Make Up For Ever Flash Color Palette

Make Up For Ever 12 Flash Color Palette ($95.00 for 2.46 oz.) contains Gold 004 (metallic gold), Coral 002 (vibrant coral), Turquoise 000 (light turquoise), Fuchsia 005 (bright fuchsia pink), Yellow 013 (vibrant yellow), Brown 023 (dark brown), Silver 003 (metallic silver), White 010 (pure white), Red 017 (bright red), Bright Blue 014 (bright royal blue), Leaf Green 008 (bright green), and Black 011 (pure black).

This is a multi-tasking, multi-purpose palette designed with the artist in mind. If you have ever played around with color theory, I think this might be something you would enjoy. These are thin, creamy colors in very basic shades (overall) that can be used as is or mixed together to create different shades and variations. I do find that these crease when worn alone, especially if you do not sheer them out a lot, but they work well when layered over an eyeshadow primer or with powder eyeshadows to set.  I like these a lot for just general purpose, not necessarily so much as just eyeshadow bases, but as face or body paint.

  • Gold 004 is a metallic yellow gold with shimmer.
  • Silver 003 is a metallic silver with shimmer. It looks like foil.
  • Coral 002 is a creamy medium coral.
  • White 010 is a bright, creamy white.
  • Turquoise 000 is a creamy, light aqua.
  • Red 017 is a creamy, true red.
  • Fuchsia 005 is a creamy, medium-dark deep pink.
  • Bright Blue 014 is a creamy, brightened royal blue.
  • Yellow 013 is a creamy, bright yellow.
  • Leaf Green 008 is a creamy, light-medium grass green with yellow undertones.
  • Brown 023 is a creamy, medium-dark chocolate brown.
  • Black 011 is a creamy black.

On the back of the palette, it indicates that you cannot use these shades [in the USA] on the eyes: Coral 002, Fuchsia 005, or Red 017; nor these shades on the lips: Silver 003, White 010, or Bright Blue 014. It is interesting that the warnings are for the USA specifically. I was a little concerned about the packaging, but I have had this for a few months now, and the product is still creamy on the surface–no dried up product here.

Though Sephora doesn’t really sell individual flash colors (I only saw one–Bright Blue 014), they retail for $18 each (0.24 oz.), which works out to be $75/oz. This palette contains 2.46 oz. for $95, which works out to be $38.62/oz. It’s a nice way to load up on the Flash Colors for sure–twelve shades in all! A little goes a long way, but you do get a surprisingly amount of product per well (0.205 oz.).

  • Product: 27/30
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: At $95, it is definitely an investment and something you should thoroughly think about whether it is a product you would use. It consists of a lot of basic colors, because it is designed to be mixed on the fly for whatever color you need at a particular moment in time. It’s not necessarily a wear-and-go kind of palette either. I consider this more of an artistry palette, and for makeup artists and budding makeup artists alike, it is a worthwhile piece.

I’ve been eying this up, I think it would be a really fun thing to use but like you say, not everyday. I have been thinking of going into makeup artistry so I can imagine using this to create custom colours either alone or mixing with other products like pigments/lipsticks. I will have to see how much it is in the UK. I wonder if those colours unsafe for the eye/lip area apply over here. It may be something which has been tested in some countries opposed to others?

the old formula of the mufe “fard gras” (not the new aqua eyes) does crease on me. i have the silver one -how to resist to such a beautiful, metallic silver??- but it does definitely crease on me. it doesn’t dry.

NYX combo pencils also crease since they to are grease based product if you don’t set them with powder and use a base. You can use an eyeshadow or transparent powder to get these.

These are more “body art” products but once you set them with a powder they last 16 hours on my eyes.

WOW!!! This is amazing!!!
Love the colours and the possibilities it offers!
But I’m with you, Christine, I think it’s for professional use or for someone who really knows he/she deeply wants it…

These are the best Grease pants from any company. I was tempted to get this palette at IMATS but Grease pants have a much shorter shelf life and i would not for see using these within the year.

I bought the Turquoise 000 pot when Sephora was still carrying them for my Red Queen makeup. Set with a powder eyeshadow it lasted all day.

If it helps at all, I’ve had my flash color palette for about a year now and the products are totally fine. If you just scrape off the top layer every few months, you shouldn’t have a problem.

I think the USA usage restrictions relate to FDA guidelines, and how easy it is to face a lawsuit if a customer gets a reaction from using a product somewhere they shouldn’t, if you don’t tell them not to. That’s why reflects glitters are not recommended for the eyes and some pigments or chromagraphic pencils/chromacakes come with huge restriction lists inside the mac packaging!

I’ve been considering buying this for EVER. Thanks for the review. I won’t be picking it up soon, but I think I’ll be saving this for my F&F 2011 purchase from Sephora.

I’ve been wanting this for a while. The colors are beautiful. I forgot to ask for it for Christmas though so I doubt I’ll be getting it. I can’t bring myself to pay $95 for it.

This one is great for make up artists…I wish they come up with a neutral, more wearable palettes of the new Aqua Creams…some thing on the lines of UD Naked or Bobbi Brown Warm eye palette..

I have this product, and it is probably one of the favorites in my makeup kit. To prevent it from creasing when you want to just use it, layer it on over an eyeshadow base when on the lids(nothing is necessary if on face), then dust setting powder on top, and voila! No more creasing. I use their HD powder because it doesn’t change the color of the product

This definitely looks like something I’d love to have, but would never use. Multi-use, artistic products like this just confuse me. The box is gorgeous, though! I love that well-used, much-loved palatte look!

I’ve used this when I did theatrical makeup and cosplay. It’s true that the shades are spectacularly pigmented but this doesnt last well even if you use a base and set it w/ pigments. This has a tendency to crease and run especially under hot lights and if the model tends to sweat. This is more appropriate for quick shoots or short events, aquarelle is much better to use when doing face and body painting. Kryolan’s supracolor is a less expensive alternative and more longlasting.

This is so reminiscent of the palettes I used as a kid to paint; I love it! 🙂
This palette looks awesome, and I would love to have it in my collection. But I don’t think I’m skilled enough to use it to its full potential.

My Sephora actually sells the individual pots. I have the one in white because I can’t find NYX Jumbo eyeshadow pencil in Milk (I think Canada blocked it for some ingredients in it or something).

You need very little to cover your whole eye area. I just wish it was more sticky so I could use pigments without the fallout!

I’ve had the MUFE Flash Color Palette for nearly a year now and I LOVE it! The colors stay really creamy, and you need so little that I’m not even a quarter done with any of them, even though I use at least one flash color every day. I also adore that I can just bring this, sheer powder, and brushes with me on a trip if I’m tight on space, because I can easily do a full face of makeup with it.
P.S. The brown flash color is great for contouring.

Bianca Avatar

I really want this but like you said I also think that it is for artistry use..but i was wondering if you know of any dupes for the silver color because i really like it and cant find a silver like that do you know any?

Lauren Avatar

I have this palette and I LOVE it! I’ll use the silver/gold/black as eyeliners and some of the other colors as eyeshadow bases. The palette lasts a LONG time. There’s ALOT of product in there and alittle goes a LONG way!!

Thank you so much for this review. I have been dying for this since earlier this year but can never bring myself to pay $95 for it. Now that I am going to take the next step in becoming an artist, I will be purchasing it and blaming it on Temptalia.com … LOL …

Hi Christine, I’m new here, but I’ve been lurking on this blog for a long time.

I really want to buy this palette, as I’m 15 and in lots of theater at my school. I love acting, but also the makeup aspect… (yay for irrelevant background info!) Do you think this will ever be in stock online again, or are they in-store? I want this so badly XD
