How do you keep your smile looking its best?

I regularly exfoliate and moisturize my lips, which helps to keep my lips from cracking–and in turn, it’s not painful to smile! Â I use at-home whiteners (Crest, Rembrandt, GO SMiLE, etc.) every 4-6 months to keep my teeth white(r).
Thanks to Sharlie for today’s question!

I’m a dentist so this question is fun for me to answer. Other than the lips, I keep my pearly whites bright and clean by having them professionally clean by my colleague twice a year. I even use the scalers to clean my front teeth. I floss daily and brush at least twice a day to keep the plaque away. I dont drink wine, coffee, coke or smoke which all stain the color of your teeth. If you must drink the above, use a straw. You can get ZOOM whitening done at the dental office or bleaching trays…which is more effective than OTC. I had both of them done also. And those tongue rings can cause you to crack your teeth thereby destroying your pearly whites….more dental treatment. And now there’s ortho and invisalign if you want to improve the smile….I also had braces as an adult. Even Hillary Clinton had new crowns on her front teeth….to replace those previously mismatched crowns. Use a red- blue lipstick to accent the whiteness of the teeth.
Thanks for the awesome topic! A few weeks ago I was taking some pics of myself and I noticed yellowing of my teeth near my gum line. I was horrified! So now I am using crest vivid whitestrips and they are awesome. All that yellowing is gone and my smile looks so much better. Also I exfoliate my lips with olive oil and sugar. Now my smile looks like a million bucks in pictures lol.
I always wanted to try Crest or something, but I heard that your teeth can be very sensitive, while and after using it. I have sensitive teeth as it is, so I am not sure if I should try it or not. Do other people have experiences with whitening products? Any recommendations maybe?
I didn’t have any issues with sensitivity, but I know others have!
I get some tooth sensitivity when I use whitening products. The kinds I have tried have had the option to either do the strips twice a day for 7 days, or once a day for 14. I go with the once a day option and that helps cut down on tooth sensitivity!
I also have sensitive teeth and I use the Supersmile system, which is a whitening toothpaste and whitening accelerator. It replaces your regular toothpaste and you whiten as you brush so no extra steps!! The best price is at QVC.Their other whitening products are great, too.I’m not affiliated with the company,I just really love their products.
What at-home teeth whitener do you think is the best?
They all work the same for me – I don’t find one is better than the other.
Getting a whitening treatment done by the dentist was the single best beauty decision I have ever made. EVER.
I use Physician’s Formula Plump Potion in clear on my lips at night – it’s a thick, sticky lipgloss that does a wonderful job of exfoliating! In the AM, I just rub my finger or a damp washcloth over my lips, and all the flakes peel away without irritating my now-smooth lips underneath! I used to have terrible flaking, so this has been a godsend for me!
I really can’t do anything other than keep them clean. I have very sensitive teeth, AND very little dentin in my teeth. Dentin gives the tooth an opaque look. Mine are almost translucent, which translates to a very sensitive, speckled, uneven bleaching.
I’ve given up. I keep them clean and wear blue-based lip colors that don’t draw attention. It’s a bummer, but I’m a grinder so veneers are out (easy to break).
Super Smile tooth paste with separate activator and booster wands. Then I have the GO Smile ampules with their light and accelerator stixs to use every 2 months for 3 days in a row. I have badly stained teeth from being given tetracycline for acne before they knew it was a sun sensitive drug as well as it was known that it would turn your teeth yellow – and I took it for years. So really hard to get my teeth white. Dentists are challenged by it. Bonding did not last and I have not been able to afford veneers yet. But that is next on my list.
I use Carmex (the original flavor) every night. The original flavor contains salicylic acid in it to help the exoliating process in the next morning. Just lightly brush your lips with your gentle tooth brush, easy-peasy!
And for my teeth, I go to my dentist every 6 months for scaling and sometimes I also use Crest Whitestrips (not too often since I have sensitive teeth to begin with).
I wear braces so I have to take extra care. I brush my teeth frequently, floss frequently and always wear lipbalm (Lipsmackers, Softlips, etc.) under my lipstick/lipgloss.
