Looks - Going Work Safe--For Real!

I have my practice oral argument, which is basically where I speak for eight minutes, then my opponent argues against me, and then I have another two minutes for rebuttal. What’s great is that it seems impossible to prepare for, so while I have some prepared remarks, I’m mostly going to wing it. Thankfully, tonight is practice, and I’m banking on it being a huge learning experience so I don’t make a total fool out of myself next Wednesday when I do it for real (in front of real judges!!–but the case is fake). Court attire required at the practice, nonethelesss, hence needing to do work safe makeup for real! (I have a feeling this may be “too much” by court standards, though. Poo!)

I used Soft Ochre paint pot on lid, Ricepaper eyeshadow all over lid, Brun eyeshadow in outer crease, Soft Brown eyeshadow in outer crease, Patina eyeshadow on outer lid, Ricepaper eyeshadow on brow and lower lash line, Blacktrack fluidline on upper and lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. I had Margin blush with Scult sculpting powder on cheeks. I wore Mari-sheeno lipstick (LE) with Moonbathe lipglass (LE) on my lips.

** These are recommendations for dupes based on permanent colors available — may not necessarily be identical; they are the closest I can think of!

Mari-sheeno = no dupe!; Moonbathe = Love Nectar

WOW! I love the looks you do, and this is no exception. I know you rarely do liner on top, but it really looks fantastic on you. Hope you ace your argument, from another professional student =D

Liner on the upper lash line really makes your eyes pop! I once worked in a law firm, and really, I don’t think that this look would be considered “too much”. It’s not completely nude-looking, but it is neutral and flattering.

Definitely gorgeous but definitely not court-safe…Ease up on the shimmer and gloss and you got it! Your eyebrows are SO looking good too!

I’m in college, too! What are you studying? I’m assuming you’re Pre-Law…or are you already in law school?

And yes, I like the look. Simple and sweet!

That’s such a gorgeous look for moonbathe! I got it from a CCO a couple months ago and I’ve been wondering what to do with it. I have an idea now that I’ve seen your look with it. Good luck!

I work with in an office where its a Title Company and Law Firm, I think this look is trully flawless. You look beautiful. Good luck with your argument.Love the eyeliner on the top lid.

do you do anything to prep your lips? like a scrub or anything? because whenever i wear lipgloss i get the nasty gunk where my lips meet after like 10 min i hate it!!! does that ever happen to you?!

Oh lord oral arguments =( I just had mine this past semester and I was stressing so hard about it. The whole idea of being in front of real judges while trying to give a speech and at the same time having them interrupt you constantly to ask questions was so scary. But once I got up there and started it wasn’t as terrible as I made it out to be.

I think this look is perfect for court standards; I did basically the same thing except without the liner but that was because I was running out of time and I wanted to make sure I got there early.

Good luck with you practice!

You look great!

The only things I would change for a *real* court appearance would be: the lined waterline and gloss–gloss free is usually better. I would also perhaps change the eyeliner to a deep brown instead of black.

hope it went well

Hi Christine! I love this look. Mari-Sheeno looks like such a great lipstick! You look wonderful. I don’t think you’re wearing too much makeup, but perhaps you could lay off the gloss a little. Good luck on your practice and the real oral argument! You’ll do great, and please do tell us how it goes! For some reason, I like doing oral presentations of any kind. I’m really not much of an argument person, though.

Hi Christine!!

The look is awesome!! I’m loving your brows.. are you growing them out a bit? What do you use to fill your brows in?

Good look on your oral argument!! I’m sure you’ll do well!

I love this look, not too much IMO, only difference would be that I would use a chocolate pencil liner on top, and a chocolate powder liner on bottom. No gloss, but the color is beautiful. This looks gerat on you. I can soo picture it with a crisp white shirt, collar popped, and a high waisted pencil skirt in a deep brown satin-y fabric and a great belt. I have to admit though that I would be jealous to see you in court knowing my boyfriend would be there and my dad as well : (

I think this makeup on you makes you look the best you can look…. Hands down, this is my favourite makeup on you. It shows how pretty you are.

Jennifer Avatar

Yeah, I agree with the person who said to tone down the lips. When I go to conferences and give scientific presentations, I will wear something very similar on the eyes, but a more natural, neutral mouth. One trick I learned was that you want people to focus on your eyes when you’re talking, not your lips, because they tend to find you more credible that way 😉

Milan Avatar

Very pretty look. Maybe a more nude lippie will tone it down some and make it court safe. I love it though. And I’m going to try it for my office look! Thanks!

Pia Avatar

hmmmmm… i don’t know, lots of court proceedings I’ve seen ( in the movies, of course, Ally McBeal anyone?) didn’t seem to mind the fresh colored lips. Go for it, Christine! You’ll look awesome and nail that oral!

BTW, your complexion is amazing. What did you wear on the face? We seem to have similar coloring ( i hope).

Glimmer88 Avatar

There is no way this is too much eye makeup. I think it’s very professional looking and anyone who says it’s too much has no idea what they’re talking about. I am sure you will get and have gotten flak from people all your life because they are just jealous.

What?? Lawyers can’t have awesome makeup?!? Thats it, time to change my career plan! Haha I can deal with neatrals during cases… prosecution isnt time for neons!
