How do you store your makeup?
How do you store your makeup? Do you use a vanity? Drawers? Bathroom?
I store all of mine in an Ikea Besta system that I customized to suit my particular needs for the majority of products I keep and use. Â I do keep items I reach for often (like foundation) in the second bathroom, which is where I do my makeup.
Thanks to Taylor for today’s question!

Those 3 drawer plastic things. A medium size for eyes, face, and random stuff. A small one for all my lippies. Glass cups for my brushes and pencil-form products. A sectioned organizer insert thing for palettes, most used blushes, foundations, and eyeshadow singles.
I pretty much do the same thing !!!
Right now I am currently using a couple of shelved craft containers from the container store. Im asking for a pro train case for my 21st bday in Sept.
I use those stackable 3 drawer plastic storage things from Target/Walmart. You can just keep adding more without taking up too much space since they are intended for office supplies. I use a plastic pen/pencil case with a hinge lid for brushes.
i store mine in a six drawer plastic cabinet from Office Depot
Me too. I think I got mine at Staples, though. I keep it in my closet and roll it out to my bathroom when doing my MU.
i actually just had a custom made vanity! my makeup collection grew so much that my old vanity wasn´t enough! I had this new one done with some drawers tall enough to fit lipstick and liglosses standing up! can’t wait for it to arrive
Wow, that sounds amazing! Enjoy it! 🙂
I have a NYX train case (the medium). I have a compartment for UD, one for Sugarpill and a couple random high-end brands, one for liners, one for lip products, and two for drugstore shadows. I store all my large palettes in the bottom along with my face products. It suits my needs perfectly.
When I bought the case (upgrading from an ancient and pretty small traincase–it was one of those Color Workshop sets Walmart sells for Christmas), it was so empty I wondered how I’d ever fill it. I both fear and look forward to the day my collection outgrows it.
I use four 3-Drawer clear boxes with round metal knobs from The Container Store(:
good topic! I store mine in an IKEA malm lingerie dresser with acrylic containers in each drawer!
My makeup lives in and around my dressing table. Foundation, powder, concealer and so forth are in the drawer under the top. Shadows, blush, all over face colours, lipsticks and so forth live in a couple of stackable three drawer components next to my dressing table. Glosses, eye pencils, corrector stick and brushes are in glass candle jars on my dressing table. 🙂
I have abeautiful, 6-drawer, red Helmer that is busting at the seams. Time to get a second one.
I have a red Helmer from Ikea too! I also need a new one by the end of the year I guess. Always a nice gift to get for Christmas…
an IKEA godmorgon box with compartments. it fits in my drawer perfectly and i just stuff all my makeup in there. All my brushes go into a simple mug and i i have an insert from the container store in another to house my skincare and such

not very pretty, but it gets the job done.
I keep soaps, palettes and random junk in the big drawers, and lip stuff and face stuff in the smaller drawers.
there’s a separate three drawer one that holds eyeshadows and backups, and an even smaller three drawer one with a flip up lid that I use for mascara, eyeliner and eye bases/cream shadows.
altogether, it’s taller than I am. 😛
Well the makeup I do not use on an everyday basis is in a pink and purple 3 drawer container on my desk and my everyday make-up is (I’m going to get murdered for this) in the bathroom on the sink in a purple case. Yes I know you are not supposed to keep make-up in the bathroom but it works for me and it is how I have always stored it.
I’ll be watching the comments with great interest, as I was just perusing the Container Store’s website this evening trying to figure out how to best get my cosmetics (and jewelry, too) into some semblance of organized!
…All over my floor. 😀
I have a little set up in the bathroom with my train case, a medium sized one that I fear I’m outgrowing. A little makeup bag containing various lippies, my travel brush roll, a vanity mirror, and makeup removal wipes.
I’ve been using the Ikea malm dressing table hoping the gigantic drawer would accommodate everything but no such luck. A little lost at what to do to stay organized….especially knowing many of the future collections are calling my name 😛 Thank you for all of the time you put into this site!
Right now I keep it all in a purse. Not a little makeup bag, but a legit purse. It’s too full, though. I can’t wait until I move into my new place. I’m going to spread a lot of it out on my dresser, and I’ll keep a lot of the items in mason jars and cigar boxes.
in a box….haha
I store everything in Ikea acrylic containers.
I have 6 of those stackable 3-drawers plastic containers lined up on my desk and one larger one for face/cheek stuff. I keep my brushes and eyeliners in Hello Kitty tin containers with beads in them. My palettes are put into file organizers.
I have my personal makeup in and around my makeup shrine: an antique dressing table. I have a tool organizer, that I bought at Lowes, that keeps things organized.
I’m currently looking for overflow storage, but I store all my makeup in/on my computer desk. My desk is slightly large and has lower-left storage in the form of a drawer and two book shelves as well as a hutch with two left book shelves and a flat top that serves as additional shelf space. That little drawer–bless it–is about to burst. All lipstick, lipgloss, pencil eyeliners, mascaras, pigments, and odds and ends are stuffed somewhat divided with bamboo drawer dividers from the Container Store. If I could find a home for my 150+ nail polish collection from the top of the hutch, I could buy some acrylic drawer units and move some stuff out of my poor drawer. My “dream storage” would be like the Hampton vanity tower set from PB Teen in black with the actual vanity wider, thus leaving room on each sides of the mirror unit for strip lighting. *Sigh*
Its basically all in one location but in different compartments. Majority of my makeup are in two ikea wooden drawer units. The brushes and lip liners and shadesticks all sit in 6 different medium pots. My everyday essentials like cream, mascara, gel eyeliner all sit in a black tray on the table next to the drawers, pallettes are in a basket stacked neatly, and backups are in a seperate drawer
My makeup collection is pretty small – It fits into this clear makeup organizer from The Container Store that sits in my bathroom (There’s no room in my actual room – is the bathroom really that bad?). It’s filling up pretty fast though – I’m going to have to get another one pretty soon!
It’s all over the place! The stuff I use most often is in my little bathroom in a tall but not very deep built in cabinet. Other stuff is all over the place – in a large dresser drawer, in a box in a credenza (that is mostly sample sizes that I use when I travel). I’ve started putting “2nd string/out of season” stuff in a large drawer in my daughter’s room (she has had her own apartment for 2 or more years now but it’s still “her room”; I’ve just stolen some closet space and a drawer!). I should get a rolling drawer storage thingy of some sort but I’m not sure if I could fit it in as my little bathroom really is “little”.
3 Muji 5-drawer containers and 2 clear acrylic systems that sit atop of the drawers. I can see everything clearly and know what I have at all times. It took awhile to figure it out, but I’m loving it!
I use items from The Container Store, Crate & Barrel, Target, and Walmart. I also have a few older storage items from MAC like their Carry All bag.
I use the hayworth vanity and lingerie chest from Pier 1 (the one Tiffany D uses) and then I have a 3 drawer plastic thing for makeup odds and ends
Oh, and some pretty cups from Pier one for brushes
I store everything in a vanity I custom made from an elfa system at the Container Store. The vanity itself ran me about $150, and then I got all cutlery trays that matched the elfa (white mesh) to hold and organize all the makeup inside the drawers. I have three elfa baskets hanging off the sides for hairspray, foundations, Fix+s, etc. On top I have my brushes, cotton pads, etc & a makeup mirror. It was expensive but I am in love! Putting on makeup, packing/unpacking and staying organized has never been easier or more fun!
i have plastic drawers to hold everything, then i have a box which sits in a drawer that holds the makeup i’ve been loving lately
The lest is stored in bins but I have a makeup bag that has all the makeup I use everyday which I what I also bring we me wherever I go.
I bought one of the white, gray and black 10-drawer carts from Office Depot that pretty much every beauty guru on YouTube seems to have nowadays! I like it despite the drawers being prone to slipping off the tracks. I live in a small apartment, so it stands in my “walk-through” closet near my bathroom sink, LOL! However, it’s far enough from the shower that I don’t worry about steam damaging anything. Every morning, I wheel the drawer trolley over close to my bathroom mirror/sink area, where I put on my makeup.
i store my make-up in my make shift vanity using my muji storage and jetmax storage system.
I broke down and bought a clearcube for my girly room! I absolutely love it!
i have a big box from tk maxx, think A3 sized full on other boxes to split things up into categories, its getting a bit full though :/
I store mine in a organized 6 drawer cart that u can wheel around. inside the drawers i have containers from target that are clear and long for blushes and then small square ones for eyeshadows.
I have a vanity that was my mothers that I use. It’s white and has 3 drawers on one side and on the other side it has a small drawer on top and it fits a chair. I keep palettes, brushes, and most used items on top.
I keep my collection in a little spinner from QVC, in lovely mugs and bowl on top of a dresser with my light up mirror and all 5 huge drawers of that dresser. And I am running out of room! Perfume is on my clothes dresser and lotions, bath stuff, face creams, etc. are in the bathroom cabinets. No MU in there, though!
I keep it in a makeup case next to my vanity ^_~
I use my desk as my vanity & to store my makeup. I organize it by type of product in little boxes/plastic dividers in the different drawers. The stuff I use everyday (foundation/concealer/primer) I keep on top of my desk in a cute little box for easy access.
Christine,
can you show some pictures of your makeup storage system? I would love to see!!!
thanks
I’m not currently sharing photos of it, sorry!
It would probably fill an entire 50 pages of photo shots on the web where you to share photos!
a tower of 6 plastic drawers, there great as they can be washed or wiped when dirty.
Mine is kind of everywhere. The stuff I don’t really need access to is in a metal kaboodle thing. I have things I use every day in a cosmetic bag. Makeup that I want to start using or only use on some days is in a tray in a drawer in my bathroom. And I have one of those little school supply organizers (little square cardboard box with an X divider) for brushes and lip glosses.
I organize my ‘collection’ in a large dresser drawer – however, I keep regularly used items in a cute makeup bag that I take out to the living room where I do my makeup while I drink coffee and watch the news in the morning… I am totally trying to streamline things – am loving it!
I have 2 acrylic cases that look like clear cubes I got from ebay… Then I have 2 sterilite 3 drawer organizers but you have to be careful with those… You need small individual baskets to stay organize or you will have a makeup mess on your hands… Well that’s what I do…
Currently all over the carpet. Wiping off all the powder from my side table I store makeup in its totally not working out. And tiny cardboard boxes. I have chanel lipsticks under the bed. Organizing is getting upsetting.
I store mine in clear shoe boxes and plastic totes. The ones I wear daily is out on my desk in a makeup bag.
Three-drawer plastic container that so many of us have. On the top of the whole thing I have my brush cleaner, brushes in a cup, and foundation. Top drawer is face products (highlighters, foundation samples, blushes, bronzer, concealer, primer), middle is eye stuff (primer, brow gel, mascara, eye shadows, eye liners) and bottom shelf is lip products. On the side I have my Naked Palette and MAC palette. I’m trying to keep my collection contained to that thing. I figure that can store more than enough of what I want, but keep me from getting too much at the same time! My nail polishes and nail-related items have their own plastic container…but that I might fill up soon lol
I have a giant, 5-drawer container that I split up by product type. Otherwise, it’s not very organized. I also have a small drawer thingy for glitter, samples, and liners.
I have a large black Caboodles train case to hold my make-up, and a large make-up bag to hold my eye make-up. I just pile my larger shadow palettes beside my train case.
I have it in every stock and barrel. Every nook and cranny. Some are in the refrigerator in baggies. Some are in a Caboodle container filled to the brim. Some are in the sterilite drawer. A big load of it is in a makeup luggage container style from the ’70s. Then the majority of the newer makeup is in the bathroom not organize in any manner except in baggies again and some in brand named cosmetic bags. Unlike Christine who is so organized, there is no rhyme or reason with my storage of makeup…except by the years where I hoard all this makeup for the past 30 years. I have more makeup in the refrigerator than I have food stored.
I keep tinted moisturizer, setting powder, UD BOS and Naked Palette, and all of my brushes (in a cup) on my vanity counter for grab-and-go days… everything else is in 2 large vanity drawers. The face drawer is shallow and wide, and since I don’t have TOO many products i kinda throw everything in there and it’s all still easily visible and accessible. The other drawer is lips and eyes (where i go crazy!) and it’s less wide and very deep-I have a ton of dividers sectioned so that i can visible see the colors of all my products (lipsticks upside down, liners sitting up, etc etc). I’ve also pressed all of my shadows and pigments into standard pans and put them in empty MAC palettes for easy access. I separated unopened dupes and things I grabbed in multiples during sales (2 for 1 mascara, clearance concealers, etc etc) and keep them in a big MAC bag under my sink. I also keep a cosmetic bag of basics in my gym bag (cleanser, liner, powder, a small quad, lip gloss, mascara) for when I shower at the gym and go straight to class =]
8 stack Drawers 🙂
My vintage caboodles from the late 1980s!
I have a Winners Only Roll Top desk that is all drawers at the top. There are pulls on the drawers where each can be labeled. There is also the mail organizer that is used for pallets. The bottom half of the desk is used for computer and office supplies. I had a small space so this combined 2 things I needed into one. I searched for a few weeks on craigs list for the desk. It is a large desk but it holds all of my make up and computer/office supplies.
Currently, I have a large built in 5 shelf cabinet in my tiny bathroom. I have most of my makeup there with a few things I store in cups and a loose bin on top of that tall cabinet next to my bathroom skin. Then there are other skin care products that I store away from the effects of the shower heat/moisture in the hall closet and a very few next to my bedside like lip balms, the last retinol night cream I put on last after everything else I am using that night have really penetrated. I have some AM anti puff eye cream at bedside as well as a deeper moisturizing eye cream so the latter is there when I wake in the middle of the night and find I am dry around the eyes or have been tearing a lot. I have yet another cupboard that is in a separate part of my house where all my nail polishes are stored together. I have WAY too much makeup and skin care and need to go through all of it and do a major clean out – taking what I can to the women’s shelter and also seeing what maybe I can offer up on MUA (once I figure out how to start using it that is).
Forgot to say that inside my unusual bathroom cabinet that is so not typical for the rest of my house that has only 2 drawer in the kitchen – I have like make up products stored in those shorter drawer type plastic sorter things…one with the blushes, one with the loose eye shadow pots, one with foundation products that are not mineral, one with mineral foundation type products and so on. The bottom shelf is a bit free for all with the charger for my Clarisonic, extra back up bottles of eye makeup remover and that kind of eclectic mess that never seems to find a place to live unless you do have a site like that.
I have a white mirrored “closet” type thing. It’s about 5’6″ and has a door (that’s where the mirror is). Inside it has 4 shelves which are tall enough to have those white 3-drawer containers. I keep all of my makeup in those (I have so much makeup that it takes up all 4 shelves and all 8 containers!) Each container is dedicated to something — one is for lip glosses and lip sticks (I label them and organize by color and if it is metallic, matte, or gloss) Then I have another for eyeshadows and once again label by color and if it is matte, shimmer, or cream, eyeliners come next, then mascaras, then blushes and foundations in another container. Foundations are organized by shade and, as weird as this sounds, by season. I label the darker shades for summer as I am usually nice and tan then, and the lighter shades for winter because I’m usually paler than a ghost! My organization techniques might sound pretty crazy, but it works for me and makes my makeup routine much faster!
