Illamasqua Raindrops Nail Lacquer

Illamasqua Raindrops Nail Lacquer (£13.50 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “sheer light grey” with a jelly finish. I loved this shade from the moment I applied it; this was actually my nail color of choice when I went to NYC for Fashion Week this past September (it had been raining quite a bit, so it seemed totally appropriate). It’s a semi-sheer, light stormy gray with flakes of light gray shimmer. I used two coats for swatches, and as expected, you can see the nail line, but I have worn it with three and four coats, and it is more opaque at that level. I couldn’t think of anything like this shade.

Illamasqua’s formula is one of my top five favorites, because it wears like iron. I wore Raindrops for my trip, which means I was nowhere near nice or delicate with my nails, as I was hauling heavy luggage and heavier camera equipment over a week. I didn’t even end up removing the polish for ten days after I had applied it, and there was hardly tip wear, like just barely. The formula has a great consistency so it flows evenly across the nail bed, and it’s not thick at all, so if you prefer more opaque color, you can easily wear three or four coats without compromising the integrity of the wear.

I’m hopeful that Sephora will add this color. It’s a cool grey, which looks great with my skin tone. Thanks for the review, Christine!

I find that you have to be really careful with the pale colors of blue , gray and green. Sometimes, instead of looking glamorous, they just make you look cyanotic!

I have Illamasqua Spartan – a gold glitter polish and I love it. Brilliant shine, unbelievable hold, multi dimensional glitter. Every Illamasqua nail polish is a winner. I might try this one, too.

Raindrops is my favorite “palate cleanser” nail polish. When I’ve had too much glitter, duochrome, or neon, I reach for this one. It’s like lemon sorbet between courses of a rich meal–light, wonderful, and refreshing.

Ahhhhhh! WANT! So many grey polishes just end up looking like concrete or clay on the nail, but this is gorgeous. I love a jelly finish, never seen a grey one before. Must find.

Totally off topic, or maybe not haha, umm would it be possible to show us what the polishes look like with each coat?
What I’m trying to say is, 1 nail could be one coat, another nail 2 coats and another nail 3 coats. Because sometimes I’ve wondered what they look like if it’s not 3 coats lol 🙂

I typically do two coats, unless it’s REALLY sheer and supposed to be opaque, then I do three but I do not do three as it should not be required of any polish. Similarly, polishes are, generally, not supposed to be worn with one coat, so I do not do that. Sorry!
