I actually haven’t come across a tinted moisturizer that didn’t serve its purpose, but I love the Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer!

I also had a bad experience with it. It made my skin super oily and made it have little bumps all over it. It must have been something that they had in it, but no other tinted moisturizer has done that to me.

I’m wearing it right now! I have the new formula, and I’ve been using it for a couple years. I love it so much, but it can be a little thick for the summer. But it’s moisturizing but not greasy on my combo skin.

Sephora’s brand! It was awful, it was like the moisturizer and the color would separate once it was pumped out and did apply correctly. Honestly weirded me out on TMs

The Phyisician’s Formula TM (in the beige tube, never tried the one in the orange). It’s so sheer that there’s nothing tinted about it at all. It’s also very watery so it leaves your skin especially shiny and my skin is not one to be oily at all and when I apply that one I’m always having to set it with a powder which is useless because why am
I setting practically nothing?

Also, I do really enjoy the Urban Decay TM for the coverage but WOW that smell. You would think that eventually you’d get used to it but… nope. No you don’t. It smells so bad. I can’t. I still suck it up and use it tough because it gets the job done!

I have dry skin, too, and I’ve yet to find a tinted moisturizer moisturizing enough to handle it so I wear a serum or regular moisturizer under it.

Z Avatar

Oh it’s definitely moisturizing enough. I second Christine’s recommendation. It felt great on my dry skin, but unfortunately still had silicones (dimethicone I think) so it was a problem for me. Though it was farther down so if you have a silicone problem, it might still be ok. Plus it smells nice. 🙂

The one by Korres in the white tube with brown lettering that smells like watermelon is the absolute worst tinted moisturizer that I’ve ever tried. It blends terribly! The coverage is super full, fuller than any foundation that I’ve owned even. I wouldn’t mind the full coverage if it blended well but it doesn’t. I’d have a better time blending concealer on my entire face instead of this thing. Even when I added an additional moisturizer I still had a hard time blending.

I do enjoy Laura Mercier, Tarte, and Urban Decay’s tinted moisturizer’s though! I can’t wait to try the Hourglass one.

I totally agree. I got a sample of three colors, and there was no discernible difference between the three on my skin. Worse, it made my skin break out in hives!

This brand named Kiss. I’m AA so it’s hard to find a tinted moisturizer and I picked it up at a beauty supply store and it made my oily skin look disgusting…I tossed it immediately.

I’m not even sure if this counts as a tinted moisturizer, but I bought it because I thought it might function similarly: Perricone MD’s No Foundation Foundation. It comes in one shade–which matches me–but that’s the only good thing about it! It smells like lemongrass, which is nice for a while but I don’t want to smell it all day; it stays disgustingly tacky forever and won’t dry or sink in or stop making my skin tacky without TONS of translucent powder, and it broke me out! The shade wasn’t a problem for me or lots of people since it’s pretty sheer, and it won’t break everyone out, but the texture and scent are serious problems. I can’t believe they seriously charge $50 for a bottle for this monstrosity. It’s horrible.

I have very oily skin, and the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser is awful. Absolutely horrifyingly makes me look like a wet seal in a matter of minutes once it goes on.

No amount of blotting or powdering or setting or frankly, putting cement on my face would stop the oil coming through on this one!

Michelle Avatar

elf hands down, maybe it’s just the packaging but the lid always came off in my makeup bag getting it EVERYWHERE I just had to throw it away, but I don’t remember being too attached to the product itself.

Jasmin Avatar

The elf tinted moisturizer! The undertone is too reddish orange. After i applied it, my brother was like you look red. It does not look natural. It looks okay if i set it with mac studio fix powder though in nc43 which does match me.But overall if the shade was right, it’d be a good product.

I agree the Marcelle sheer tint moisturizer was horrible. It felt like I had rubbed Crisco lard all over my face. 10 minutes was as long as I could go until I had to wash it off and the color shades suck.

Hotashi Avatar

I actually like the Marcelle tinted moisturizer. I think it’s better suited for those with dry skin, like myself, because I find it extremely moisturizing. I agree though that the colour selection is minimal and doesn’t suit a variety of skin tones, but if you find a match and you need extra moisture, this is pretty good for the price.

Ugh the Aveeno one. It was so weird, it feels mousse-y, then when you apply it onto your skin, it made my face feel like there was…dust on it or something? It was so horrible feeling, I rubbed it off immediately.

Yelena Avatar

Covergirl Aqua Smoothers….disgusting is an understatement. Too orange, oily as I dont even know what and when I put my shirts on they somehow have that crap on them! Even though it is cheap it’s still a waste.

Maureen Avatar

Physicians Formula Healthy Wear (in the orange bottle). I bought the palest shade and it’s far too dark! It’s also pretty greasy. It’s SPF 50, though, and I can usually work with it if I need to, but it’s really a pain.

Sara Avatar

almost all of them lol. Every single one I tried made me orange. I have cool tones, and none of them worked. Until Tarte smooth operator. The color matching was so much better than anything else. So many brands have a VERY limited color selection for tinted moisturizers.

Kelly Avatar

I don’t mind Stila’s I just wish it had more coverage especially in the Summer when your face can be oil city and that is totally not the time to be wearing foundation all the time.

Monica Avatar

The Clinique one I think is called Surge relief tinted moiturizer or something like that….Is no moisturizing al all, can´t be applied evenly and smoothly, and looks cakey
I H-A-T-E I-T!

michelle Avatar

I was dissatisfied with ELF Studio Line tinted moisturizer. it has a strong sunscreen smell, is difficult to blend, and turns orange after an hour or two. even though I don’t usually buy higher-end makeup, I got the Tarte Smooth Operator tinted moisturizer a few weeks ago, and so far so good!

Sharon M Avatar

Nivea’s tinted moisturizer. It is orange, very orange, on my NW 15 skin, so I ended up throwing it out. The only other tinted moisturizer I’ve tried is Marcelle, which is a decent colour match on me (the lightest shade) but not entirely thrilled with it either, as it makes my face look shiny.

Sabrina Avatar

No7’s Dual Protection Tinted Moisturiser is fairly good but there are only two shades and the lightest one is too dark for me (can only possibly get away with it in the summer) and I have a Stila one which was a better match for my fair skin but had a bit of dodgy thick consistency.

i don’t even bother with elf anything. its cheap, but i don’t understand why everybody says its so high quality. the powder products have powdery fallout and cake up on my skin, everything they make gives me hives, the eye products run everywhere, the lip products smell and are gone in seconds, i just don’t get it. the “quality” isn’t there. i love saving money, but id rather invest in a quality product i guess.
