Not surprisingly, I like the American Dream palette because of all the terrific neutrals, many of which are Nars ‘icons’. BUT….what’s with this “Gifting for Fall” idea? Is Thanksgiving now turning into an actual “gift giving” occasion? One of the things so many of us love about Thanksgiving (Canadian or American) is that it’s all the best of Christmas without all the stress of “what shall I give Sally, Mom, Dad, Joe, Allie’s boyfriend?”

Hmm. To get this or the UD Naked 2 palette for my sister for christmas. Naked has more shades, but I like that this has lovely basics (thank you, a matte brown!). Decisions, decisions.

I own one shade from each palette, but if these are available during a friends and family sale, I’ll probably own them. Thanks for posting! You can still get the ‘night’ version of the Nars eyeshadow palette on beauty.com I think!

Outremer!!! I wanted to purchase that when it first came out but I thought I definitely didn’t need that much of something I might not use often. I like the idea of this palette but I’m not sure I want to shell out $55 on something that has a matte black and sheer white shimmer. I feel like I already have too many of those. Bummer.

I had the chance to see these ones at Nars counter last week, and actually got a makeover with American Dreams palette. I asked the MUA to use all the shades in it, so I could see how they all looked on me, and I really liked it. I fact I took the palette with me, since I find it very convenient to carry it in my beauty bag for touchups. New wave looks nice too, but I usually don’t use much bold shades on my daily makeup, so I decided to pass.

OMG I don’t get excited about stuff but THIS IS AWESOME! I can’t wait for a review on the brushes though. I’m skeptical because of the quality problem that MAC always has with their travel sized brushes.

Ooo, glad I scrolled down because I took one look at the New Wave palette and thought bleck. The American Dream palette is lovely though 🙂

Hi Christine, do you know if the New Wave Palette colors are very similar to the Naked/Naked 2 palettes? I have both of them and I don’t know if I should by “American Dream”, since the colors do look fairly similar.

I don’t own Galapagos or Silk Road, but I do have the others. I would say they are different enough from the UD Naked palettes to own both. Bali, for one, is matte, and Belissima & Tzarine are definitely different from any of the UD shades, IMO. All of the shades are permanent, so you can always swatch the individual shades at a counter, Sephora, etc. Christine also has swatches of several of these that are very true to color. The only one I would say is an almost exact dupe is Alhambra. HTH

Sorry, no interest. They seem like they would make OK gifts, but none of those colors make me excited. Re-distribute the Joie de Vivre Cheek palette instead please.

I love the idea of these palettes (both), but as with every other NARS eyeshadow palette, I own at *least* 4 of the 6 shades, so it will actually be a better deal to just get the “missing” shades. The brush set looks interesting, though.

I’m so happy I have New Wave. Every time I see that photo, I just want to stroke the screen and coo. I’m surprised that NARS allowed Nordstrom and other places to sell this 6 weeks ago if they’re positioning it now as a Fall special. Odd.

If any of you are tempted by New Wave but think the colours too intense or bold, I think the set offers more uses than you’d suspect. I think the colours are very versatile together, mixing and matching, especially as some are much less intense (like the Jolie Poupée I). But I’ve turned to New Wave tons of times for looks that *aren’t* so intense. I like to add them as a small pop of colour with more subdued shades or neutrals, or to use colours like Daphne as a eyeliner. Daphne & Rated-R are particularly versatile, imo. (I love Daphne w/ UD’s Loaded, with L’Oreal’s Infallible in Golden Emerald or with MAC’s Spice, Rated R with Golden Emerald or UD’s Rockstar, Outremer with L’Oreal’s Infallibles in Midnight Blue or UD’s Mary Jane, etc.) And, obviously, the black and white are practical as liner or a highlight shade, though both together go great with a silvery grey, esp. for a smoky eye with a black cream base.

Just one note of warning: Outremer is not the easiest shade to work with and, if you want to use it for an intense eye (as opposed to just a liner), then I suggest using a sticky or wet base. (Think cream eyeshadow or a MAC paint pot). Outremer is really intended to be a layering shade, so it won’t work well without something underneath it. Daphne, too, imo. Daphne is a bit finicky but it is possibly the most beautiful purple I own (and I own a lot!). If you have brown eyes, it really makes them pop! Hope that helps someone! 🙂

American Dream looks like the perfect pallet. I’m obsessed with neutrals. So much so that my boyfriend thinks I’m colour blind in that I don’t registered anything that isn’t a neutral shade. Alhambra looks gorgeous!
