Me too! I wanted that lip gloss so bad. It was my very first splurge and all the rave about Chanel lip glosses being not sticky at all. I wanted one which is sparkly and a little pinky and decided Bagatelle was it. The Chanel SA was a little reluctant to sell me it, she kept showing some other which wasn’t on my wish list…I should have listened to her. Now, I’m wanting to get the Chanel JC Espiegle but she’s against my choice…should I listen to her?

Tarte’s Maracuja Creaseless Concealer just did not work for me. I found it to be too wet and sticky. It never dried to a nice finish. I also found that none of the shades were quite right.

I’ve had a few disappointing hauls recently:

The Balm: Batter Up Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows — the formula was sheer and cheap. Instain blush — colours were completely different from how they were represented on the website, and the awful blendability was really not up my alley.

Almay: intense i-color defining liner. Sparkly eyeliner at at drugstore price seemed like a great idea at the time until the result was chunks of low-quality glitter landing in my eyeballs. The painnnn….

Revlon: limited edition Colorburst lipgloss in Embellished — the colour and sparkles were MINDBLOWINGLY beautiful in the tube, but the result on the lips was sheer, dull, patchy awfulness. Why oh why couldn’t this gloss have the opacity and true-to-tube beauty of every single other one in the line??

Covergirl’s new Bombshell Volume mascara was a flop for me. It looked so fab on Kandee Johnson, but it just doesn’t work on my lashes. Plus, I’m so mascara-brush klutzy that the short wands equaled me with mascara allllll over my eyelids — not a good look on me! Sticking with Maybelline The Rocket and Benefit They’re Real.

I think it must have been the Balm’s Balm Girls Lipstick in Ima Goodkisser. The colour is so pretty but the texture is so odd – it has almost a ‘curdled’ look. Perhaps I got a dud tube, but it certainly didn’t work for me!

Ilona Avatar

Absolutely agree! My mother gave me a giant bottle of it for Christmas. She loves it but I can stand it. It also does not offer any protection from the sun. Might as well not put anything!

While I didn’t exactly “buy” it (I cashed in some Sephora “points”), I’d have to say tarte Exposed. I had really wanted to try it, so when the opportunity arose to get it for “free”, along with several oyher tarte items, I jumped on it. However, it’s just too pink for my taste. My skin os so neutral that that the undertones of any product are amplified, and it applies as Pepto Bismo-pink on my skin. A sample of Lights, Camera, Lashes was also included, but I knew from past experience that wouldn’t work for me, either.

I’ve been pretty fortunate in that I know what colors I like, and what works for me, and I stick to the same brands that I know have been consistent over the years, so it doesn’t happen too often.

Oh, where to begin! Hourglass ambient powders – none of the colors looked good on me. Nars Loose Powder – the white color – looked chalky. The pressed version is a HG product. Guerlain Lingerie foundation is a so so fit for me. Marc Jacobs Showstopper lipstick – lovely color but bleeds after a few hours. The list can go on and on….

AngieButterfly Avatar

The HG Ambient powders didn’t work for me either. I have three, too. :/ The Dim one makes my face look dirty. The other two I have–Diffused and Mood–only work to bring color back to my face when my foundation is too light. Otherwise, they make me look more yellow/sallow or I guess red. Mad at myself for not returning them.

I would say , Thebalm meet matte palette … i dont know what wrong with it but i dont like it at allllll , too sheer for me 😀
and also MAC RIRI WOO .. too drying although am not getting rid of it but its not something which I see myself wearing too often considering i love reds

Didnt work out is a bit of an understatement. I had a HUGE reaction to YSL’s Youth Liberator Serum and Foundation. I love trying everything new on the market and loved the finish of the foundation. Boy did I learn my lesson. My face was covered in red itchy welts. Its taken weeks, a prescription steroid cream, Creme De La Mer, and First Aid Beauty to regain most of my face. Only two spots left to go. Funny how one persons HG can be someone else’s allergic reaction.

estee lauder lipgloss in violet rain….it just was too bright on my fair skin i felt like a barbie doll but then again some people like that 🙂 i like dark berry colors , sometimes you just gotta try new stuff though so i bought it. i stll put it on for fun at home but ive had it for two years only wore it once to work and people were staring at me all weird.

Chanel Spring 2014 L/E release. Out of it all only the cream blushes were a hit. And 4 shade eyeshadow pan was a dud for me. Its going back today. 🙁

Naked 3. It was nearly impossible to get it with it being sold out most of the time. I ended up ordering it at 4:30 am the day it became available at Sephora. When I got it, I found out it had whatever is used in some pinks and purple shadows that I.AM.ALLERGIC.TO.
Total bummer.

I’m having surprisingly good luck with my new finds lately (knock on wood). Things that didn’t work out were the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (broke me out in hives), Evening Primrose Oil (gave me nodular pimples), and the Sephora Sculptor makeup sponge (tore after only a few uses, and the blue dye comes off in water).

Meghan Avatar

I went through a tube of the Effaclar Duo & didn’t notice a dramatic difference like so many other people have proclaimed. Compared to the rave reviews about it, it didn’t deliver forme at all! I did work my way through the tube for a few months regardless. I felt it was too expensive to chuck or give away.. And I figured it may have taken a while (like a month) to start working but it just didn’t and I haven’t missed it in my routine at all.

Plurabelle Avatar

I think sometimes with expensive or hyped-up products people get a placebo effect – they want so badly for it to work since they paid so much for it that it actually does make a difference, or they imagine it does. Most of them only have pseudo-scientific evidence to back up their claims.

The Becca Mineral Blush in Damselfly. It just doesn’t really who up on my skin, which is unfortunate since I’m pretty light. I had it all built up in my mind especially after seeing someone use itin a YouTube video, the colour just wasn’t for me.

The Lancome Hypnose star mascara. I had the feeling that my eyes tend to tear after wearing it for a whole day.
For skincare it were the cleansing oils by Shu Uemura. I recieved uneven skin on my t-zone and some redness.

Melissa Avatar

Oh boy, I used that to set my foundation one day last month and had a HORRIFIC breakout afterwards. I blamed the foundation and returned it, but now I’m wondering if it was the lighting powder. I never used it on the entirety of my face afterwards just because I didn’t like the finish of it as a setting powder, but now I can’t be sure which was the culprit! :/

Jane Iredale cream eyeshadow – creased all over the place and made my eyelids stick! Jane Iredale is usually so good, so this was a disappointment. Luckily I bought it from Nordstrom, so I was able to return it.

The Real Techniques duo-fibre brush set – the small one’s too scratchy for my crease, the bristles on the mid-sized one just FELL OUT, and the big one’s all right but sheds all the time. What a waste. Also, the Maybelline Colorsensational lipstick in Velvet Beige. The colour is beautiful which is why I got it, but the smell is just nauseating – one whiff and I have a headache that lasts all day. I’m off all Maybelline products because of that. I also got a blush from Essence that was a fuchsia pink and I realised that fuchsia pink blushes have never looked good on me (warm NC40-42 skin tone). I could list about 40 more items which I recently threw away as a bid to reduce my makeup collection. Most were funky-smelling lipsticks…

I’ve had many. Mac’s Studio Fix foundation in NW18. Oxidized bad and by the end of the day, my face had more lines on it than a road map. Talk about emphasizing wrinkles! Also It Cosmetics CC cream- way too yellow and burned my skin.

JG Avatar

The Milani Liquid Eyes eyeliner pencils… I’ve heard so many rave reviews about them and I’m always looking for a super long wearing, cruelty free liner that’s cheaper than the UD 27/4 ones… they were great, pigmented and longwearing, but they irritated my eyes like no one’s business! My eyes are not particularly sensitive, but they were bright red and swollen by the end of the day.

Revlon Age Defying foundation and concealer. The foundation didn’t look very good after a couple of hours and the concealer was just too dark (I chose light/medium and it was too dark and too orange for me). I returned both. I might give the concealer another shot later on.
