Green-blue smoky eye inspired by Rihanna
About this Look
I was inspired by Rihanna’s recent Vogue Arabia cover, and while I didn’t have anything to make that blue really pop, I like how this look turned out.
Step-by-Step Guide
For base, I dotted on foundation on my face and blended with e.l.f.'s new-ish and amazing Selfie-Ready Foundation Blurring Brush and set with loose powder. I decided to continue with the eye since there is some fallout in this palette.
Eyes
I covered the entire mobile lid and inner corner with Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Pink Opal, which is kind of uneven and prone to sheering out on its own, but makes for a good base for shimmery colourful looks. I continued with the teal in Blue Had Me At Hello on the inner corners and inner half of the lid, and then continued with the shimmery blue on the outer corners. I put in a black from the same palette in the outer corner and continued a little way up to the crease. Rihanna had a plummy shade above her crease, but I coudn't find anything like that in my vanity, so I blended the crease and outer corner with Viseart Minx #2 and #3.
For the lower lid, i put down some teal into the inner corner and black for the outer halves. I curled my lashes and then tightlined with Sleek MakeUP's Eau La La Liner in Blue Moon 323, which I also brought out to the outer corners of my top lash line. I added mascara as my last step. Afterwards comparing to Rihanna's look I feel like I should have gone for more black in the outer corners, but I decided not to go back and add anything.
I dusted off fallout and applied Diorskin Star concealer underneath my eyes, and did my brows with Eylure brow pencil and Pixi colourless brow gel.
Lips
I concealed around my mouth and set with powder, and then defined my cupid's bow with NYX Retractable Lip Liner in 08 Sand Beige. Then I covered my lips the Caviar Stick in Pink Opal since that was the closest I could get to Rihanna's cool lavender.
Cheeks
I left cheeks for last and contoured with Sleek MakeUP's Contour Kit in Medium, applied When Leopard Gets a Tan for a gorgeous cool mauvy-pink shimmery blush and dusted some highlighting powder from Sleek's Contour Kit on my cheekbones.
Not having precise enough eye brushes or a really good cobalt blue eyeshadow/liner was what kept me from attempting an actual recreation, but I'm happy enough with the look. I seem to go for smoky eye looks a lot and this one wasn't half bad.
