How do you wear a dark lip?
How do you wear a dark lip? What do you do to your eyes/cheeks?
My favorite way is to do a shimmery nude eye with plum cheeks!

I don’t necessarily “go easy” on the rest of the face (in other words, wear lighter colors). I don’t think value matters so much as hue. Um…am I talking in pixel speak? ha ha.
Shimmery champagne/nude eyes, plenty of mascara, and cheeks with the same undertone as my lip.
I usually wear dark lips to match my dark eyes. NO NUDES for me LOL I rarely wear nudes and they must be shimmery. LOL
Is it even possible to wear dark lips, when you’re a NC20 (with light blonde hair)? 🙁
Only on Halloween
I tend to wear a fuller coverage foundation since the bold lip is bound to draw attention to my face. I pair my dark lips with black winged eyeliner, nude or no eyeshadow, 5 million coats of mascara, and my favorite plum blush (MAC On A Mission).
I like lots of smudgy black eye liner and champagne highlights all over the cheeks, forehead and brow with a matte dark lip.
With a glossy dark lip, a smokey eye in greys, browns or a shimmery color like Blue Flame and some color on the cheeks is what I do, if I’m not just staying bare on the face.
nude eye with winged liner and loads of mascara. very very light flush on cheeks.
Can someone recommend a pretty plum cheek color?
I really like MAC Sheertone Shimmer in Flirt & Tease – I find I have to apply it quite lightly just back from the apples of my cheeks and blend forward though.
And although I don’t own it myself (but I have swatched it), Plum Foolery is quite pretty as well, a little pinker and less dusky that F&T.
If you’re after a cheaper option (which is just as good as MAC in my opinion!) Jordana powder blush in Blushing Rose is a nice deep, gold shimmered red toned mauve, though I think it runs more raspberry than plum.
I don’t like the look of a dark lip on myself but if I’m doing a red lip I do a pin-up style eye look.
I like to keep the rest of my face neutral, but defined, so I contour with The Perfect Cheek blush (very light pinky taupe), use a natural looking pink blush (Dainty) the apples of my cheeks, then I’d probably use something like Lithe or Naked pigment on my lids, with Wedge in the crease, line the waterline and lower lashline with Urban Decay Underground liner, tight line with Zero, and plenty of mascara.
I find a dark lip very hard to wear with a light eye, so I either wear winged liner or a smokey look. I don’t believe in the so called rule of putting all the color on only one area.
But I go lighter with the blush, though, or that would really be too much.
Umm, depends. Sometimes I like a complimenting colorful look cause I want it bold anyway lol, but mainly a neutral matte eye with a slight shimmer on my brow bone and the tear duct area, flushed cheeks with a neutral cheek highlight.
Matte skin, winged dark liner and very subtle blush. I’m fairly dark so it never looks OTT.
I looks to gothic on me, as I’m quite pale and look even paler with dark lipstick(no matter how subtle my eyes are). when I want “dark” I do a classic red lip or a mid-berry-tone.
I like to keep my eyes neutral and classic with dark lipsticks. I either wear neutral matte shades or shimmery shades in gold, peach or brown, depending on the lipstick colour.
Flawless skin, a very light eyeshadow, lots of separating mascara and a neutral hue on my cheeks.
I like wearing a dark lip with only some black mascara and a very subtle blush. When I go dark on the lips, I like it to be the focus of the look.
Black eyeliner on my upper lashline, with those “catwings”, or what they are called. Much black mascara, maybe some descrete shimmery eyeshadow.
Nothing around the eyes but concealer, loads of mascara, a light blush and contour, and a BIG BANG lip colour that will rock the core of the world! Something dark, even, like MAC viva glam 3. Love that one. Or a Dark red that looks almost like blood, but with a matte finish. That’s for daytime.
For night time, same as the above, but with almost nude eyeshadow, a bit of highlight, and contour colour for the crease, just to give the eye some colour. Then add on dark lipstick; I prefer a matte finish because they seem to last longer, but if I wear something that has a slick gloss finish, I powder it to set it so that it doesn’t budge.
I love dark lips, even if my mom thinks it makes me look like I’m going out for a night out. It can look sophisticated and professional!
I don’t wear dark lip very often (don’t want to scare the children at school, lol), but if and when I do, it’s either with neutral eyes or grey/silver eyes.
I do it the same way, a nude eye. The same, for the most part, applies to when I do bold or bright colors as well. When I wear a bolder color like I Like It Like That, I do a nude eye and use Summer Rose beauty powder — it’s the perfect lip / cheek combo.
I have been described as your average Snow White. Very dark hair, very dark eyes, pale skin and pigmented lips. I can pull of a bold lip any day of the week no matter what else is going on with the rest of my face. I have problems pulling off a nude or light lip most of the time.
I don’t!
My favorite way to wear a dark lip depends on its finish- for a super-glossy vampy lip, I like to keep the rest matte and a little gamine-like, with the emphasis on definition- the lightest berry or petal pink cheek stain or blush, precise black cat-eye, white/beige eyeliner on the lower waterline, long lashes, and the subtlest silvery/white sheen of a highlighter at the top of the cheekbones, in the cupid’s bow, and just under the lower lip. For a matte dark lip, I like a more modern, minimalist face with the emphasis on luminous skin: very defined brows, dewy finish foundation, mega-glowy highlighter on the high planes of the face, glossy/shimmery/glittery black tightlining, and super-subtle cheek contouring.
A dark lip is my favorite lip to wear, but it’s a lot of maintenance. I’m always worried about if it’s smeared or needs re touching. But when I do wear one I try to wear nothing but neutrals on the rest of my face. For instance if I wear a burgundy or brown lip I will tend to reach for my UD naked palette or other colors close to it.
I like doing a pinup look with dark lips. Very light on my eyes flesh tone colors with a slight winged liner. I like to match the blush close to the lip color to really give it that pop 🙂
I wear dark lips a lot. Bright eyes, smoky eyes, nude eyes, any old way. I just prefer the contours of darker colors on my face.
I´d wear a smokey eye with only some countoring, or shit loads of eyeliner, glamourous false lashes, only light eyeshadow, some countoring and maybe some highlighter one the cheek bones. And of course, a dark nail! 🙂
When I go for a bold lip, I almost always do a vintage winged eye. MAC Painterly as a base maybe with some Ricepaper shadow and some black liquid liner winged to give my eyes a slight, mischevious slant!
I love doing a matte face, shimmery champagne eye with thin eyeliner. Medium toned blush to bring color to the face like light plum or berry shade. I like creamy dark shades to make it sexy and vampy. Love mac kittenish or nars strawb erry fields for a more wearable vampy look.
I love to wear dark lips with a lightly shimmery eye (MAC Lithe pigment) and a great winged out liner, and not necessarily in black, today I have on royal blue. Then lightly contour the rest of my face.
With a satin foundation (not too dewy), highlighted cheekbones, a little bronzer and a serious black winged out liner on the upper lid.
Generally I do a soft neutral/brown eye and lightly glowing cheeks, but sometimes I like to really vamp it up with smokey eyes and a dark lip 🙂
No othe rmakeup and bold eyebrows. Worn with minimalistic clothes (simple clotehs, not as few clothes as possible!). This may depend on the colour of the dark lip. Sometimes the colour will call out for film noir makeup. really depends.
With a lightly flushed cheek and next to nothing on my eyes — just mascara.
I don’t. I can do bright and I can do bold but a dark lip just makes me look terrible! (and old, LOL!)
A dark lip always looks best when it’s well balanced by the eye & cheek make-up.
Dewy skin with highlights on my cheekbones, brow bones, and the bridge of my nose. Light contouring on my cheeks but no blush and a dark matte red lip
I am much the same, darkish cheeks in a rose or plum with nude or champagne lids. Nothing too crazy on the eyes to distract from my lip color 😉
Generally a softer eye in terms of colour with some sort of winged liner, focusing more on contour/highlight than blush and flawless skin.
