How important is skincare to you?
How important is skincare to you? Are you vigilant with your regimen? Never been a big deal for you?
.
Skincare wasn’t on my radar until I was about 19 years old–that’s when I first started getting into makeup and learning that it’s important to remove all that makeup, too. I also learned that sunscreen is a must, and man, I wish someone had told me when I was like… two!
I always took care of my skin, but didn’t get into anti aging stuff until I turned 30. Yes taking care of your skin early is a must. You stop producing collagen in your 20’s. Moisturizing is the best thing you can do for your skin…along with spf and starting that early is key!! I’m a skincare freak!!!
More important than the makeup! A flawless canvas is the easiest to paint on.
It’s been pretty important to me recently. It wasn’t as much until after my skin basically exploded with acne and most of it is gone through diligence but acne scars remain 🙁 So I’m attempting to really clean up my face and get rid of the scars.
Plus I have bad wrinkles under my eyes from just 6 months of wearing contacts/no sunscreen so I’m attempting to find a good eye cream with sunscreen.
Yup. Since grade 7! Although I didn’t go into a routine really – it’d last a few months, I’d stop then start again kind of thing.
I have dry and acne prone skin. The dry part is so tricky – I can’t wash my face with cleanser more than once a day, turn off my heater, make sure to moisturize, etc! I learned that as my acne got worse from the dry skin ah! You live and learn I guess.
I always take off my makeup though. It’ll make me uncomfortable when I sleep because I can feel it so it doesn’t matter if I’m tired, OCD prevails! Haha!
I started using basic skincare when I was 12 I think and started using sunscreen religiously when I was 18 =)
Now I can’t live without an oil cleanser, regular cleanser, toner, moisturiser and sunscreen, oh dear
I never ever go to bed before taking all my make up off because I’m paranoid of getting break outs haha
I am pretty bad about going to bed without taking off my makeup, but i do wear sunblock every day. I do wash my face every morning and moisturize.
Skincare is probably more important to me than makeup – I have always spent a lot of money on good skincare. Living under an ozone hole in Australia means sunblock has always been a must – I will not leave the house without applying it all over my body. My mum has red hair and freckles, so her instinct was always to slather sunblock on me. I hated it when I was a kid because I thought it was ‘dorky’, and I wanted a tan like other people because tans are always fashionable and considered ‘healthy’, but I remember my mum really driving the importance of sunblock in by telling me about skin cancer and also pointing out people with really bad sun damaged skin and explaining how sun damage ages you and makes skin look uneven and leathery, and it put the ‘fear of god’ into me, so to speak!! I don’t think it is until the last 2 years that I have really started to embrace my whiteness, and I think it is becoming more fashionable. 5-10 years ago I would have struggled to come up with names of ‘pale’ celebrities (apart from Nicole Kidman), now I can name dozens 🙂
I was kind of a late bloomer with skincare but these past years I’ve been really paying attention to it, and I now have a routine that works really well for me – my skin has never looked better!
I still struggle with my skin care – I didn’t even start being interested until I hit 32 and saw some wrinkles in my forehead that others don’t seem to see. My obsession has always been with makeup!
Skincare is very important to me. I started using makeup when I went to college (only mascara and lipgloss, nothing fancy)but I start using foundation after I was 25 years. Skincare became very important for me when I was 19-20 years.I like taking care of my face, using day-night creams, masks and I always remove my makeup before going to bed. With time I started using products that can really make a difference and I did a lot of research about what ingredients should contain a good cream. When you are around 20 you don’t realize that skincare is that important but you are getting closer to your 30’s then you see the results. 🙂
hello!!! sorry this isn’t about skincare but i was so excited when i read it that i had to put it in somewhere! i was always confused by MAC’s NW/NC system, where what’s traditionally ‘cool’ in the makeup world is categorised as ‘NW’ in MAC, and i was just reading on wikipedia (very reliable, i know!) that it might be all topsy-turvy because MAC might employ the artist’s palette as opposed to the cosmetic palette. in the artist’s palette yellow is always cool and red is always warm, and i figured that made sense with MAC, especially as the name is makeup ART cosmetics (i think, bummer if i’m wrong there!). i suppose everyone might know this already, or it might not even be true but it explains it in my head now so i’m happy! sorry for hijacking the skincare thread! same for me about the suncream though! i’m about NW10 and i got such bad burns when i was younger because i was a bratty child who refused to wear horrible sticky lotions! i have stuff called Riemann’s P20 now, though, which dries absolutely non-sticky and clear and is so awesome! for skincare routine, which i definitely do every night otherwise my face goes disgusting and lumpy, i have to use aqueous cream for cleansing and moisturising because everything else breaks me out in really bad acne. argh sensitive skin!
Yes! SO important!!!
I suffer from cystic acne, have had several treatments and had oily skin, dry skin, scaly skin (Dragon Lady, LOL!), redness, inflamation, infections, scaring, you name it, well, I’ve had it all.
I even had a nitric acid burn (accident at work) to the face once, that took 12 weeks to clear up so I learnt that looking after your face, keeping it clean, moisturized, well nourished and protected is pretty darn important!
And eye cream. Start using it before you think you really need to! Once those fine lines are there, they really aren’t going away again… I love my eye cream!!!
Absolutely important! Imagine pre-mature aging due to the nasty effects of the UV rays~ Sunblock & antioxidants are vital, ladies::~ I’m interested in SKII’s “miracle water” & then line’s famous masks to add on to my anti-aging skincare regiment tho::~ Christine, please verify it’s usefulness! Thanks! & has anyone experienced its anti-age effects~? I just know it’s moisturizing but how about its anti-aging properties~? Please share!
I have always believed that skincare is essential to good looking skin. Whenever I neglect my skincare routine my skin always end up looking horrible… which is why I still think good skincare is everything!
Well, I used acne products in my teens, somewhat sparingly. And had a deep clean soap that I used on my face. But real skincare didn’t really enter till I was 18 or so. When I actually started wearing makeup more regularly. I only really started worrying about moisturizer when i was, maybe, 20. And I’ve only really begun looking at different products since 21(I was using the Aveda one for sensitive skin and loved it-until my skin randomly decided it was allergic to it. now, if i use even a TEENY amount of it, my face SWELLS to the point where I can’t open my eyes). A few months back, I got a night cream sample from sephora that has turned into my daily routine, and a few weeks back, I got the Neutrogena Wave(can’t afford a clarisonic, LOL). Thats not daily, but I do love the effect that that strong of an exfoliater has had on my skin.
So i’m gradually building up steps! Still trying to keep it simple though, and comparatively inexpensive, since makeup is my REAL love. That is all just for maintaining a better canvas to apply it to, with fewer zits, swollen pores, etc.
It’s at the top of my list when it comes to my makeup routine. Your makeup just wont’t look as good without a clean canvas and the thought of going to sleep with my makeup on is just gross to me. It has become such a routine to me and that is the key to make it your ROUTINE that I can’t lay down in my bed without a clean face. Once my face is clean my day is over and I’m going to bed.
Not important at all. Anytime I try to use anything on my skin, it reacts badly. The only thing I can do is wash with cool water, and nothing else, not even soap.
Skin care is pretty much always on my mind. I have very dry skin and am constantly on the look out for products to help. I read books about skin to help me decide what kind of products my skin needs.
I am very fair. If I was in the sun for 10 min I can see a difference, so I wear sunscreen everyday. I also try not to be in the sun at all. But as a child, I didn’t wear sunscreen very often, and I feel like I am paying the price now. Thanks mom.
Skincare is very important to me, especially since I have acne prone skin. I feel like if I don’t wash my makeup off everyday then I will break out. I also like doing it because my makeup goes on smoother, and I wish just like u said that someone would have told me about the importance of skincare at a younger age, I’m only 20 but I should have started around 10!
Skin care is extremely important to me .. I have started cleansing , moisturizing and wearing sun screen when i turned like 15 or 16 .. because I had ( and still have ) a combination skin which has blemishes and all that ..
I think I must have been about 19 as well when I realized that I needed to take care of my skin better, So I started wearing foundation with SPF and making sure I had a good make up remover as well, and I love my Dior Duo Magique make up remover! I won’t use anything else!
It’s pretty much my number one priority in life! LOL! I just wish I had started taking my skin seriously a little earlier.
I would have to say that skin care is the most important to me. I have always washed off all my makeup before going to bed. Mascara is a must. I know someone who lost most of her “eyelashes” as a teenager as a result of not taking her makeup off. I always wear SUNSCREEN all over, hands are very important too!!!
Skincare has been a thing for me for about 6 years. It started being important when I got the usual teenage acne. I didn’t really have acne for very long, but now that I’m over that, my skin is very combination, with oily and flaky dry spots. I need to take care of my skin regularly, or the flakes will get bad, and I’ll have to work hard to it to go away. I’ve become a make up removal fanatic too, so my skin has to be clean and moisturized before I go to bed. I’m just trying to remember to put on my sunscreen, as my moisturizer doesn’t have any! Ah, one thing at a time, I guess.
Very!
it is v impt! i am in constant search for the perfect cleanser that i can stick to but alas have not found it yet. altho i do use the tube(watever brand i’m using) until it finishes unless it makes my skin dry to flaky.
and i agree with you, i wish someone has taught me to use sunscreen and other skincare advices!
Skincare is more important to me than makeup!
you took the words right out of my mouth! haha
Skincare is extremely important!!! I stopped tanning at age 13 (not a popular decision back when pale = sick) but I’m thankful I did. Sunscreen is a daily ritual for me, and I guess it’s paying off. I’ve had several people think my 15 year old son was my younger brother LOL 🙂
I’m extremely vigilant about skincare and always had sunscreen on. I saw a documentary on Dateline when I was younger about the dangers of excessive sun. They compared the skin of a Buddhist monk who stayed mostly indoors to a sunworshipper in her 50s. I was shocked! Ever since then, I’ve always had a good skincare routine.
It is soooo important to me. I don’t smoke, I avoid the sun, and I only drink alcohol once in a while.
I drink a lot of water, and recently I’ve been making sure I’ve been taking better vitamins beyond my normal multi-vitamin.
I’ve been using a retinol day and night cream, and have been exfoliating more… even the best makeup in the world won’t look good if you put it on a dry, puffy, rough face.
Very. I had acne issues starting around 11/12 years old. So I started up with lots of Benzoyl Peroxide and various types of skin cleansers, followed by a light application of Oil of Olay. As time grew on, I realized that by looking at family, my skin could be great. Specifically looking at my grandma, aunt that lived in the sunshine, aunt that stayed away from the sun and mom who went in the sun but moderately. I know if I go out in the sun a lot, I’ll end up several shades darker and with lots and lots of freckles. So now, its sunscreen and a skincare line that is balanced for my skin. 🙂
Skincare is extremely important because it’s always nice to have a great base for makeup. However, it’s so hard to find a good routine to work for you, I feel like I am constantly searching for that HG skincare routine.
I don’t really wash/hydrate my face as often as I should. I guess it’s because I always had a great sking without breakouts. But sunscreen is always a must for me. When I was 17, I didn’t really tought about re-applying it on a day under the sun, but after beeing burnt, I always reaply load and never go under SPF 45.
Same here! I only started caring about my skin when I turned 19, shortly after I began getting into makeup/feeding my obsession. I don’t go to sleep with makeup on anymore (I wish I could’ve made that clear to my younger self), I exfoliate my skin and I moisturize twice daily.
It’s crucial for me. Didn’t get focused on it until I hit 30, but I never spent a lot of time in the sun. I’ve sworn by Clarins all these years and my skin is way better than a lot of women who are 10 years younger. Still, you can’t turn back the years with skincare alone- gotta eat right, get plenty of rest, etc. etc. 🙂
Since I’m in my 30’s now…very! I still have very oily skin and am prone to breakouts, but still want to prevent those pesky lines and wrinkles. Boo wrinkles.
It never use to be, but I have acne prone skin, and as soon as I started taking care of it with a regimen my acne cleared up. If I skip a day I automatically see pimples coming back, so its definitely a must for me now!
The most important thing!
It is very important now I am 34, I try to take care of my skin as much as possible. But in my teens and even early twenties it wasn’t, I even went to bed not having removed all my make up a lot of the times! :O Now I cleanse, moisturize, exfoliate, etc. etc. all the time. 🙂 Need to pay more attention to sunscreen though, especially when it’s not summer, I tend not to bother in spring/autumn.
Ya…me too! I didn’t start to remove my make up until about 18 or so and I never wore sun screen. Now I am panicking at all the previous damage I’ve done! Now I am very religious about moisturizing and removing all makeup!
My skin is my canvas!! I take the best care of it I can 🙂
Ever since I turned 23 last year my skin is getting to be on the drier side. before this I was totally oblivious to skin care. Now I have started to pay attention to a thing called moisturizer. lol.
Skincare has ALWAYS been important to me; I remember going to the NYC Bloomingdales with my mom at 11 to get my first Clinique set. I also always wear sunscreen…. I’ve seen the awful after effects.
Christine, what do you wear for a facial sunscreen? I love Clarins because it doesn’t break me out, but at $40.00 for a small bottle, I’m still on the lookout for a good sunscreen.
I swear by Clarins for facial sunscreen too. I’m willing to pay the price for it, but if there’s anything that goes on so weightlessly and non-drying or clogging, I’d be interested to know too.
Agreed!
Skincare is #1 on my list!! Having good skin to me is super important. I feel like if my skin doesn’t look good then my makeup doesn’t look good.
It’s like having a rough canvas when you’re painting. And that does not turn out pretty.
I had acne so i’ve been taking care of my skin since I was 12 and my grandma taught me how.
extremely important… if i miss a step of my daily skincare routine I feel kind of naked… it only takes like 5 minutes total but i still find it hard to understand how some people I know only realized the importance of taking care of skin in their 30’s!! crazy, right?! 🙂
when the people in who are now in they’re 30’s where kids/teens, there didn’t seem to be as much of a worry about skin and sun damage.
It was the 80’s, all about the fitness club, miami beach look. I know, I’m one of them, but I’m a lucky one who didn’t get too much damage when I was younger.
I’ve been using sunscreen since I can remember (because I tend to burn very easily), and I’ve been using cleansers and toners daily since my mid-teens.
I’m in my early 20’s now, and I started using some anti-aging products (such as moisturizers and eye creams) about a year ago. Since acne really isn’t a problem for me right now, I figured I should start to prevent problems I might have in the future.
Anyway, skincare is so much more important to me than makeup could ever be. There’s seriously nothing like feeling confident enough to step outside without wearing any makeup.
I completely agree with you that nothing is more gratifying than being able to step outside the house without makeup! I know I’m only 19, but I seriously never wore sunscreen until last year (I only wore it when I went swimming), and I used to be a sun worshiper. Then, I realized I was exposed to the sun everyday once I go outside. I’m now looking for a good organic sunscreen and never go under direct sun sans protective clothing (hat) anymore. I guess the thing that motivated me was seeing all my aunts in their 40s getting terrible sun damage splattered all over their cheeks. Other than that, I do think that eating right and exercise is more important than skin creams. Since I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I try to keep my skin as nice as possible so I can continue the non-makeup routine, by stocking up on loads of rosehip oil and organic cleansers & lotions.
Skin care is very important to me. I’m more into getting my skin to look good so I don’t have to pile on foundation to try to cover it. Foundation can only do so much to help before it starts making thing worse.
Skin care is very important for me, as I am very fair and have rosacea but also prone to breakouts. Cleanse/tone/SPF all with gentle products. My struggle is finding a light moisturizer that doesn’t clog pores!
I think skincare has been important to me since I was in junior high :). It’s especially important to me now. I didn’t have a huge problem w/ acne when I was a teenager, but I did have a problem w/ adult acne that seemed to come out of nowhere. I used acne products for 2 yrs. straight, which irritated and dried out my sensitive skin. Murad worked the best for me and now I use moisturizer all the time. I wash my face w/ a gentle cleanser in the morning and the Murad cleanser for acne prone skin in the evening to keep my skin in check. I also think it’s important to use an eye cream in the morning and at night because the under eye area is so sensitive.
Skincare is super important to me,and what i splurge on the most. i started with skincare when i was 12 and now im 18! i use SPF every single day,and i make sure to remove all my makeup before going to bed.I try very hard to care for my skin (face and body). It is the largest organ in the body so i try to pamper it 🙂
I recently bought clinique 3-step because i’ve been breaking out lately
I’ve been wearing sunscreen since elementary school because my mom made me and it’s been my ritual since. I’ve been getting in more expensive skincare products lately when i was in my 3rd year in college when I noticed the things that I use to wear stopped working. I now have super dry skin–still figuring out the perfect skin care regimen.
well…it’s not important to me at all. when i remember to wipe off my makeup i do, and sometimes i wear sunscreen. i’m so lucky though, i’ve never had the typical teenage acne. thank god! i don’t wash my face either. maybe i should.
It was never a big deal to me until a few years ago. I was about 23 or 24 before I actually bought a proper face wash to use every day in the shower! And it’s been only the past year that I’ve been using a moisturizer every day. I was very late to the skincare game, obviously!
I spend as much $ on skincare as I do on makeup, which is probably too much, lol. But skincare is so important. I am only 22, but have recently started using good eye creams and night creams, while I have used cleanser, toner, and moisturizer since I was 13. SPF is also a must! Especially because I am so fair. I love the bronzed look, but I don’t want to have to pay the price for it with wrinkles and uneven skin in a few years.
Skincare is the 1st step on my beauty regimen since I was 12! I am always looking for the latest developments on skin treatments, sunscreens, night and eye creams, etc. No make up will look good on a skin that isn’t taken care of. I want my skin to be like a flawless canvas so my makeup looks superb!
i feel like i have always been interested in skincare because i have such sensitive skin, but lately i’ve really gotten into it!! i’m 24 now, and just like others, i wish i would have worn more sunscreen back in the day! i mean, my skin’s not horrible now or anything, but i’m paranoid to see if i did any damage in the future!!
I think is really important, but to be honest, don’t take the time to do everything I should, mostly the must, like exfoliate, lotion, sun protector…
Very important. I just started wearing sunscreen too. I spend more money on skin care products than on make-up and I don’t always really care for new make-up that comes out but I do get excited if new skin care products come out and especially if it gets great reviews.
I always used some skin care products but didn’t really get into the anti-aging stuff until at least mid-30’s. I used to be a “sun worshipper” but after seeing some of my friends get skin cancer I haven’t done that for a long time. I try to always take my makeup off no matter how tired I am. I keep Neutrogena Cleansing Towelettes on hand especially for my lazy days as they seem to take everything off for me. No matter how tired or sick I am, I never skip my eye cream. I am definitely spending more on skincare then I used to — if I find a product that I feel really works well I feel it’s worth it (within reason). They best time to start taking care of your skin is before you think you need it.
I am always working hard to perfect my regiment and this started after I had gotten cystic acne about a year ago. I never had skin problems before that incident, but the breakouts had me worrying over my skin. I want my skin to look nice all the time so I try to avoid mishaps and problems…as humanly possible. Skincare is just as important to me, for my face as well as my entire body, as makeup. 🙂
I hadn’t had any issues with my skin when I was in high school so I didn’t pay much attention until about 23, when I started getting dry skin and break outs at the same time! Since turning 30, skincare has become more important than ever. It’s better to prevent then try to repair! Especially if you have dry skin when you are younger, you have less moisture and wind up looking more wrinkly when you are older. I have 3 generations of women still alive before me to see how it progresses!!
it´s a religion, it doesn´t matter the hour, the place, the heat, well… is more important than make up… ok… to me is more important that everything in your makeup routine
Skin care is the single most important thing to me. It’s always been on my radar, but in this last year (in which I turned 27), I became a fanatic. My skin is fair, slightly ruddy, and extremely dry, so sun protection and moisture are key, as are loads of antioxidants. And switching from a manual scrub to an AHA serum has really made a difference in evening out my skin tone.
It is very, very important for me to take care of my skin. I think I’m obsessed with it. But it’s also because I’ve never had a problem with it when I was younger, and I only started to have problems two years ago (when I was 28, sucks to be old 🙁 ) And I just started using Juice Beauty Green Apple Anitoxidant Serum, and after a week, my skin feels sooo soft.
Skincare didn’t hit me until I was getting seriously bad pimples at 15. It was pretty bad and I had to start on a skin care regimen.
So now I MUST go to bed with a clean cleansed face before I wake up the next morning with pimples! And I realize how bad it is to not take care of your skin. I learned a lot from how important it is to exfoliate, makes such a huge difference in my oily skin!
It wasn’t really too important to me until the last couple of years. Through high school I just used basic drugstore products, and mostly oil-free and acne treating stuff. But as my skin has become more and more sensitive and developed issues (like redness and dry patches) I’ve had to become more diligent about proper care, especially SPF since I live in Hawaii!
I did not get into skincare until last year (coinciding with my addiction to makeup). I’ve always had an oily T-zone so when I started to wear makeup more frequently my T-Zone started getting oilier. I’ve been experimenting with products since then to figure out which regimen works best with controling my oily skin. I am still trying to figure it out!! Thank goodness for Sephora’s VIB discount and skincare challenge!
Skincare is more important to me than makeup — no amount of makeup will make me feel good if my skin is acting up. It doesn’t hurt that I spent my 20s as a goth, so I hid from the sun and wore high-SPF sunscreens. 😉 Now that I’m over 30, I don’t leave the house during the day without SPF 30 on my face and I don’t go to bed at night without a retinol on my face.
