NARS Taiga Eyeshadow Duo

NARS Taiga Eyeshadow Duo ($33.00) is described as a “pale gold frost” and “gold-infused pewter.” The left side is a pale white gold with a frosted finish; it’s a bit sheer, and this kind of color is found in a lot of brands. The right side is an olive green with a dirty gold shimmer-sheen. It has good color payoff and a really smooth feel. I was half-hoping it was similar to Giorgio Armani #14, but it’s much greener. It’s a touch cooler-toned compared to theBalm Wocka, Wocka. Lancome Designer has a softer golden sheen, so it appears almost darker, but they’re very similar. Inglot #419 is also really close in color.

NARS line of pressed powder eyeshadows are supposed to be “highly pigmented, long-wearing, and crease-resistant.” They don’t wear all day on me without a primer, though some perform better than others. I typically get around eight hours with subtle creasing and marginal fading, but the usage of a primer will get me to twelve hours without any creasing or fading.

Dude, I love that greenish shade. I might have to get this even though the light shade is pretty meh – I can use it as a tearduct highlight or something. Whyyyyy isn’t NARS available in my country though 🙁 The shipping is so expensive in Europe.

For everyday, I wear it as a contour colour with something like Abyssinia all over the lid as a base. For extra shimmer, I might layer it over one of the ME shu uemura taupes (who can keep up with their numbering system?).

OMG on first appearances this looks just like the Hourglass eyeshadow duo I purchased last week – in Dune . Are they the same ? They look identical in the photos.

Hey Christina,
The dresses for my sister’s wedding is nearly the darker green shade- is it tacky to wear this eyeshadow with the dress?
I feel like it could totally work!

I see a lot of comment, mostly negative, about Monseiur Nars’ sheer eye shadows. This always amazes me! Go to the Nars website and look at the pictures, read what M. Nars has to say about his make up and what he’s doing. It’s supposed to be sheer! Dense with sheer, matte with shimmer, it’s OK to have skin show through!
Balthazar is a screaming orange paired with bright golden ochre (a deeper yellow) and the original idea is to wear both as sheer color. They stay quite bright applied this way and it’s a color set for deep toned skins or at least a nice bit of bronzer, but the effect is great! A wash of color over an eye is not a flaw. It’s A Thing, a very modern make up that those MAC Big Bounce shadows were based on. The idea was water colors, a soft wash over the eye. Paint on the wall is not the only eye color style.
My point? The golden white here is supposed to be sheer because that’s where the mans Art is. And several other brands have gone this way but everybody complains. Well guess what? Nothing at Nars is “underpigmented”. Try translucent, sheer but plenty of color. The man writes an artists statement about his ideas FGS! He specifies sheer color because he wants sheer color. For you- it’s an opportunity. Do something new.
As Francois Nars says, “Make Up Your Mind” and he means who do you want to be today? Not eww, this is different from what I have always had and always done so icky.

Maybe NARS needs to describe their products better, because that’s not how they describe the formula on their website 🙂 Don’t call it “micro-fine powders that are highly pigminted” (typo included, as that’s exactly as it is typed on the website) if it’s not that. Nobody said you had to wear it opaque, but if it’s described that way, it shoudl be able to be opaque – and it’s not. It’s always a bit sheer. I don’t think I said “eww” either 🙂 I don’t make excuses for brands: if they are going to say it’s long-wearing, opaque, etc. I’m going to hold them to it. There are times when NARS specifically describes a color or shade as “sheer” or “translucent” – and they could have done that here if that’s what it was supposed to do. A product has to do what the brand claims it does, and as you said, you are welcome to wear it however you want. Any opaque color can be worn sheerly, but a sheer color cannot be worn opaque. Not once did I ever say you have to wear your eyeshadow a certain way.

As always, thanks for your review. As someone else noticed, at first glance it appears very similar to the Bare Escentuals 2.0 pressed eyeshadow duo that just came out..Scenic Route I believe? Also, I totally agree with you about some of the NARS shadows applying quite sheer. It’s sort of like a letdown to not achieve the visibility of a color that looks gorgeous in the pan.
