How do you feel about organic makeup? Share your thoughts!

If it’s something I’m looking for, I want to ensure that the product is really organic and not just using buzz words to get my attention. I’ve never experienced greater efficacy with an organic product over non-organic product myself.

– Organic makeup to me I feel doesn’t show up well. I made the mistake of getting my prom makeup done at this salon that uses their own brand makeup which was all organic and the eyeshadows didn’t even show up. I went home and did my entire makeup! organic makeup doesn’t work good on me 🙁

hey christine can you please tell me if I can use macs fix plus to apply pigments? I don’t have a pro store near me so I can’t get a mixing medium but I will be calling in to get it. Can i use mac fix plus tho? thanks!

Organic makeup is just not something I search out. I work in the Sales/Marketing Industry. The term “Organic” is an over exploited label used to increase sales. Make sure you read the fine print!

My number one indie makeup brand uses a lot of organic ingredients. The only time I really notice a difference is in lip products. Their glosses and lipsticks are ACTUALLY moisturizing, soo unlike anything else I’ve tried.
So for me it’s not so much that it’s actually organic but more that their product works amazingly.
Though I do actively search for organic foods, etc, makeup is okay by me if it’s largely synthetic though my sensitive skin really does respond a little better to fewer ingredients.

“Organic” is ubiquitous as “natural” is. Im all for Organic products. There are organic conditioners, creams and serums that i feel safe putting on my skin. As far as makeup, that’s a different story. Other than Lip balms, blushes, lipsticks and concealer, I really can’t say that organic makeup is long wearing or resistant to humidity.

I have had similar experiences. Each time I have tried organic products, my face will burn and itch; or I can’t stand the smell; or the creams will feel grainy. If I could find organic products that smelled, felt, and acted like synthetic ones, I would be all for them!

I personally am more for organic products. The main reason is not just because it’s “all natural” but because I just feel better about buying it. Makeup is generally a mix of chemicals that we’re putting on our face. There ARE bad affects to it. So that’s why I try to give organic a try every once in a while. Maybe it won’t be so bad for my skin? Idk??

I think organic make-up is kinda limited, because they mostly use the same ingredients and so there are not many variations. They often contain a lot of natural oils so with my oily skin there is no way to get a matte texture, also the pigmentation is not very good so they wear off very fast.

Only exception is eyeshadow, but again the shade range is so limited.

I have to disagree with you. I’ve had a mild form of acne during several years, and I’ve tried about everything. I was ready to try laser, when my boyfriend’s mother showed me some Doctor Hauschka products. At first, it only seemed to be getting worse, but after a while my skin started to heal. Now , in combi with a lightly dosed Pill, my acne has dissapeard and my skin looks better than ever. I truly believe in organic skincare. I’ll never go back to anything else.

Theres alot of organic bands out there, or brands that do organic lines, the most famous and i think its the best is Origins, there makeup and skincare is fab, i use abit of it in my skincare and makeup range and their tools aswell for clients.
But is mineral makeup classed as organic, because its natural and 100% free of any synthetic stuff?

Hmm nope, not buying into the hype at all. I think it’s good that people are getting more educated overall about these things, so that we won’t be taken in by such marketing buzz words. For example, even if I am able to get one product that is made organically, it doesn’t make a difference to my well-being because the other 10 products that I use are not organic. (The numbers are just an illustration.)

I’m not really open to using organic makeup. That’s not to say that I haven’t tried it. I just find that it’s expensive and with the product I dropped a lot of money on, I was extremely disappointed. However, I have EXTREMELY dry skin, all year round. A product that I used on my daughter as a newborn, turned out to be my saving grace. California Baby Calendula Cream is the only thing that keeps my dry skin in check without breaking me out. It’s organic, heavily moisturizing, and non comedogenic!

i agree with christine, organic make up are exploited in the industry! but i’d like my cosmetics to contain no harmful chemicals like parabens etc…. EOS makes good lip balms!

I’ve been searching for a good organic skincare and makeup line. I recently decided that it might be a good idea to use a natural foundation or tinted moisturizer to protect your skin and then use non organic/natural blushes etc… Not sure if that has any truth to it, but I figured it’s worth a try.

Depends on the brand. It can be a real hit and miss. Unfortunately when it’s a miss, it’s a total fail. But there are some good things out there if you’re not afraid to experiment.

In terms of product ingredients organic vs non organic doesn’t make too much difference to me from a political standpoint. I care much more about the products not being tested on animals. But when it comes to packaging being recyclable or, even better, biodegradable I give a brand major points for that. I guess the latter though doesn’t fall strictly under the organic label but part of environmentally responsible business practices more generally.

Dani Avatar

I’m indifferent to organic makeup. If I saw something that appealed to me visually(so far I never have) and it happened to be organic I would give it a try. I wouldn’t buy it simply because it is organic.

BEST BEST BEST organic + natural makeup in the world!

I have all the products, and I can’t rave about them more. I’ve met Rose-Marie, and she is so utterly passionate about beauty starting from the inside. She works with every model in the business, and considers Gisele B and Miranda Kerr her best buds.

You guys will become hooked!

I prefer organic or as close to ‘natural’ as possible for skincare, lip balm, hair and foundation. I battle acne constantly and if I give my skin any excuse to form a zit, it will! I don’t find it costly if you skip the middleman and buy from ‘on-line only’ companies. I use Everyday Minerals for my foundation ($12 for 13g). I use raw shea butter ($8 per pound) on my body and hair. I mix tea tree oil with jojoba oil as my moisturizer for my face. I mix aspirin with witch hazel as my toner (which has been a saving grace for my acne)!! What I do splurge on is Korres body butter because I adore the scent. I just use it on my hands to make it last longer, but it sure isn’t cheap.

I’m interested in organic make up but I haven’t really tried anything yet…just a white eyeliner pencil and it was awful so I decided to do more research.

i’m not really big on the organic bandwagon… while i know it’s become a customer concern lately, i think it is fueled by hysteria and fear, rather than good science. i think that more times than not it is the natural or organic products that can irritate skin rather than not.

i also believe that, unless you are actually EATING organically, or taking the organic lifestyle in its entirely, you shouldn’t worry as much about what you’re putting on your face… instead, think about what you are taking into your body first!

Any organic (and they rarely are truly organic) products I have sampled, sadly, do not perform.

As much as I would absolutely love to use organic products, I simply cannot afford to use unreliable or inferior-quality products on my clientele 🙁

Any company that claims that there makeup is organic are taking you for your money. By definition Makeup can’t be 100% organic since micas and iron oxides are minerals and inorganic by definition. Organic label should only be used in lotions, balms and lip products since we are talking about plant based ingredients. Any product line claiming to be Organic or Natural should have an ingredient list less then 13 items and contains no parabens. Also if the ingredient list is not transparent (meaning they hiding behind chemical or scientific names instead of spelling it out by the common names) chances are the brand is hiding the fact they are not using natural ingredients in their products. Any reputable company either, it’s an indie brand or big conglomerate will list out the ingredients that are organic in natural if there really want to sell that as a POP (Point of Purchase or Point of Sale). Otherwise the company is trying to market onto the natural band-wagon to grab sales and using Organic the same way food companies throw around the term “Light”.

In short any makeup item can have Organic ingredients but it can not be Organic by natural, I would not be makeup if it was completely Organic.

PS. The first time a saw a company use Organic for their drugstore brand had me spewing since nothing in the ingredient list was even remotely “Organic”. It was 100% false advertising but since Aloe was an ingredient it was still organic in the true sense of the word. >___<

I love organic more like organic mineral, I tried bare escentuals that made me break out badly and itch, found out it was due to the bismuth oxychloride. Found Afterglow cosmetics which I use now and I noticed my skin is now healthier, I also use Orglamix which is a homemade brand on Etsy. Love them both, and love more that they have their ingredients listed on the page so I know it doesn’t have parabens or any other things. I used to use Revlon Colorstay and my afterglow stays on all day and doesn’t feel like I have anything on. I LOVE IT!!!

I don’t really seek out organic makeup, but I use skin and hair care products from natural brands like Origins, Burt’s Bees, Caudalie, Korres and Jonathan Product that I really like. It’s a lot easier to find skin care w/ natural ingredients than makeup, I think. I would guess that organic makeup expires a lot faster and I agree that a lot of the makeup products labeled ‘organic’ or ‘natural’ aren’t really that natural at all.

I have tried organic makeup and I had a really bad allergic reaction to it. Sometimes our bodies have become used to to so many chemicals that when we use something that is pure, our bodies react as if foreign items have entered it. I am very sensitive to many things when it comes to my face. Mac has been the only foundation that has not caused me an outbreak.

I love organic food. But, organic skin products worry me a bit. If the product was simple and natural and performed well, that would be a bonus. I use beautypedia.com and cosmeticsdatabase.com to look up ingredients. Just because something is organic doesn’t mean it is good for your skin.

Vanessa Avatar

I dont really have an opinion… im a bit neautral about the topic. I guess if its a really good product and i know for certain it is what it claims to be i would try it.

Sass Avatar

It’s “boring” when you kind of think about it. Nothing edgy or interesting about it and the certified organic stamp means nothing to me. I refuse to believe that makeup is 100% organic.
