Kat Von D Love & Fury (Adora) Eyeshadow Palette ($34.00 for 0.40 oz.) is a new and limited edition eyeshadow palette for the holidays that includes eight eyeshadows. There are five powder eyeshadows and three cream eyeshadows.

  • Albino is a sheer, shimmering silver-toned white.
  • Holy Bible is a bright blue-toned white with a metallic sheen.
  • Slayer is a bright metallic silver. This is a cream shadow, and it was a little on the drier side.
  • Glock is a darkened gray with a silver sheen.
  • Crucifix is a deep, dark black. It’s very creamy and smooth–it works well as an eyeliner in particular. This is a cream shadow.
  • Bloodletting is a burgundy red with purple flecks of shimmer. It is a little drier, like Slayer, but less so. This is a cream shadow.
  • Ace of Spades is a muted, gray-purple with soft violet flecksof shimmer. Just a touch sheer.
  • Oddfellow is a light gray-black with blue glitter flecks. This one was sheer and a little chalky for me.

The color scheme is very dark, foreboding, and it generally fits with the vibe I get from Kat Von D’s makeup line and the aesthetics of the range. If you love smokier looks, this is a palette with your name on it! It has four variations of silver/gray and then four dark, smoky shades.

I think the palette is decent, but I had a few issues with pigmentation on three of the powder eyeshadows (Albino, Ace of Spades, and Oddfellow). Oddfellow was the least pigmented and even looked it when swatched. It pops more when layered over the black base of Crucifix, but it’s hard to use on its own. Slayer is drier and the shimmer in the cream base makes it difficult to blend out evenly. Ace of Spades was a touch sheer while Abino was rather sheer. It’s more like a shade you’d dust over another shade because of the sheerness.

I like the concept more than the execution, just because for $38, there really shouldn’t be any sheer shades in it. I do, however, like that these are–essentially–the equivalent to eight full-sized eyeshadows, so you are getting plenty of bang for your buck. There are included brushes with the palette, but I don’t find them useful.

  • Product: 24/30
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: I would probably pass unless you really love all of the shades in this palette and don’t mind using darker bases to amp up some of the sheerer shades.

I want to love her stuff, I really do, but unfortunately I seem to have the same issues with her shadows. The liquid liners are fantastic, her perfumes are amazing, her eyeshadows are frustrating! I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this palette left something to be desired. I first got a palette of hers around the time her collection first came out as a Sephora Beauty Insider 500 point bonus & was disappointed but I thought maybe since it was “free,” that had something to do with it. But after trying this, and reading your review, I know I’m not nuts! I was expecting full-on opaque smokey loveliness, and I got tinted baby powder! Haha!

Not feeling this. This first three shades make me think of dated baby blue & silver eyeshadow, and the last four blended together would give you a black eye! (the red & purple make me think of bruises)

bloodletting looks amazing!!could you recommend some dupes?i don’t mind if its cream or powder as long as its the same or almost the same color.
thanks!!

Was the product new when you took the pictures? It looks cheap or used. I don’t like the way the powders are set into the metal cases, with some “spillage” to the sides. (Hope you know what I mean.) Doesn’t look like a quality product, unless it was used of course, then I can understand.

I have this palette, and I love it. Only downfall is that after a few weeks of having it the “albino” eyeshadow already broke down in pieces, and I wish Ace of Spades and Oddfellow had more glitters that they seem to have.
Other than that bloodletting is my fav. shade.

I have this palette and I use it, but I have had to figure out some workarounds… I use the darker colors wet (or else fallout is a huge issue), the cream ones last (or else they completely disappear), and I can’t just use this palette- meaning I have to use a mellower, nude color for a base and highlighting, or else it’s too extreme. I love the interesting colors and textures, but the quality of Kat Von D’s products haven’t impressed me… Thanks for reviewing this, now I don’t feel like I’m the only one who isn’t head over heels!

I like one or two colors but not something I would go out and buy. There is no way I would use all those white/silver shades. I do like the idea of the palette just not the execution of how it came out.

I love Kat Von D’s powder shadows but I find the cream shadows in her palettes dry out SO quickly. I love the look of this palette overall but I was disappointed that there were more creams because they’re basically useless 🙁

I just returned this palette to Sephora today. I found the eyeshadows terrible. Slayer was hard and I was not able to spread it on my eyelid. Crucifix and Ace of Spades looked both black on my eyelids, and the glitter seemed to have stayed in the brush. Holy Bible and Glock were the only ones that looked nice and pigmented. Love and Fury, True Love and Metal Orchestra are all awful. If you want to buy anything from Kat Von D, go with the shadow duos – they are excellent.

I would probably get this if it did not have so many cream shadows. The cream shadows in my kat von d memento mori and true love palettes dried up almost instantly. I can still use them if I really work at it, but they are really dry and cakey and hard to blend now so I don’t even bother with them. It’s a shame. I like the Kat von d palettes, but the cream shadows in them are horrible.

Take an eyeshadow brush, swipe it a few times on a Vitamin E undereye stick (about 3 bucks at a health food store), and work the brush into the cream shadow. This works on other brands as well.

I generally love the KVD palettes, but I skipped this one because it just wasn’t as good as the others. It was a shame because the ‘Bloodletting’ shade really was very nice.

Belinda Avatar

Aww, that’s too bad to hear it’s not so great. 🙁 The colors look so beautiful in the stock photos! Especially Bloodletting. Anyone know what a good dupe would be, particularly in powder form?

Bloodletting is gorgeous- too bad it’s cream. I love the two KvD palettes I own- Beethoven and Memento Mori. The only thing I don’t love from those two palettes is the cream shadow and since this is half creams I knew I’d be skipping it. I’m surprised about Oddfellow being sheer as well, because the shades in the palettes I have are plenty pigmented. They’re soft and easy to blend too.
