I find using a richer cream at night helps a lot. I can still use a lighter cream for the day, when I want to wear makeup over it, and complement it by using a heavier cream at night.

Olive oil! I massage it on my face and wash it off in the shower with Lush’s Fresh Farmacy calamine soap every morning. My horrible, acne-prone combination skin has done a complete 180 since I adopted this routine.
I don’t need any help…I’ve got really oily skin
I use either Caudalie Grape Water throughout the day or Focus 21 Sea Plasma.
I find that it’s really hard to keep the face moisturised all day. So I supplement it by spraying with Avene spray to keep the face hydrated.
I love using hydrating serums like CLarins Hydra-quench or Elizabeth Arden Intervene before I use a day or night cream. The serum instantly hydrates and plumps up the skin and the moisturizer prevents the moisture from evaporating making the skin moisturized all day long 🙂
I’m with you, Christine.
I found out that if I keep my skin moisturized during the night, I feel it comfortable during the day; only needing some little moisturizer and lots of mattification in the morning! Hahaha
I like cocoa butter for my face, or Eucerin. I have super dry skin and I live in a cold climate- so I need a thicker cream for my face
I found that Avéne Eau Thermal helps me a lot!!
It’s the very same for me. Richer formula at night and lighter formula in the morning.
I have combination/oily skin, so i try and stay away from rich, heavy creams (unless I’m flaking from blwong my nose, then I reach for the blue container Nivea one :)). I found that using a very very tiny amount(!) of face oil helps improve my skin. I use the Dr.Hauschka one for oily skin, or the Yves Rocher Culture Bio Precious Night Oil. But really,a word of caution: if you are oily, you only need a very tiny amount.
If you oily skin, oily/sensitive skin, or skin with acne and oiliness, I’m telling you from now that there is nothing better for you for most of the year than Clarins HydraQuench lotion for Normal to Combination skin which comes in a thin blue pump bottle with a white cap. The only time you may have to use less of this lotion or change it something lighter and thinner in consistency is if you’re in the middle of the hottest, sweatiest summer.
Otherwise Clarins HydraQuench Lotion is the perfect lotion for oily skin in the fall, winter, and spring, it’s not heavy and creamy so that it breaks you out and it’s not so thin and disappearing like it’s water or something. It doesn’t leave any residue or stickiness and it really stays in your skin giving it moisture without greasiness.
I don’t use a heavy moisturizer just cause I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t make my skin feel greasy or oily. I do use Lush’s Saving Face massage bar on my skin at night before bed. I find it to be just as lush as a heavy night cream but without all the excessive oilness.
Do you have any recs for a good night cream?
I use Laura Mercier perfecting water-light, followed by her mega moisture cream. It’s not greasy, absorbs fast, and keeps my temperamental skin happy all day.
I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream day & night. It’s a cream but it has a light, gel-like texture and it gives me 24-hour hydration.
I use moisturizer throughout the day but if you have foundation on all day I found a moisturizing spray that I spritz on.
I too use a very thick, rich moisturizer at night. I also like to use MAC’s Comfort Blend oils on my cheeks for that extra boost sometimes. I can still wear my Clinique DDMG in the day without my skin feeling dry/tight because of this routine.
may be i am alone here but it works for me.. drink enough water, milk, cottage cheese or yogurt and fruits.. I see lotsa difference in my skin once i started takin cottage cheese and milk in my diet regularly..
agree @ caudalie grape water, refreshes and holds moisture in. good night time moisturizer and good, hydrating moisturizer like caudalie, estee lauder
also using ole henriksen’s balancing oil right after showering when skin is thoroughly wet, pat dry and lock the moisture in, gives a great glow too
I can’t tell you enough what a difference just a few drops of jojoba oil (Trader Joe’s carries the Desert Essence 100% pure version, and it’s wonderful) added to any moisturizer makes.
jojoba doesn’t agree with my skin but a couple drops of sweet almond or pangea organics balancing oil works too– I bought the sweet almond at the grocery store so I don’t have to worry about it spoiling before I finish the bottle plus sweet almond is excellent for face, hands, body, post shaving. it seems to absorb better than most oils and leave skin softer.
I use Cetaphil moisturizer both day and night and my face feels moisturized all day. It does take a little time to absorb but I have no problems with that. In the summer, I use Fix+ by MAC during the day to just give my skin a little hydration.
I drink plenty of water and I occasionally, if necessary, mist my face with Heritage Rosewater & Glycerin (which is natural alternative for MAC’s Fix + or MUFE’s Mist & Fix).
I find that just remembering to tone and moisturize at night helps a lot, as well as remembering to use a toner before moisturizer in the morning. A lot of people say toners are pointless, but I find a gentle one really preps my skin to absorb my moisturizer better. Also doing masks a couple times a week and exfoliating regularly helps too.
I don’t put anything heavy on it during the day; just a bit of Clinique Dramatically Different Gel. As my skin tends to be a bit oily, that’s enough to keep my face moisturized during the days.
I need a rich moisturizer at night and day due to the fact that my skin is dry to combination (!!!). In fact the combination part concerns my noise and a part of my chin (normal to combination) and the dry part concerns the rest of my face (rather normal to dry especially winter than dry, in fact). And as it’s cold, my skin is particularly dry. So I use first a oil-based serum that I mixe with my rich moisturizer and then I spray with a glycerine/oil/infusion mist in order to balance the dry, normal and combination (I will say my skin is a mix of dry, combination and dull). And it works. Yet I need to apply again my moisturizer if, suddenly, my skin turns dry in the middle of the day. Very tricky, isn’t it?
Voilà
I have naturally oily skin so it always feels moisturized!
