I guess what I hate about Waterproof Mascara is that for me, it never seems all that waterproof. When I wear waterproof mascara & go swimming, I still end up with raccoon eyes. Maybe it’s just the brands I try.

Evelyn Avatar

have u tried covergirl lashblast waterproof? u probably have since its pretty popular but its the only waterproof mascara ive tried and i havent really run into any problems with it yet
didnt try swimming with it on though

ChristineDior Avatar

Covergirl mascaras fail me 🙁 I’ve tried a alot of their mascaras in all kinds of ways and still weighs my lashes down (I have short lashes) and gives me racoon eyes. Perhaps I should try lashblast waterproof 🙂

Evelyn Avatar

haahah yeah my lashes arent that long either
i use the shu uemera (can never figure out how to spell that) eyelash curler which gives them an amazing curl and when its added with covergirl lashblast waterproof, it actually makes them look long hahaha
the curl doesnt seem to really get lost either, i find, with covergirl lashblast waterproof
if anything, they just fall back down a LITTLE (i just ran to the mirror to check ahhaha), nothing really noticeable

Kat Avatar

that eye lash curler cut my eye lashes off….
Blink kiss is the best it comes off in tubes and doesnt leave the raccoon eyes at all…
I just wish I could get my eye lashers to grow now they are cut off 🙁

I actually use regular LashBlast all the time. Never tried their waterproof version just cause of my past experiences with waterproof mascaras, but maybe I should now. Thx for the tip!

I’m not a fan in general. I never found a formula I liked as much as I like my Neutrogena Weightless Volume, plus it was a pain in the ass to have to use makeup remover every night and scrub at the stuff, rather than just swipe a moist cleansing towelette over my face and be done for the night.

I’d make an exception if I were inclined to wear makeup when I go outdoorsing, though. Not that I usually do. But I can see it being useful for snowboarding or hiking or climbing, things where I’m going to be active and sweating.

I love waterproof! My eyes tend to water sometimes for no reason and so I always need waterproof so my eye makeup doesn’t go crappy lol.

I don’t like waterproof mascara because its always so hard to get off unless I use an oil based remover and it leaves me with more of a racoon eye than a regular mascara would

Mindie Avatar

All mascara irritates my eyes but waterproof is the worse. It flakes into my eyes all the time. I have tried different brands and they all do the same. I have very sensitive eyes though… eyeliner irritates my eyes as well… so I don’t know.

I have only used drug store brands… I tried MAC and I didn’t like it AT ALL. Took forever to dry… that’s the only high end mascara I have ever tried.

Maybe I am using the wrong brands… I dont know…

Also… It is hard to get the waterproof mascara to come off.

Vivian Avatar

the only waterproof mascara I’ve used is Diorshow. it smudged on me. So, for oily lids, I’d suggest them stay away from waterproof because they could leave film of black lining on the lids. it’s waterproof, so it might be water resisitant, but it’s helpless against waterproof makeup remover- which is made primarily with oil. I use the regular ones and unless the formula is wetty, they don’t smudge on my lids.

Anitacska Avatar

I only use waterproof mascara when I go swimming, or on holiday, so not very often. To be honest I’ve had the same mascaras for about 5 years or so, I have a Rimmel and a Max Factor one, and they’re both fine. I used to wear only waterproof and not actually wash it off at night (naughty naughty), or at least not for a few days, but now I just use normal ones and take all my make up off every night.

sarah Avatar

i always use waterproof mascara caz i have pe and we swim everyday.
i tried loreal volumnious and covergirl lashblash and both worked great. what i hate about covergirl that it doesnt come off when u want to take it off. its that good.

sarah Avatar

mac fluidline
i swear it works
all my classmates keep asking me what eyeliner i use
it does come off or smudge when i go in water

Wilcoa Avatar

I love wtp mascara, just because my eyes tend to water, especially during allergy season, so it’s the only thing that stays on. On the other hand I can’t wear it all the tim b/c it’s hard to take off and it dries out my lashes which then come out :S Wish I could find a happy medium.

Laura Avatar

I’ve been using Maybelline’s The Colossal Volum’ Express in waterproof, for the price, it’s pretty good although the brush is quite large so tends to be hard to control in tighter areas like the inner corner lashes.

Moni Avatar

I can only use waterproof mascara since my eyelids ae very oily (so regular mascara will smudge very easily on me).

My favorites so far are Maybeline Full n Soft & Maybeline Volume Express.

Jen Avatar

I have all but given up on waterproof mascaras. I wear contacts and can’t take most of the makeup removers required to remove them. I’m just fine with my Too Faced Lash Injection for daily wear and Dior Show for my nights out. I’ve never found the need for waterproof except the day I got married. And boy, did I ever need it that day! I cried like a newborn baby, who would have known?

ChristineDior Avatar

the only mascara that hasn’t failed me is Maybelline’s waterproof mascara, pink bottle black cap. Its very difficult for me to find a mascara that will hold my lashes up after I curl them. For lengthening my lashes, first I use my maybelline and then use either Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara, Dior Show mascara, or Fairy Drops mascara on the tips of my lashes 🙂

Nic Avatar

I love waterproof mascara! I rarely wear regular mascara. Maybe it’s just my lashes, but I find most regular mascaras won’t hold a curl. I curl my lashes, put the mascara on, and they straighten right out. When I use waterproof mascara, though, they stay perfectly curled all day. It gives them better volume, too.

My only complaint is that they’re hell to remove. I use the CoverGirl Exact mascaras (Lash Exact, Volume Exact, Exact Eyelights) and, though I love them, they are by far the most difficult-to-remove mascaras I’ve ever encountered. They don’t flake or smudge on me, though. 🙂

Chelsea Avatar

I have really sensitive eyes that water when my allergies hit or if it’s at all windy, so basically all the time. Love mascara, hate wiping it off my face, also hate battling to remove waterproof. What I discovered though is you can do your lashes with your favourite regular mascara then add a thin coat of waterproof. You get most of the benefits of waterproof mascara (it will hold up to some rubbing and watering, but not a crying jag) and it’s still easy to remove!

Glosslizard Avatar

I love waterproof mascaras when I know I’ll be tearing up (funerals, sad movies… you know!), but I hate that they seem to smudge a lot more than regular formulas! Anyone got any recommendations for a smudge-proof, water-proof formula? I have no issues with removal!

Evelyn Avatar

ive already recommended this to nicole15 but have u tried covergirl lashblast?
its the only waterproof mascara ive ever tried but i havent really run into any problems with it so far

Hellcandy Avatar

I ALWAYS use waterproof mascara s I find normal mascara to make my just curled lashes go straight again. It’s very very frustrating.
If anyone can recommend a HG waterproof mascara I would be eternally grateful!

Evelyn Avatar

same as nicole15 and glosslizard, i would say try covergirl lashblast waterproof
its the only waterproof mascara that ive tried but i havent had any problems with it

Treilycious Avatar

I love Prescriptives Here to Stay 24 Hour Mascara in Black. It doesn’t flake or clump and it separates the lashes and really stays. The only downside is that it’s $20.

Kimberly Avatar

I love waterproof mascara when I’m going out, or I’m gonna be running around all day, it just lasts longer. The only thing I hate about it is that certain brands seem to be harder to remove. But sometime I let my pads soaked with eye makeup remover sit on my lids for few minutes & it seems to come off better.

lina Avatar

shiseido’s is really good for staying on but it’s pretty hard to remove
i like waterproof cuz they hold curl! but hate it cuz you have to use a good makeup remover

baybee Avatar

i like waterproof mascara because it holds my curls for the day, but the but thing about waterproof mascara is that is really hard to remove or maybe i havent found a good waterproof eye makeup remover.

Dree Avatar

for some reason my family has extremely oily skin … including lashes, so waterproof is the only way to go. currently I’m using the maybelline colossal waterproof mascara and it works really well. the covergirl lashblast is on my list to try next.

DanielleO Avatar

My main problem with mascara is smudging on the lower lids. I used to wear Lancome Definicils (non-waterproof) and it would survive teary contact problems and yoga classes. Then I switched to DiorShow Iconic (waterproof) cuz I liked the lash effect but it smudges. Less when I curl my lashes but still. I only use one tube of mascara at a time so when I’m done with this I will try something like Clinique High Impact Curl or Prescriptives Here to Stay.

Carmen Avatar

the couple of waterproofs I tried years ago were awful to remove. What’s the point of using that when it takes off half of your lashes trying to remove it? and all the pulling and tugging?? Not worth it! Haven’t used it in years and don’t plan to, either.

barbara Avatar

On the rare occasion that i have worn wp mascara, i have noticed lashes fall out more than normal the following morning. I really like lumene blueberry curl mascara. Its so conditioning, feels like you have nothing on.

Sally Avatar

This is so dang helpful! Thanks for all your work. And I noticed the whole new “click on a link and it will open in a new tab” feature. Much easier navigation. Thanks again!!! <3

Daisy Avatar

I only use waterproof mascara. I guess it’s because I like the idea of being safe from raccoon eyes! Rain, swimming, falling into the water.. No problem! Which is always nice to know.

I used Lancome hypnose (waterproof) for some time, but I found it a bit too expensive, so I switched to the Body Shop waterproof mascara. Now I am thinking of trying out MAC mascara though. Its a tough decision, because Mascara is always a gamble. There are quite a few “curling and lengthening” mascaras that ended up weighing down my lashes more then before I applied the mascara..

Jessica Avatar

My absolute favorite is Clinique’s Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula, it is super smooth and comes off in luke warm water.

Michelle Avatar

Lancome hypnose (waterproof) –> I am on the water very often ( windsurfing) and this mascara never never runs out. But I only use it when I go swimming or surfing because it is hard to get off…

Jessica Avatar

I looooove waterproof mascara. I know some ladies have already said this, but I think it’s the only kind of mascara that holds my curl. I use Diorshow waterproof on my top lashes and Diorshow non-waterproof on the bottom lashes (because I have long lower-lashes and the oils from below my eyes seem to smudge the waterproof… I end up looking like a raccoon)

angie Avatar

covergirl lashblast waterproof mascara & shu uemura eyelash curler is the ONLY thing that holds a curl for me. my lashes grow straight down and this is my HG <3

Erica Avatar

Clinque Lash Power is the best! Washes off in luke warm water and you don’t loose an eyelash! Love it! Also, MUFE eyeliner won’t budge unless you use their remover.
