What was the last product you bought because of the hype?

What was the last product you bought because of the hype? Was it worth it?
I want to say it was the Laura Mercier Artist’s palette… I bought that due to so many reader requests! It was a nice palette, so yes!

I resisted for several years, but finally caved on a mini Orgasm/Laguna duo, mainly for Laguna, but I was happily surprised to like Orgasm as much as I do!

Naked 3, I kept hearing all the hype about it in general from beauty bloggers but also in general about the naked palettes, but I think naked 3 was def worth the hype in my opinion!

xamyx Avatar

Naked 3; while it’s a great palette, and every shade is gorgeous, it’s really not one I feel I’ll be turning to very often… it’s starting to grow on me, but there are a few shadea in there that I feel break from the overall cohesion.

MAC Stereo Rose MSF. I don’t know if it was the last hyped up product I bought (it was a few years ago) but it’s one that sticks out in my mind….so not my color..so pink, and sparkly…regret buying that.

Kelsey Avatar

The only thing that makes me like… 99% satisfied vs 100% with my Mia 2 is that you only have the one wash timer… If my Mia 2 dies and I have to buy a new one, I’d think about getting the plus or aria so I could choose a longer wash cycle for those days I need a good scrub.

L’oreal Butterfly Mascara and It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer. The concealer is amazing–I can see why it’s so popular! Not sure about the mascara–will be trying it out over the weekend.

Gabby Avatar

Anastasia Dipbrow pomade…..not at fan at all. It smudges on me and doesn’t last long. Def. bought it because of all the hype it was receiving and I regret it…

Belinda Avatar

The Urban Decay primer potion. It does make my eyeshadows last up to 7 hours (I have quite oily eyelids), but I really don’t like the texture of it. I find that it can make some of my eyeshadows look really patchy. I really want to try the NARS primer.

Veronica Avatar

I have oily, hooded lids, and I’m throwing my vote in for the NARS. It’s an expensive primer, but it’s the only one I’ve used that makes my eyeshadow wear like iron. It earns the price tag, IMHO.

xamyx Avatar

Kat von D has a great primer. My lids aren’t oily, but I find it to be a bit drying. If you can, pick up a sample at Sephora, as well as LORAC Behind The Scenes primer (both come in tubes, so making samples should be no problem).

The naked3, although it wasnt an impulsive buy. I had seen reviews and swatches of it before its arrive to the store and found it more beautiful than the others. Since it was my first naked, i dont consider i bought it because of the hype itself but was a hype product for sure!

Meghan Avatar

This surprises me! I personally love Woodwinked. I find it’s easy to pop on & blend – looks like you’ve put a lot more effort into your shadow than you actually did! Do you find it’s the color or consistency you don’t like about it?

MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Fairly Precious. These highlighters usually sell out before I can make up my mind. Not this time! I’m so glad I was able to pick this one up. I finally get what all the hype is about that surrounds these products. Amazing!

Definitely MAC riri holiday collection. I ended up buying some stuff from the collection just because I felt like I was missing something with everybody talking about of it. My pleasure bomb lipstick still untouched though. Lol!

Naked 3 comes to mind. I also picked up a few Revlon Matte and Lacquer balms. Both were totally worth the hype, although I haven’t had a chance to use the Naked 3 much since I’ve been pretty sick. I also picked up that lip gloss you recommended, the Revlon Colorstay Adorned I think it was called? I found it in a little clearance glass bowl at Ulta and I thought “THIS IS FATE!” lol That lipgloss is amazing! I’ve worn it a few times out and bought and had about 6 or 7 people stop me and compliment my lips. I’m gonna pick up a spare tube because I have a feeling that is going to be my new signature color! 😀

I can also let you know some things I plan on picking up soon that have been really hyped about. The NYX Butter Lipsticks! I really want to get Hunk. 🙂

Naked 3. No, not worth it about to return mine. UD shadows are great for the first hour and that’s it. Fades too fast – even with primer + base.

Danielle Avatar

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in Cool Guava. Pretty color, but it has an almost a gritty feeling on my lips. In my opinion, if I’m paying that much $ for a lip balm, the texture should be spot on. So needless to say, I don’t reach for it that much. Too bad though, becuase it is a pretty color and I love the smell.

kurohana Avatar

i bought WEN and it was so worth it completely changed my hair for the better

what i really want to buy is the Dior lip balm and Dior Healthy glow blush as well as the nail glow polish

Ellen Avatar

The Dior lip glow? I have the original (not the coral) and I LOVE it. It turns a brighter pink on me, but it’s still fairly natural-looking and feels amazing!

Sassa Avatar

Hourglass Ambient Light palette.
Meh,
On me, the differences are so minute that it’s not worth the room that it takes up in my makeup drawer.

Veronica Avatar

The new matte shades from the Kate Moss for Rimmel London line. I was a little leery of using them after seeing your review, but they are actually quite comfortable on. One of the less drying matte lines I’ve tried from the drug store.

Nancy Avatar

I’m glad I’m not the only one who succumbed to the NAKED3 hysteria. I tried working with it for a couple of weeks, and ended up returning it. I have eye allergies, and the lighter colors were not flattering on me at all. I liked the darker colors in the palette, but I have several near-dupes, so it just didn’t make sense to keep it.

JJ Avatar

Mac volcanic ash exfoliater and hourglass ambient lighting powder. I like them. Also konjac cleansing sponge but ended up returning because bf made fun of me paying $18 for a piece of styrofoam looking thing. Plus I already own a cleansing device.

Tracy Avatar

Naked 3, Hourglass Ambient palette, GlamGlow mud mask come to mind. All love ! But the last one I bought is YSL Volupte Sheer Candy balm in Papaya. Let’s see how this one goes…

Kelsey Avatar

Josie Maran 100% pure argan oil… I went for the smaller bottle of the light formula because the original made me greasy in store and I didn’t wanna spend 60 bucks on something that I don’t know will work for me. I only just started using it, but so far, I’m sold. I use a daily salicylic acid wash with my clarisonic so I get REALLY dry… and 4 drops of this oil 2x daily almost immediately relieved the cracked dry skin around my nose and the scaly patches on my jawline. Once I run out (in like a year) I will definitely be buying the big bottle… unless something drastic happens between now and then.

Lauren Avatar

I bought 3 items in December due to hype basically at the same time: (1) Naked 3, (2) Lorac Pro, and (3) Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder. I like all 3, especially the Hourglass powder.

Meghan Avatar

I’m on my second tube of Hydraluron and I’m just not sure how I feel about it yet. For some people it seems to make such a huge difference. But I feel like it’s never made that big of a difference for me, even though I use it twice a day. Regardless, I’m still using it 🙂

Lisa Avatar

NARS Taj Mahal…..Don’t get me wrong its gorgeous but for it to work for me, I have to add a matte blush because it highlights my pores so much. I got swept away with the “brown girl staple” and “every woc needs to have it. It’s one of my least used blushes.

Meghan Avatar

I would say the majority of purchases I make are because of *the hype*. I’m constantly on Temptalia, other beauty blogs & watching YouTube videos so I add a lot of things to wish lists all the time for make-up, skin care and hair products.
The most recent purchase was the Ciate Mini Mani Month advent calendar (first Ciate polishes for me), I’ve just heard so much about them mostly from British beauty v/bloggers. The advent calendar was on sale on Sephora.com so I figured this was my chance to check out a lot of products from the brand at once 🙂 Haven’t had a chance to play around with them yet so I’m not sure if it was worth the hype!

Nicole Avatar

Hourglass ambient palette – wasn’t sure at first but once I learnt how to use it, I can’t live without it!

NARS one night stand cheek palette – I haven’t even used it, I think I bought it because I liked the packaging of the palette!

Sonya Avatar

Naked 3, which I have barely used, but look forward to using… soon…

Tarte’s Off the Cuff Blush Palette – this thing is fabulous. One of my best purchases.

Revlon’s Just Bitten Balm Stains – these are amazing, and coincidentally I have a shade to match each Baby Lips Color balm I own – orange, bright pink, nude pink and cherry red.

Mary Avatar

I recently bought the MAC Matte Candy Yum-Yum lipstick even though it’s been around awhile. I usually am a more neutral color kind of gal. However, the pigmentation on this is great. It is a pretty shade, but really bold neon pink. I love it enough that I will find a way to make it work. Sometimes you just gotta say screw convention, you know? Performance was good too, only needing the slightest of touch up after meals (which is typical for me for anything other than stains). I didn’t find it drying to my lips, though it didn’t offer any moisture. Overall I am quite pleased with this pretty, bold lipstick.

Lori P Avatar

I’m a bit of a palette hoarder so I caved in and got the Naked 3, Too Faced Chocolate Bar and today just received Tarte’s Matte-ficent palette. So far so good on them. I also LOVE the Revlon Matte and Lacquer balms…that hype is definitely worth every penny I spent on them.

Nicole Avatar

I bought thr Nars Radiant Cream Concealer, too, but I got colormatched to the wrong color. Honey is too orange and dark for me. I am Deauville and Ceylon in Sheer Glow Foundation.

LunaNoix Avatar

MUA matched me and I got Custard. I was eyeing Vanilla and she said that it is too pink for me. I told her that I wear Gobi and Deauville and TM in Finland. Custard is too dark! Yes, it is yellow, and I can make it work even with Gobi, but just ordered Vanilla. Okay if you have time to work with it and it will be better for summer. Will see how Vanilla works, or even mix Custard and Vanilla?
And went for the hype and ordered Narsissist palette, even that it has gotten mixed reviews and I really don’t like pallettes. But there are too many colours like Mekong, Fez etc.that I had to get it.

Kami Avatar

I got Vanilla it is light. I went based on swatches that I saw online. I don’t have the foundations you are mentioning but as reference I am 118 in Mufe, 4-4.5 in Armani, 4N in Lancome Teint Miracle, 52 in Burjuois Healthy Mix Serum. My issue with it is that while it does cover I think I was expecting a more radiant finish as the name suggests. I find it a bit flat. Mind you I have very dark circles so for someone with dark circles not as bad as mine it will work better. Also even though it’s creamy I have dry skin and I need to make sure I really moisturize the area or it will not blend well. I have tried so far applying with fingers and brush. Will try Beauty Blender see how it works.

Celine Avatar

Tarte glamazon pure performance 12-hour lipstick in, “Foxy” Was very much worth it, I now want more shades in the collection. Really does stay put, the shade I got has a “wow” factor when you wear it and its not drying.

StrangeOne Avatar

Ben nye banana powder. It wasn’t the miracle worker for skin that looks dull with makeup (I think it’s better for darker skin) but great for under eye application. Most foundations and concealers end up looking ashy and grey over my uncle fester dark circles but this powder looks way better.

If I’m not wearing makeup I can still lightly pat the powder around my eyes and it gently makes me look less dead.

Naked 3! I’m happy that I got it on a bit of a sale and I like the shades. I use this palette pretty often. Just being the frugal person I am, I wanted to save more on it.

And the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. This was a bigger splurge for me. It’s lovely, but I haven’t been using it enough. Need to learn to use it better & wish my skin was in better condition. T.T
