First Impressions
I was not overly impressed by the texture of some of the shades from swatching and how they’ve applied so far (I have only applied less than half of the shades on the lid, so these are, as they’re labeled, first impressions). There was a dryness present in a lot of the shades that made them more prone to sheering out or harder to build up to full coverage. I hope some of the shades that I haven’t tried yet apply a whole lot better than they seem like they will.
Soul: Yikes.
Yeah, I see none of the green, just a smudge of dark. And what I was liking was the inclusion of green. Lots of the rest of the shades are being done to death these days. The black sucks, which isn’t overly important, and the dark brown pretty much, too. Pony, though. Mmmm.
I have the original palette and like it a lot. I was pretty set to buy this one but after seeing swatches and looking closer at the color selection I think I am going to pass. Just not inspired by the palette. I do like the darker green and of course am still waiting for my cool toned palette with some nice greens in it. Probably be too old to put the shadows on by the time it exists.
Howling and relating to your comment.
I am so glad I saw this, even though it is only a first impression. I was going to pick this up because I haven’t tried anything from Ciate. Seeing and hearing how sheer most of the shades seem to be I doubt I’ll be picking this one up.
I saw a finger swatch (usually appears more pigmented) of Soul and thought it looked pretty poor. I’m sad this doesn’t look very good. I like Chloe and Ciate, but this looks to be an easy pass.
This doesn’t look so good. Those poor greens.
These colours have been done to death. I might feel differently if they were flattering shades for me (I’m guessing how I feel is how some folks were feeling during the proliferation of naked/nude/neutral palettes after UD Naked took the makeup world by storm). SOUL looked really “want-able” til I saw the swatch and a few of these seem to swatch disappointingly.
Definitely NOT Ciate’s usual eyeshadow quality. Yikes. I’ve got a feeling this one will *barely* eek a “C+”.
Jayzus, you’re a freaking hero for going through all these eyeshadow palettes. For me, this story has already been told plenty of times. I can easily dupe. The greens are the interesting inclusion, but swatch dismally.
Another palette to the backburner Christine – it’s not worth your time and effort. The shades are mostly patchy and unworkable. The greens are particularly dismal….
This looks like an easy skip for me.
I actually purchased this before any swatches came out, I got it the day it was released in the UK. A couple of the shades are naff – Jelly Bean is a disappointment and Baby isn’t great eirher, though I don’t think that one is meant to have lots of pigment. It’s a good highlight shade though. Soul is definitely the worst performer. But the rest I’ve actually been really impressed with. I will say that I always use primer – I use UD Eden most of the time. And I always apply shimmers with my fingers, which seems to make a difference. I do this regardless of brand or quality. I’ve had some stunning looks from this palette and I actually prefer it to the original. I personally feel it performs better than it swatches but also probably performs better with fingers than brushes, so anyone who doesn’t mind finger application will probably enjoy it.
