Oh my god! Let me just start off my saying these looked so adorable and beautiful in their packaging themselves, but when swatched on the lips, most of the pastel shades look milky and sheer. The only nice shades are 7, 8, 11, and 12.

Perla Avatar

Yep, that’s how I expected them to apply with the word “watercolor” in the name. Not a fan of this formula.

But still, I love the beautiful packaging.

Nicole Avatar

I totally was not interested in this at all. Although some of the swatches are looking shaky, I suddenly am feeling like I may want this. I think I just want pastel glosses really. Can’t wait for the review!

Katherine T. Avatar

Meh. When they say “watercolor”, I understand it’s going to be translucent, but at least they should apply evenly, not patchy, and not settle into liplines. I think these are meant to be toppers for lipsticks. Such a shame the darker colors aren’t more true to the tube. And it would’ve been great if the pastels had dual chrome sparkles! Can you imagine a sparkly, violet dual chrome gloss on top of a violet lippie? Now THAT would be awesome!

Katherine T. Avatar

Now THAT would be a great, unique Shade-of-the Month color for BITE’s Limited Edition release. BITE, hope you are listening, my birthday is coming up in Sept !

Emma Avatar

Bite Beauty actually releases limited lipsticks from their Lip Lab. They have released four so far and they only make a certain number so once they are sold out they are gone. I can’t rememeber if they release them every month or not.

Carrie Avatar

The performance of the pastels and saminess of darker shades may have been expected, but I expected some detectable color from pastels, so the total lack of it is still a surprise.

Pass.

Sarah Avatar

Wow, the pastels were drawn to your lip lines like magnets! And super disappointed with the opacity (or lack thereof!) of 12. But that’s life, companies watering down products and marketing them that they’re purposefully that way. Even as toppers for other lippies, I’m not sure how these would work out.

Kate Avatar

I’m starting to wonder if anyone can do a pastel gloss that looks nice. They’re either sheer and hard to differentiate from one another or milky and pull into lip lines. I seriously can’t remember the last one I saw that looked really special (in a good way).

Jenn Avatar

I love Bite beauty but the deconstructed rose set had bad reviews and this on,e although pretty, did not look practical whatsoever. 1-5 I’d never wear even before I saw these swatches. How many ppl grab a yellow or pale greenish blue for daily use and the other colors looked like they’d wash me out even with my fair skin. The other colors looked ok but only 7, 10 and 11 looked like they had reasonable pigment. Disappointing bc I’d love a lg bite lipstick or gloss set especially for spring.

Stacy Avatar

Wow. I’m so glad you posted these, Christine. I love everything I’ve got from Bite Beauty and was really looking forward to getting this even though I thought I’d being giving the light pastels away. Even the deepest colors in that set are looking pretty anemic to me. I’m not sure that any of them would show up on my pigmented lips.

Lauren Avatar

This is exactly how I was afraid they’d turn out. I don’t understand why companies put out products that look so bad. It’s sad when only three or so look even halfway good.

Eliz Avatar

Some of these look very, very pretty and some look very, very average. But, they are a no-go for me as Bite Beauty has started using lanolin fairly regularly in their products and I am highly allergic to lanolin. Makes me sad.

Gabrielle Avatar

Aesthetically pleasing when it comes to packaging, but these are way too sheer / inconsistent for me. Just out of curiousity I’d like to see how those pastels perform on top of lipsticks though, maybe they can alter a shade and make some colors more versatile?

Logan Avatar

Wow. How utterly disappointing. I was SO excited, was definitely going to pick this set up! For a lipgloss to promote itself as watercolor, you would think the ONE thing the focus would have been on is a smooth, even look. The extreme transparency, the milkiness – even the patchiness I can forgive, thinking they could work over a lipstick. But the settling into lip lines? Every single shade? Unforgivable! I love Bite Beauty, but it looks as though I will be purchasing the Buxom Pink With Envy set instead… which is fun and pretty, but definitely not quite the same as this beautifully packaged and presented collection. A total letdown. Thanks once again for your work, Christine!

Lori Avatar

I know this is not a full review, but just based off the colors and the way they look on the lips… Why even make a set with these colors? There may be one or two colors that are decent looking…but otherwise, what a strange mix of colors. Eh.

Molls32 Avatar

Can’t say I’m very impressed, they look like they’re going to melt off.
I get it, it’s a lipgloss not a matte lipstick but the quality seems mediocre.
Very patchy and some of the shades look way off.

Janine Avatar

I’m not sure what anyone would do with mint green it yellow gloss. The others might be great over lipsticks and mixed with other products. Can’t really judge until I get it in hand and try it. Sometimes things we think won’t be great turn out to be something we love. The green and yellow… Pastels… Now that I’m just not sure what to do with.

Taylor Avatar

I can’t believe people are complaining that the pastel shades are sheer. Do you really want to walk around with Easter egg lips? The name of the set is WATERCOLOR. Watercolor = transparent, translucent. Not every lip product needs to be pigmented to death. I love these and think they’re beautiful washes of color. The light purple looks especially beautiful!

Jules Avatar

Actually, I do want to walk around with pastel lips – it’s something different from the 1000 identical reds and pinks already on the market!

Annie S. Avatar

There’s sheer and there’s sheer to the point of invisible. Several of these look as if you have nothing on the lips. And I disagree that transparent would be a synonym for watercolor. I get that Bite was probably going for a light shade of color but I think that it wasn’t successful.

inatay02 Avatar

I can’t wait for these! The berries/pinks look so beautiful. I don’t care that the fun/unique colors are on the sheer side, I prolly wouldn’t wear a mint lip anyway. I’m really looking forward to using those unique shades on top of my everyday lipstick colors to change them and give them new life.

Jules Avatar

What a disappointment! I was hoping those pastel shades would be amazing but they look as bad as MAC’s attempts with lipglass for the Playland collection.

MelanieB. Avatar

Wanted these so bad until I saw them on the lips. All the pastel unconventional colors don’t even show up. Sadly a pass. :/
