How do you decide what foundation to wear?
It usually depends on what I’m doing or where I’m going. If I’m doing a lot of lip swatches, I tend to wear a dewier, less matte/dry foundation since it’s easier to reapply and clean up the edges around my lips when it isn’t super dry. If I’m going to be outdoors for a long period of time, I tend to opt for long-wearing and more matte or alternatively, something ultra lightweight with very light coverage.
I only have one foundation (elf Flawless Finish) because it’s my holy grail! So, it’s pretty easy to decide what the wear. 😀
I only have two foundations. So it really is a matter of do I feel like this or do I feel like that. Both feel light weight on the skin. Both offer about medium coverage. Both contain SPF. It is just about what I feel like 🙂
First, where I am going because I typically do not wear makeup at home unless I am feeling the need to be creative and play around with my makeup.
Second, I base it on how much time I have to get ready.
Third, the temperature/weather/activity plays into my choice as well.
I’ve tried hundreds over the years from the highest of the highest end to drugstore foundations . I’ve been assessed by more professionals than I can count for a foundation match and not been happy with color match . I stick to Clinique Even Better in Neutral or Cream Chamois now . I seriously einder why it’s so hard to find a color match for a person ?
It depends on the time of year (drier skin in winter, oilier in summer) and how much sun protection I need (if I will be outside or if it’s sunny weather, IT CC Cream usually wins out, no matter what time of year). I don’t have a ton of foundations and often don’t wear any at all so as much as anything, it depends on my mood and also on what I’ve just recently bought (most likely to wear a new foundation because of the novelty factor). Right now, I’d give a LOT to be able to wear Dior Forever foundation but they seem to have pulled the formula I like (only the darkest shades seem to be available and I’ve tried 3 retailers). Apparently, it is being reformulated but I like the “old” formula but I only have 3 or 4 Sephora sample pots of it.
Mostly how much coverage I’m needing that day. My main one is pretty sheer, so I’ll mix in heavier coverage foundations if circumstances warrant. Weather can figure in a little, though it affects what primer I choose as much as foundation.
This is kind of funny, I suppose, but most of the time it’s just a matter of how lazy I am! If I’m wanting to play with an eye look, but not leave home or just putting on a little something to run a quick errand, I just use a CC/BB cream. It doesn’t require using and then cleaning a brush and that makes it seem faster and easier!
But if I’m going somewhere beyond the convenience store; I’ll opt for an actual long-wearing foundation. Well, *most* of the time, anyhow. For hot, humid conditions, I love Fenty ProFilt’r. And for dryer conditions, Lancôme Teint Idole 24HR Foundation or MAC Studio Sculpt foundation.
Therefore; weather/climate play a significant part, so does my mood!
My skin tone changes a lot from summer to winter. So my decision is mostly based on tone and color match. But I also choose dewy finish and moisturizing formulas in the winter. I also think about how much coverage I want based on the occasion (light for day versus full coverage for black tie events or photos).
I have two kinds of foundation: high end – for special occasions so I don’t run out of it too quickly (Clarins Everlasting foundation in linen – which is very sadly D/C and Chosungah 22 in Porcelain) and my ‘everyday’ foundation for most of the week – these are Rimmel Match Perfection in porcelain and the Elf Flawless Finish in porcelain.
I wear foundation every single day!
I only have one foundation at a time in my drawer. I’m currently wearing Tom Ford Traceless but I also love Clé de Peau Radient Fluid. They both work very well for me. Which one I purchase depends on the color of my skin at the time.
Depends on the season but since I tried my very first dewy Foundation Loreal Lumi I’m hooked on it. Started using in Summer but liking it in Winter also. For daytime I usually stick with Maybelline Fit Me! I’ll use in evenings too. Both of these I’m really liking so far. Both apply natural and not cakey at all I like it like light coverage. It really depends on my mood if I’m just staying home I let my skin breath and don’t not wear any. Also prefer that they include spf I rather use y own choice and don’t trust their spf is strong enough to prevent much sun damage.
the amt of time i have. less time – bobbi brown stick foundation. swipe and blend. leisure time – sisley oilfree foundation. shake, pump carefully, dip, blend, repeat.
also, if my baby boy woke up too early and ambushed me while i’m putting on makeup. if so, im left with one hand to do everything so even less bothered to do foundation. i’ll just swipe heavily with cle de peau concealer and go.
It mostly depends on what kind of coverage I need that day, and the weather/heat. Most days, I just wear medium coverage drugstore, either my e.l.f. Flawless Finish or BH Cosmetics Naturally Flawless. If I have lots of redness or a cystic acne attack, I go for a full coverage foundation, which right now is Lancome Teint Idole 24H Long-Wearing Foundation. If it’s really hot out, I go with a powder foundation. For travel, I take a stick foundation to avoid spills and to save space.
I think it definitely depends on what I’m doing and the condition of my skin! I have quite a few foundations – from dewy to matte, from light to full coverage! There are many days where I just mix and match! I start blending two foundations together if they both have something I’m looking for that day!
