How good are you at identifying what makeup someone else is wearing?

How good are you at identifying what makeup someone else is wearing? Share!

Not great! There are just SO many products and brands, and if you start layering, the possibilities are endless! I can definitely take guesses and even make suggestions of products that look similar, but it’s hard to be right unless there’s a way to narrow it down (e.g. you know the person almost always wear a specific brand).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I definitely can’t and it seems impossible to me because, like you said, there’s SO many different products out there. Unless it’s something super unique, there’s no way I’d be able to just guess it.

Excuse me, but Thierry Mugler’s perfumes are NOT awful. 99% of the time, the perfumes tend to wear the wearer instead of vice versa. They are perfumes with a personality, a strong personalities, so it does take someone special to wear them with aplomb. If you look at their notes, you can see some genius and minute detailing given to ensure each unique note compliment each other. They are definitely not awful, maybe they are not your cup of tea but the Mugler perfumes need to be used with finesse and not many of the wearers actually know how to do it imo. 🙂

Thanks Deepa, I’m a big fan of Thierry Mugler’s perfume. I have Angel, Alien, Innocent and my favourite, Womanity. I suppose perfumes as in makeup, they all smell or look different on each person.

Pretty good as long as you keep it to one brands (for counter sales associates, etc). But when multiple brands are involved then I start to get confused.

I have only guessed right a couple of times and its only because they made comment on my makeup and i told them what it was and they buy it and try it out and looks great on them.

I can’t discern brands because of the sheer magnitude and also the fact that the same product can look quite different on people due to application technique, facial features, and coloring. What I can usually easily recognize , though, is the general quality of products which narrows the field a bit when determining which brand is being worn. The only time I find it super easy to recognize a brand is when a particularly innovative/imaginative product has just been released and everyone is buzzing about it. Because my attention is focused on it, it is very easy to recognize it on another person.

That’s exactly where the question came from; after looking a swatch after swatch of certain lipsticks eg MAC’s Ruby Woo or Riri Woo or Rebel I started to feel like I could spot it on someone on a blog (but not in person) lol

Not at all, if there’s something I like, I simply ask. My friend had on gorgeous pinky beige lipgloss and I asked her where she got it. It was a $3 beauty supply store brand, but gorgeous.

Are you kidding me? I would probably have trouble identifying what I am wearing if I can’t look at those little itty bitty labels with the microscopic printing on them (why do companies DO that?!)

Macama Avatar

I was only able to do it once. My friend got her make up done at Sephora for her graduation and I guessed her blush and eyeshadow brands correctly. They were popular shades though, Benefit coralista & smashbox eye trio shadows)! Most of the time, though, not really.

I thought I was alone in this but I’m glad to have company in not being able to identify most of what people wear on their faces. About the closest I get is identifying when someone is wearing a lip color that I own. With so many great dupes I don’t see how you can tell what’s what.

Not only am I no good at identifying what makeup someone is wearing , I actually don’t care enough to even bother trying! Too many brands and products make this an impossible task! Obviously if someone is wearing something absolutely knock out gorgeous then I’ll have no qualms in asking them what they are wearing. Cant remember the last time I did that tho’…

Not a chance of Identifying products and rarely colors. Usually a lucky guess. I can tell those who seldom wear makeup and have no clue as to color or application.unfortunately.

I definitely can’t, but whenever I wear MAC Ruby Woo lipstick a lot of people (who don’t know me!) know right away what lipstick it is and will compliment on it. Then again, Ruby Woo is very special -extremely matte, and a very vibrant red that looks almost neon under certain lights.
