Christine’s reviews.)

Christine:

I was looking for a new favorite brand. Full sizes, not loose powder, unique colors, quality close to Fyrinnae, and decent price point. (Although Fyrinnae is well worth the hassle of loose powder!) MUSA? Total bonus! You may have given it to me! Thank you!

I SEE CHARTREUSE O_o

I really, really can’t wait to hear how these perform. I’m really hoping that the glitter ones hold on to their glitter when you wear them, because the colours are so gorgeous!

So Quiche is really interesting looking, and I love the name, LOL!

(I haven’t been bothering, generally, to list the ones I want because, well, you know. It’s basically all of them).

I’ve been holding off on these for a bit but I had to try Sunnies so it’s on its way. Excited to test it out! MAC Gunner (from the Nasty Gal collection) arrived today and it looks really cool with the current bronzed-orange eye I’m wearing so hoping to do something very intense when Sunnies gets here to pair.

Fran Avatar

Thanks for posting all of these Colour Pop eyeshadow and pressed pigment sneak peeks, Christine, there are a lot of colors I’m eager to try. I really want to do a look with Sugar, Pop Rocks, and Rex from this group. I do love some bright colors and sparkle on my lids!

Nicole Avatar

Do you think these could be put into a z palette? I was looking at them online and noticed directions said to close the lids. I prefer not to have loose shadows. They tend to get lost in my drawers and not used much. Thanks.:)

Nicole Avatar

Oh..Thanks for the heads up.I ordered a gift set earlier this week when they were on sale. for $24. I’ll have to actually get to putting all my other shadows in z palettes to make some room to somehow organize my singles and creams.I’m getting to large of a collection..need so be organizing for sure! Just an aside,I was wondering when you do your reviewing,do u consider In price or just quality? For example, would colour pop be held to the same standards as makeup forever?

Christine Avatar

Only quality. So an A on ColourPop is the same as an A on MUFE or Tom Ford. Good, period 🙂 Each product is held to the brand’s claims about the formula, and then I have about 50 specific characteristics I look for (some don’t apply to all products) with ranges of possible points (things like soft, finely-milled, feathering, etc. that are common to makeup) so I can be more consistent with scores.

Even when I did price (this was earlier on when I started using a rating system), I only rated it relative to similar brands (e.g. I wouldn’t compare price of Chanel to Wet ‘n’ Wild but Chanel to Dior etc. for price/quantity), but I removed price a few years ago, because I don’t really like that price can inflate or deflate ratings of bad/good products. Instead, if I feel like if a brand has out-priced a product or they’ve skimped on quantity, I’ll note it in the review (with words).

Nicole Avatar

Ok.Great! Love your blog! I hope you never stop! I did mention you when I made the Colour Pop order. They have a space at checkout asking where you heard of them.I got a couple of the sets with lippies and liners for gifts love your opinion on those if you can get around to it. I saw mixed reviews about needing the Kiplinger or not, especially deeper shades. Have a great weekend!

Kayla Avatar

ive never tried these but i hear a lot of rave about them! They look super pigmented and beautiful, definitely going to buy a few to try them out when I get the chance! 🙂
