Rant & Rave: Liquid Highlighters

Liquid Highlighters

I love them for mixing with foundation to have a more luminous finish! I find that to work better for me than a dewy foundation personally.

I feel like these can be so versatile, but they often don’t mix well with foundation on me. Either they break it up and move it when used over the top, or mixed in they make my foundation wear away quickly. I would love to find one that plays well with foundation for an oily skinned girl who needs budge proof makeup. The colour pop formula is more of a mousse, so I find that to be the best compromise, as it’s not too wet.

I would love to try this as I’ve tried dewy setting spray and dewy finish makeup and I still look matte. But what product and color would do the job without changing the color of your foundation? Thanks!

I’ve only tried one, but I’m not a fan. If I put it on top of my foundation, it’s too much… And my face does the all-over glow look just fine on its own after a while, so I definitely don’t want to be mixing it in.

I’ve never used liquid only powder highlighters. I’m on the oily side and also have large pores that I’m afraid I’ll accentuate. Plus my usual foundation is a mineral based powder and not sure how a liquid would mix/apply over it. The closest I’ve come to liquid is the benefit stick (sample) highlighter. The name escapes me at the moment…it’s a light golden colored highlighter. Anyways, it didn’t wow me. If I highlight, I have to be really careful because I get oily and highlight+oil is not a good look on me. If I ever find a liquid matte foundation that I like then maybe i’ll try the trick of adding some liquid highlighter to it. Until then I doubt that I have much use for it in my routine.

I love them for when I forego foundation and want a glowy look on my skin (esp on days my skin is looking a little lackluster). I think I’ll try mixing with my foundation to see how I like that for the winter months. Great tip 🙂

I hatee when liquid highlighters pick up my foundation/blush. If I’ve got a heavy face on, I’ll always reach for powder. I find the Becca liquid highlight to be the best over foundation, if I go that way.

I don’t own any Wetnwild came up with a new selection and a whole bunch of eyeshadows, blushes and fun stuff!. That’s an awesome tip Christine. I will be following it! Always forget to do it. Thanks!

I’m going to try the mixing with my foundation trick at some point (I have two of the Cover FX Enhancer Drops). Also, I’d like to do a very tiny amount in my body lotion for my decolletage at the same time just to see if I can get a nice cohesive effect. I *have* put it in my body lotion, but it was more than I needed and it was too different from my perpetually-matte face. Time to try again.
