Sneak Peek: ColourPop Creme Gel Liners Photos & Swatches

ColourPop Creme Gel Liner
ColourPop Creme Gel Liner

ColourPop Creme Gel Liner ($5.00 for 0.01 oz.) just launched yesterday in 24 shades (all permanent). These coordinate with the cream gel eyeliners by the same name. Full reviews to come!

After going through several of the shades on the brand’s website, I did discover that Boots, Piggy Bank, and Puppy are “not recommended for the eye area.”

Prance, Best O, Piggy Bank, and Puppy wil be mine. (Puppy looks amazingly close to Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel #81 that I’ve been lustng after.)

Bee Sting, Fast Lane, and Punch are all great, but I have near-exact dupes. And I can’t stop looking at DTLA, but I have Marc Jacobs Midnight, so… 🙁

Dirty Talk seems like a really interesting white gold, but I can’t decide if I need it or not. I don’t seem to have a color like Overboard (which surprises me), but again, can’t decide.

Zulu is … interesting. I think I’m quickly developing a love/hate relationship with it, as in I think it’s amazing, but I’m a little repelled by it. Weird. (Actually, now that I think about it, Zulu looks a bit like the Inglot AMC gel linr #88, which I’ve never liked.)

Like any brand, quality varies within lines, but generally speaking the product is comparable to mid-high end brands at low risk initial investment. I do think it’s worth giving the the product a shot if you’re curious, but maybe only buy one or two of a product type until you’ve tried it.

I’m narrowing down my picks for which pots/sticks I’ll be picking up. Thanks for the very helpful swatches, Christine. You helped me eliminate and confirm a few choices. This is super OT but have you by chance picked up Lisa Eldridge’s new book, “Facepaint: The Story of Makeup” yet? It’s so beautiful and informative. Lovely art choices and great info. Full of delicious look inspiration.

Looking really good overall! I’ll definitely grab a couple of the dark shades, a good non-black liner for $5 is not that easy to come by.
I’m curious about the brighter colors, do they not use the neon pigments that usually make eyeshadows “not eye safe” – like the ones ColourPop calls pressed pigments?

Nancy T Avatar

Not as sure about these as their gel pot liners. A few look quite patchy and uneven in coverage. Then again, some look quite good for pencil type liners, so it’s hard to say whether or not I’ll buy any. Instead, I’ll wait to read of your experiences with these when you review them.

Trina Avatar

I don’t get into pots but i love eyeliner! Especially colored ones! I ordered more than i want to admit too! Lol
I hope they are long lasting. I have watery allergy eyes (mostly in spring) and wear contacts. I need something tough! Lol

CJ Avatar

Seriously, where did this brand come from?!? They are just nailing it with the color vibrancy and payoff. I really hope these perform on the waterline!

Aimee Avatar

I’m with you… Was hoping for a rich, vibrant emerald green! And maybe a lustrous, shiny, blue green teal mermaid color. Also a deep violet purple would be nice. But knowing Colourpop they will nail it with more shades in the future…

Now I am curious as to why Boots, Piggy Bank and Puppy are not for the eye area yet CP is selling them as eye liners? I wish I had know this before I ordered Piggy Bank because I will be using it for tightlining purposes. All in all I did order 10 of them

Nicola Avatar

Yeah same thing with the matte Pressed Pigments from their spring collection. I got Daddy and was super excited until I saw it was not made to use in the eye area… But where the heck am I supposed to use a vibrant purple colour then? 😀
I ended up still using it as an eyeshadow and it worked completely fine, although it did stain my eyelids like nobody’s business. I also got Piggy Bank btw, maybe it would work as a lipliner?

Nancy T Avatar

What I have noticed is that most if not all neon or very red eyeliners carry that warning, but ONLY in the US! No warnings for sales outside of US, so I just use them anyway. Yesterday, for example, I used MUFE Electric Purple in my eye look and had zero issues. Although I didn’t wear it near my waterlines.

Bonnie Avatar

Totally impressed by some of these, but not all. The unique lighter shades seem really nice, I’m surprised that a few of the more basic shades don’t look that great. And the making of eyeliners that are “not for the eye area” is maddening.

Veronica Avatar

“Do not use this cool shade near the eye that we made an eye product from.” 9_9 I’m assuming it’s more or less safe outside of the water line, and that’s just lawyer speak to protect them from lawsuits.

DTLA, Prance, Fast Lane, Timber, and Dirty Talk are just lovely.

Nicola Avatar

I ordered Zulu, Prance, Piggy Bank and Cry Baby, super excited for them to arrive. DTLA looks bomb too. I give them a try and maybe order a few more if I like them… Although I really don’t appreciate that CP again brings out eye products that are not safe to use in the eye area..

kjh Avatar

Just what makes certain pigments not eye safe? IDK. I used the red orange from Fetch, Please as eyeliner (not rec’d) + took it off with grapeseed oil. No probs + I’m allergic to everything. Based on that, I’d be willing to try the non-eye safe ones, anyway. Maybe it’s bad, if it gets in your eye. Lots of options to fill in the holes in our 800 shades of eyeliner collections! Many don’t dupe from UD, MUFE, Stila, Sephora, etc. Nice offering. And of course, the price is right… CP is kicking butt, big time. I’m in.

Rachel R. Avatar

From what I understand, some people are allergic to a red pigment that is not approved in the USA for eye products (though it is in the EU, I believe). It’s usually recommended to be careful, test a small amount on yourself, and avoid the waterline. I have super-sensitive eyes, and I’ve had no problems wearing such colors as shadows and liners.

Tova J Avatar

I think I prefer these before the pots! I’m still getting Puppy and Boots for eyeliners. I really want all the brights but I will never be able to decide which ones other than those two!

Victoria A. Avatar

Oooh, Get Paid looks like a possible dupe for Urban Decay’s Trick. I’ve been wanting that color but not really wanting to buy the whole LE set.
