Pat McGrath Moonlit Seduction Mothership Palette is the newest Mothership palette and features 10 shades across a mix of finishes. Worth noting, none of the shades are domed as they have been in the past, though they have the “special” names (like VR, Blitz, and Astral). Next time I go to photograph (later this week), assuming I can locate my Pat McGrath intensifying wand, I will try to get swatches of the special shades over that. Here are swatches for now!

I went crazy Friday night and ordered this palette after 2 cocktails with dinner and an espresso martini for dessert. I told myself earlier in they day, “Wait for Christine’s swatches.” These swatches aren’t exciting me! Good thing PMG takes returns.

I’m curious if vr sextasy is a dupe for JD Glow Unexpected, or it might be a dupe for Urban Decay moondust shadow in Solstice. It looks to me like a common blue-brown duochrome but with a sparkle finish. The color Platinum looks beautiful, like the best party taupe with sparkle finish. The rest of the palette is dupable within PMG existing range. Even though this palette is beautiful and tempting, it is permanent and I’m capable of waiting a few months for a good sale. I won’t lie to myself and will admit that I will be picking it up, but not full price. I’ll sit and wait for a discount, which is definitely coming, I’ll be patient.

Kristin you’re absolutely right, it’s not cool. Only “Subliminal” adapts to the needs of a winter armochromatic complex. I do not understand this tendency of all brands to always insert some warm shade. Finding palettes with cool and deep tones that I love and value is almost impossible!!!

I won’t lie, but I really may pick this up when it goes on one of her “Major” sales of 30-40%. One drawback to that idea is that this looks extremely dupable across my ND palettes, and if I could only find my Buxom 6-pan palette that I put together years ago, that burgundy with the teal flip would be covered! Been searching for that one ever since Mother gave us preliminary views of this Mothership X.

I like Xtreme Nocturne – but for the love of all that’s holy, can we please pause on pink transition shades? For just like five minutes? THEY ARE NOT UNIVERSALLY FLATTERING! At this point I can’t tell if pink is in everything because that’s what sells or if it’s the cheapest color to formulate with. Either way, those two matte pinks are the deathly shade of pinky/purpley/mauve that will turn me in to an ugly corpse. Pass.
Looking at the individual shades, one by one, in the swatches….It doesn’t feel like a complete color story of ten shades at $128. At least it’s got a slightly different feel than the previous two motherships.

Pat either can’t or just won’t produce an edgy, fun palette like some of her earlier releases. My singles from JD Glow and Terra Moons blow everything she’s been releasing out of the water. It’s not a bad palette, but certainly not exciting. How many times has that blue brown duochrome been done by now? Every brand seemingly has one.

I wasn’t going to order this, I was going to wait for reviews. Then I broke down and ordered it yesterday, but now wish I would’ve waited! One day I’ll learn my lesson, maybe.

Genevieve Avatar

The palette looks quite interesting with its cooler toned leanings, but the pinks in there just don’t do it for me – I think they spoil the palette, as one of them looks quite warmish. I wouldn’t use the Xtreme Nocturnal shade either. A few shades do look lovely though – Blitz Venus and Bronze Devotion.

Latika Avatar

Looks lovely.. her palettes always look better in person and certain lighting.. so many negative comments on her last year holiday palette and it is one of my absolute favorites! I will have to see this one in person but so far it looks amazing.. the glittery bronze, gold, pink and lilac.. I can do so much with those and you have the other mattes to build around them.. This is very wearable. Very pretty and elegant. I am also on pan with so many of my other mothership palettes… so this may be the next purchase for me.

Nina Avatar

If the Platnum were single I’d get it. I live for a complex, alll mixed up eyeshadow like this. I’ll wait and see if you have a dupe. This is why I never buy a pallet. Usually I only love one or two.

Lianne Avatar

Platinum Dusk and Xtreme Nocturne are appealing, but the rest feel like colors I have in abundance. Appreciate the way she keeps churning out the palettes but I may be at saturation, it’s so hard to tempt me to buy ’em!

Dolores Avatar

Not the most colorful palette but very wearable for me. It’s not so pink or rosy which I do like. Truthfully, I would have picked this up because I collect her palettes, especially her mothership palettes. I was hoping for something more colorful, I guess I’ll have to find that during the upcoming Sydney Grace sale. Thanks Christine for the swatches! Always appreciate you hard work and unbiased approach to the products. You really have saved me a massive amount of money!

Natasha Avatar

I’ve learned to wait for your very reliable reviews and swatches before buying a palette. Especially from this brand. So glad I did in this case because away from the dazzling IG photos this is, to me another brown and gold dominated palette of which I have many. Interesting point about the absence of the dome shape. I wonder if it was for product stability or saving a few grams per pan.

Violet Avatar

In terms of colour range, this kind of feels like Natasha Denona’s Retro palette, but re-interpreted by Pat McGrath. I might get it later, if I can get it in combination with another palette and for an additional 30-35% off.

Oliwia Avatar

I somehow hoped it would be less pink. The first promo photo gave me that impression, don’t know why.
It’s going to be a pass. It’s hard for me to discern most of the Motherships.

PMG becomes the second Charlotte Tilbury in my head: I know where to head for a particular kind of pink, but nothing else, and well, I’ve got enough of both PMG and CT products to make me disinterested in their new releases (unless, of course, there will be something significantly different)

Nichole Avatar

Oh Mother Pat. Lately, 10 pan releases are getting more boring than the previous. I knew from the initial promo pics that I wasn’t interested and the swatches back that up. How many times has blue brown been done? I have 10 of these. It was edgy 15 years ago, not now. I’m beyond tired of the pink and the sparkly shades aren’t cutting it. Sad.

Thalia Avatar

Well, darn. This is really not what I was hoping for. It really seems like since Mothership VII it’s been iterations on a theme. Almost like they hired a McKinsey consultant who crunched the numbers and determined that the best was to get that sweet, sweet EBITDA is to eschew the compelling artistry of the earlier Motherships and just continue variations of Mothership VII.
Here’s hoping that she releases some compelling VR/Astral quads before the holidays.

Nora Avatar

Whyyyy just why have her eyeshadow releases of the past 2 years been so pink and so boring ? These shades are very boring, the light sparkly shades for 3/4 blitz again ! I miss the days of midnight sun and subversive. I just want another grudgy glam mothership. I would rather get too faced sun set stripe of abh latest pallets over this.

Sheki Avatar

I’ll definitely pick this up on an accidental 50% off sale. or maybe when it doesn’t sell well like midnight sun didn’t (which is a genius palette, btw)and goes 40% off.
Saving my coins for a big Natasha Denona palette – she’s always taking risks with her color stories, which I love. I’ll be picking up the pastel palette and whatever else she releases during thanksgiving.
I’ve learned my spending lessons.
