How has your hand care routine changed over the year?
Well, I went from barely having one to definitely having one. I try to remember to use cuticle oil as I’ve had a lot of cracking/peeling in that area over the last few months, though I am not as consistent as I need to be. I regularly use hand cream–usually before bed–and am definitely more consistent there than at any point previously.
Definitely washing hands more than I ever have, so more lotion in general. At night I use O’Keefe Working Hands, the one in the tub, because it’s really the only thing that helps heal the cracks I get on the tips of my fingers and keeps my cuticles moisturized. I have used cuticle oil/balms in the past, but they just don’t seem to do anything for me.
Definitely have never washed my hands so much as I have since COVID started, but I’ve always been a dry skin sufferer for my hands. I moisturize them several times a day and really love Margaret Dabb’s Fabulous Hands lotion. Crazy expensive, but the bottle lasts forever and it makes my nails less brittle. Also like O’Keeffe’s, and L’Occitane shea butter hand cream. L’Occitane 25% shea butter cream is great for dry skin, although again, very spendy! It makes a huge difference on my hands and feet though.
My handcare routine remained the same through the past year. I mean… even before the pandemic I was washing by hands with due diligence and I was carrying around hand disinfectant; so a good handcream is a must.
I always have a handcream on my desk, which I apply any time I feel my hands dry. The only difference since working from home is that I use my regular body lotion instead of buying a separate hand cream. Before going outside I apply SPF on my hands. When I’m out and about I always carry a mini hydrating SPF cream to re-apply each time I clean my hands.
In the evening when I apply my skincare, I always massage on my hands whatever product leftover.
I don’t do my nails (I like them naked) and don’t feel the need of a cuticle oil or things like that.
One funny thing your image remembered me of.
In March 2020, when our offices closed for what was supposed to be 2-3 week, I was using a travel size of the Creme de Corps as hand cream. I left it on my desk. I only went since then once at the office, when we briefly opened offices mid-summer. The hand cream was separated and so gross… guess that’s why they say use in 12 months from opening. 😆
Thanks to some eczema and callousing, plus this being a far less humid season now, my poor hands are in rough shape. And so I use a combination of Amlactin Rapid Relief Alpha-hydroxy Therapy Lotion followed up with Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream.
I have to confess I’ve never ever had a “hand care routine” per se… I put on my hands whatever I put on my body and my face, does that count…?
There was a time, back in the day, when I moisturised a lot with either one of Occitane’s hand creams or the Moringa one from The Body Shop, but mostly because they smell so luscious! I enjoyed sanitising my hands and putting on a nice cream to “end the day” before getting the tube.
It’s been a while since I used a proper hand cream. I can’t say my hands have ever felt that dry in order to “warrant a routine” even though I usually put pure alcohol on them. Wahey! Somewhere where I can save! hahah
Holy Moly, has my hand care routine changed so, so much over the past year! Like most people, all that hand sanitizer use has wrecked my hands, so it’s been really important to me to keep my hands in some kind of shape.
Firstly, I have been using gloves for the dishes – the hot water really irritated them.
Secondly, I started using a number of different hand creams – CeraVe’s moisturising cream morning and night, plus Graham’s Eczema cream as well – often during the day too.
My hand care routine hasn’t changed at all since the pandemic started. I’ve always washed my hands quite often though I’ve not used hand sanitizers since my working days the way I do now, so OK, that’s new.
My hand have always needed to be a bit pampered with hand cream as soon as they feel a bit dry. I have a tube in every room, and one in the car. If I’m going out for a longer period of time, I take a small tube with me.
The skin around my nails get super dry, so I need to pay a lot of attention to cuticles and fingertips, or they get cracked.
