I have a few, but in all honesty, I don’t use them much. However, I still buy them (especially Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier) usually with eye palettes. 🙂

I don’t like them. They are messy, the size can make them a hassel, and I’d usually rather just carry an individual lipstick or gloss rather then the whole kit and kaboodle. Also, if you are forgetful like me, they are very messy if they happen to melt in warm weather. Even worse when palettes have eyeshadows and lip products together. The eyeshadow gets everywhere, and gets into the lip products. Gross!

Technically, I love them. However, except for a Bloom gloss palette that came out many moons ago and NARS’ lip lacquer palette, I rarely like the formulas of the brands that make them. The NARS would’ve been perfect if it included a small brush. I prefer mirror + brush, but will take no brush if colors are perfect. I also prefer gloss palettes to lipstick ones. There is less fuss, and sheer gloss tends to work better on all skin tones.

I’m not a fan. A lipstick tube is so much easier to carry and more versatile, whereas a palette is so much messier and so much less versatile. You (usually) can’t pick the combination of shades you want, you *have* to use a lip brush (I guess you could use a finger, but that’s even worse imo, LOL!) and the pots still get dirty! I only have one and I never use it. =/

Hate ’em. Colour always looks feeble, hard to apply evenly, messy… basically a waste of money as far as I’m concerned. haven’t bought one in years. Don’t plan to.

i dont like them. i dont really mind dipping my finger but palettes are too bulky to carry around. I’d rather just whip something small out and use it.

I’ve had a Mac PRO Lipmix palette for some time now. It is a little inconvenient, but it works when i’m working on clientele. But for myself, I think I much prefer a tube to a palette.

I don’t have many of them and I don’t use them often, but I think they’re good for traveling. I also think they’re good for mixing shades to create the lip color you really want. I used to have a Clinique lip palette w/ a little lip brush that I carried in my bag and I used it all the time for touch ups.

I really liked the idea of lip palettes but when I got one, I realized that it was much more difficult to scoop out the color and apply to my lips than with a tube lipstick. Combination palettes with eyeshadow and lipstick/gloss can be super messy as well!

I don’t like them at all! Messy, bulky, things get stuck in them, usually not very pigmented, and i don’t want to have to use a lip brush or stick my finger in it!

I quite like them.
I have a Bobbi Brown Rose Lip Quad and it doesn’t take up any more space that a normal lipstick (just a different shape) and has 4 colours.
I also travel a lot and it’s way more convenient to slide my Chanel Roses Nuages or Clinque Color Surge palettes into an already overstuffed toiletry bag that trying to pack in several individual lipstick tubes. I also love my Dior Gaucho palette – the packaging is gorgeous and the 6 colours are REALLY beautiful. The lipsticks in the Chanel Mordoores Contraste Lumiere palette that came out a few years ago are also beautiful – I have no idea what the shades are but I would never have purchased them separately as lipsticks.

I don’t think I’ve ever finished an entire tube of lipstick, so I don’t mind paying generally less over all for less product per colour, but a wider range of shades.

Most lip palettes I get are just really weird, I don’t know why! Especially the ones that are attached to blush or eye shadow palettes, they just aren’t mosturizing. Sometimes the lip palettes that are strictly for lips are pretty good.

Diana Avatar

To messy. It’s so much easier and convenient to grab a lipstick and go. Between the fingers and lip brush it’s just an infection waiting to happen.

Mirna Avatar

Lip palettes are inconvinient, IMO. I think it is way easier to pull out a lipstick or lipgloss. I don’t want to worry about my lip brush to put on my lip palette. I only use lip palettes when I am getting ready at home or doing someone else’s makeup. Don’t like them or use them for on the go.

I guess I don’t really carry my makeup with me but I have nothing but love for lip palettes. I have the Perfect Everyday Colors palette from NYX and it’s rather compact and easy to carry in my opinion.

sharon Avatar

honestly, they catch up my total attention, but, i have a few lip palettes and i realized that i dont use them that much. and being honest,im so lazy using a separed brush o my finger

Andrea Avatar

not a fan. I don’t really like using a lip brush, I just prefer using straight from the tube! The last one I bought (and probably will ever buy) was from the mac Colour Forms collection!

I thought about getting the one from Chantecaille but $69 is too much. I really like the ones from La Metier Beaute – the kaleisdscope but that is $95! I just like the design but in general I don’t go for lip palettes – messy, takes too much time to put on, and it will likely just sit in a drawer most of the time.

Lorna Avatar

i don’t like any lip product where i have to stick my fingers or a separate lip brush in it. it’s so inconvenient, messy and gross on so many levels

victoria Avatar

i hate them. most of the time i love the packaging but when it comes to using them, they are a pain. you have to use a brush and their bulky and time consuming and you can’t touch up discreetly you have to, well i have to, go to the ladies to touch up.

Hi there. You know, I love eye palettes, but will never purchase a lip palette. I will use a lip brush with my tubes but never buy palettes. For my clients, I get plenty of the product on the brush so I know I won’t need to redip onto the tube. If I do need to, I use a clean lip brush. Even for my personal lip colors, I use a brush at times for better application but don’t like the palettes. I think it is because I generally like one or two colors out of a palette of five or six. Great question:)

I like lip palettes! They are a great way to carry more than one shade around in a compact fashion, and you can mix and match at will. I have gotten tons of use out of various palettes – MAC holiday palettes and a Victoria’s secret one that I keep at work. They are also a great way to try shades that you normally wouldn’t. Bring ’em on, I say!

Liz Avatar

Not a fan of lip palettes, but I do own a fews from bobbi brown. The color are just so sheer and diffferent from the same exact one in a tube… go figure…too messy and inconvenience..

Jennifer Avatar

It all depends on the palette, I don’t buy premade palettes, I do it the old fashioned way with a palette knife and a tube of lipstick. They’re more bang for the buck, you get that extra bit of lipstick that the tube blocks you from getting (unless using a lip brush)

For those who say they’re germy, they don’t have to be. When you get the color you want to use, scrape a bit out, put it on a palette (usually only artists have those, so I suppose a plate will do) then use the bit that’s on the palette/plate. That way you’re not putting the brush directly into the lipstick and spreading germs.

It is as simple as it sounds.

I use them while working on clients, I personally don’t wear lipstick, I’m a gloss kind of gal.

If you want to do it, buy a palette here: http://www.makeupcreations.com/emptylippalettes.htm (I’m a fan of japonesque, but you don’t HAVE to get that one, just google empty lip palette)

Good luck!
