Hourglass Exhibition Eyeshadow Duo

Hourglass Exhibition Visionaire Eyeshadow Duo ($38.00 for 0.20 oz.) contains a grayish plum mauve with a frost-metallic finish and a blackened burgundy eggplant with a frost-metallic sheen. Hourglass’ Eyeshadow Duos are such an underrated and under-appreciated product–the quality is absolutely phenomenal and the shades are infinitely flattering.

Selfishly, I wish they had about a dozen more duos, because their eyeshadows are easily some of the best I’ve come across–and better yet, the quality is fantastic across the range. There are no duds in their duo line-up. Soft, smooth as silk, and buttery texture paired with intense color pigmentation that glides on, blends effortlessly, and can be used wet or dry.

The $38 may seem steep, but don’t let it fool you: there are two full-sized (actually, more than that) eyeshadows inside. Each eyeshadow is 0.10 oz., which is double the average full-sized eyeshadow, for a total of 0.20 oz. The packaging is also this pewter bronze with a swivel top that reveals a mirror inside along with a pint-sized brush (with real bristles) that’s usable and not scratchy.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Hourglass as a brand is underrated, but their eyeshadows are easily my favorite product from the brand. There is something to be said for a brand that puts out consistently high quality products with to-die-for textures. This duo will naturally flatter cooler skin tones but it is not so cool-toned that warmer skin tones will find it difficult to work with.

Wow. What a pretty purple. I will have to try one of their duos since you have always said good things about the duos and I love that there is more product for each of the shadows and with a brush we can actually use.

Thank you so much! I was dying to see swatches of this duo (impossible to find online), but now i need it LOL. I also love from the brand the Bronzer/blush duo. That one is a real gem!

All of your reviews on Hourglass products have been so positive that I think next time I need a new product I’ll check them out. I’ve seen their “station” at Sephora all the time but never gave them a try! This is why you must keep blogging — thank you!

Yeah these are beautiful. And they’re what $19 an eyeshadow? There are a lot of high end eyeshadows that cost that much. Also, for me anyway, the plus side to buying expensive makeup is im more likely to make a real effort to use it, in order to get my money’s worth.

I already pay $38 CAD for NARS Duo eyeshadows but $45 CAD for Hourglass Duos……….I don’t know…the colours aren’t the most original although I like the combo for this one.

Just out of curiosity, do you use a primer when swatching? I had a quick look through the FAQ’s but didn’t find an answer.

I lovelovelove this duo, come payday it is mine 🙂

I’d agree it’s expensive, but there’s nothing simple about the packaging! It’s bronze metal, the top swizzels 360 degrees, and it includes a high quality brush. I think it right up there with Guerlain.

But,as with everything – to each their own!

Very pretty, though I’m not sure I -need- these colors. What I just realized, though, is how amazingly OFF Sephora’s online color representations are, though. Now I remember why I don’t buy things from them online unless it’s a repeat buy.

I absolutely love everything I’ve tried from Hourglass, but for some reason I’ve never tried the eye shadows. Thanks for the review…I’ll be heading out to Sephora soon!!
