Look - All Matte Neutrals
I try to get some all-matte looks in from time to time, because it’s basically “out of the box” for me. I gotta tell you, while I don’t have anything against mattes, I just don’t do them often because I don’t have a lot of mattes! But after doing this look, it made me so sad to see all those wrinkles amplified and screaming at me 🙁 I’m not sure if it was a one-time thing or not. Time will tell ;P
How was everyone’s weekend? It’s not quite over yet, but what did y’all do for fun?
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral base), Malt eyeshadow (dark beige-pink), Soft Brown eyeshadow (medium brown), Wedge eyeshadow (cool brown), Bisque eyeshadow (soft beige), Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner, Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Enough Said blush (soft peach)
- Lips: Calvin Klein Lipgloss in Maven
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Enough Said = bronzer
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, apply Malt eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Soft Brown eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Wedge packed on and drag into crease using the 239. Darken crease with Wedge eyeshadow using the 239. Sweep Bisque underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129. Apply Calvin Klein Maven lipgloss for color and shine.

You look different in Matte eyeshades, but in a good way. I love the lips!!
Thanks, Faiza 😀
i LOVE your eyebrows!
Thanks, Danielle!
i think you look great, really classy! It totally enhances your features! Love it!
Aw, thanks a lot, Alice!
I reeeally dislike Honey by UD, I just don’t like gold liner. BUT, this look is so amazingly beautiful that it’s ok! ANOTHER #1 from me! Lovelovelove 🙂 Love everything about this look.
Really?! Aww. I LOVE gold liner, what is wrong with me?!
You look so pretty.
Thanks, Laura!
Hands down, my FAVORITE look of you so far. You are so pretty and your brows are amazing!
Thanks, Coffee 🙂
Your eyebrows look spectacular here! I’m not sure what you did differently . . . but they look great!
Thanks, Kellie! 🙂 LOL, I’m not sure what I did differently either.
I love the raspberry/burgundy lip color. How do you like the lipgloss? Is it a good texture or sticky? I recently bought a CK Delicious Luxury Creme lipstick in Show Stopping. I like it and want to go back to try some more of the line.
Thanks, Kat! 🙂 I love the gloss! I think it has some stickiness to them (I love sticky glosses, so it’s not a problem for me!). I love the pigmentation!
really, really pretty! you look so natural and glowy…you are inspiring me to try a matte eye look!
Aw, thanks, Evangelia! I hope you try one.
You look really sweet! 🙂
Thanks, Jenna! 😀
The paint pots don’t help with the crepe-y creasing problem, I’ve had that happen to me before too. Try using a Paint instead of a Paint pot, I usually have better luck with those, or maybe UDPP.
I’ve never really had this problem before, and I use Soft Ochre as a base often enough. Paints tend to get a little oily on me for some reason 🙁 UDPP creases, LOL.
Wrinkles? Mi’lady, you areth seeing things. I like the matte eyes, yet something seems missing…more Wedge? A bit of Mineral? I shall experiment.
The inner corner are! I swear they’re there ;P
Yes, I think the crease could be a little darker, little more prominent.
Hey Christine! Pretty…I think you should wear more berry lip colors more often. It looks good and I think it really stands out nicely with your dark hair color.
Thanks so much! 🙂 I tend not to only because I do more dramatic eyes (and the popular vote goes for dramatic eyes, too), but I do love them 🙂
I don’t see the wrinkles! It’s definitely odd to see you with rather dewy complexion and matte eyes. I think I like it though. A lot of times you see people with a matte face and shimmery eyes to stand out, and this makes them stand out equally…and it’s different from the norm without being crazy.
lol! It’s funny, I feel like dewy foundations make me look sweaty!
Thanks!
The best look you have posted in ages. Love the eyes!
Thanks, Sadie!
wow…i love this look too!
Thank you, Abby! 🙂
i love this look very much! love the berry lips. did u use lipgloss only? it’s very pgmented i love it!
Yep, just lipgloss 🙂
Thanks!
Loving it!! Very sophisticated and I have to agree: your eyebrows look especially great in this look. :o)
It’s very pretty!!
Thanks, Gio!
this look is EXACTLY what i need for new years parties!
how do i do this look while trying to make my eyes look bigger (rounder) at the same time?
Oh, wow! Thanks, Tinnie!
Try lining the lower lash line and inner corner with a shimmering white shadow or liner.
God bless u honey, u KNO how much i LOVE a matte look! love it!
Ha!
Thanks, Charlene 😉
That lipgloss is very pretty on you!
Thanks, Cloudburst 😀
All I can say is Wow, one of the best looks Ive seen, you look absolutely gorgeous!!
Aww, thank you, Ruby!
The Malt on the inner lid looks strange, not so well blended and a little bit to light in my opinion, but the rest is just amazing. I like it.
Thanks for the tip! What would you have used instead?
I’m not so into matte finishes. Maybe a litte darker color, which looks not so floury or something with a more pinkish base.
Or you exchange Malt with Shroom or another light color with a hint of shimmer or you try Bisque on the inner V as well. I think this would look better, because the crossing between Malt and your natural skin color is too harsh. I believe you can soften this area and reach an more harmonically look.
I hope that helps.
Got it, thanks for the suggestions! The eyes were deliberately all matte though — is Bisque matte?
You’re welcome.
I checked the MAC page. Bisque has a matte finish too, but it doesn’t look so matte under your browbone.
I love this..I keep looking at this over and over..so fresh and new..heck this is sexy girl..what wrinkles??
Thanks so much, Yvette 😉 LOL, the wrinkles that show up on the inner lid area ;P
That gold liner is such a perfect addition. So great for work!
Thanks, Winnie 😀 I am all over gold eyeliner!
I like the lips and the face, but don’t like the eyes, sorry. Especially the eyeliner, odd colour choice tbh. I don’t really do matte either, so that’s really my taste, but you do look nice as always. 🙂
What would you have suggested instead for the eyes?
Thanks!
When I looked at the first picture, I thought “meh”, but it looks good in the full face pic. You look so cute, younger maybe?
Not too crazy about the gold eyeliner, but the lips more than make up for it, gorgeous color =)
Thanks, Claudia 🙂
I’m really starting to like matte make-up these days. You look STUNNING, btw! Ur eyebrows really stand out here!
Thanks, Sash!!
The first time I started noticing my wrinkles – I started wearing every cream under the sun to get them to stop. They didn’t. I’m getting older everyday! =(
Awww!! 🙁 I know how you feel, Jeannie!
very…berry nice!
Thanks, Theresa ;D
You look good!
I need a matte palette, think those colors will work on an NW43?
If not any recs?
Thanks in advance as always!
Thanks! Yes, I think these would work – it’s all about the base 😀
I just stumbled on this page and I have to say that it’s fantastic!
You have great reviews and tips!
Aww, thank you!!
Your eyebrows look WAY better thicker and shapely than your old thin ones. I’m jealous, I wish I could get mine to look this perfect. You look so much younger and fresh!
Thank you so much! 🙂 Just takes a lot of patience to grow them out so you can reshape them.
I am in love with this look! I am going to go buy and fill a quad tomorrow with these colors. I am also going to go swatch this CK gloss to see if it’ll work on me. (Never paid attention or bothered to check out the CK makeup line at my department store.)
You should totally do something like this again. You look awesome!
Thanks so much, Rebecca! 🙂 I’m pretty eager to try out more CK glosses to see if they’re all as decadent as Maven!
Hey Christine!
I made these shadows into a quad at my MAC Pro and the girl said “What a GREAT quad!” She was all excited about the matte/neutral color combos and I told her I got the idea from someone’s site online! Looks like you impressed even the pro girl!
Rebecca
Oh nice! I’m so flattered 🙂 Mostly just by you liking these shadows so much that you made it into a quad!
Wrinkles? Girl, what are you talking about? This look is BEAUTIFUL! I love the way the mattes define your features and you look very chic with your hair pulled back 🙂
LOL. It’s the crepey-wrinkly part of the very inner lid area!
Thank you!
this look is sooo gorgeous , i love every single thing about it. you look too gorgeous, and the tan, just beautiful. . its funny im looking at a fotd from today and compared to this one you’re so much lighter hehe and your hair pulled back like that is also very nice on you
WOW! Thanks so much, Stacy! 🙂
Hey Christine, I think you pulled that look off quite well. I don’t own alot of mattes either. I own a few because I think they help blend some colors together well and that they are useful for highlighting. It’s funny that you say they amplify wrinkles because my mom is telling me to find her an entire eyeshadow palette of just matte neutrals and it’s proving quite a challenge for me. She claims that shimmery shadows are amplifying her wrinkles.
Thank you, Bettina! 🙂
I’m so mad – Bobbi Brown usually comes out with matte palettes for the holidays but this year not so! Shimmery eyeshadows can definitely do that, though!
