Stila Stay All Day liquid lipstick. It dries to concrete. Feels awful This is one of the only products that I have ever returned for a refund.

I don’t know if the NYX matte lip creams fit in this category, but those get my vote. I love the colors, I want a matte texture and love the monikers but they feel like drying frosting on my lips.

You should try lip tar by obsessive compulsive cosmetics. I order directly from them but I’ve also purchased it at sephora. Sephora has just now started carrying most all the colors and there are at least 28 colors. No drying and stay on ALLDAY and can be mixed with any lipstick. I am as it says “obsessed with this product”. I agree with u in the NYX they have great colors but omg its ends up like chalk on the lips! Good luck and I hope you try the lip tar and read how to use it or you can use to much and it will go to far. U only use a drop the size of the end of a straight pin. That’s all it really spreads and colors the lips!

18thCenturyFox Avatar

Here’s the crazy thing- I have about 15 lip tars in the most gorgeous colors BUT they do not stay on my lips! Crazy, I know! They work like a dream for everyone but for me I can use with/without a liner, balm, primer and it just wears right off! Just like Zoya polish refuses to dry for me! I must have very strange chemistry. I’m very saddene about the lip tars because the colors are just my sort of high impact, unapologetic style 🙁

Daintynymph Avatar

I’m the same way with lip tars! With normal lipstick if I use liner it’ll wear really well, but the lip tars just smear everywhere. I know people are going to say it’s because we’re using too much, but I know that I’m using just a teensy dip of the brush. I’m glad I got mine in a decant circle. I’d be really cranky if I paid $18 for something that just does not work on me.

18thCenturyFox Avatar

I use my hand as a palette and a lip brush to ensure I’m using the right amount of product. If I used any less, the color wouldn’t be opaque- so I think we’re all using them correctly. They also dry the bejeezus out of my lips. Yowch!

Andie Avatar

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick! It dries out my lips something horrible, and the colors are so not my favorite. I have to wear gloss to make it even an option, and then it’s not as long wearing. It’s a complete miss for me.

Carly Avatar

Wet n Wild Mega Last Liquid Lipsticks, hands down! The formula is opaque as all hell with long lasting results, but I don’t really want that if it’s super drying, if it clumps on your lips (like, wtf?), and if it feels like you coated your lips in an uncomfortable amount of the NARS rubberized finish.
Ew. Skip these.

Crissy Avatar

Definitely Stila Stay All Day liquid lipstick.
I’m a big fan of liquid waterproof lipstick like especially
the ones from Maybelline and CoverGirl since they allow you
to wear gloss above it without altering the integrity of the
liquid stain. This allows you to have perfect lips throughout the day. The Stila liquid lipstick looses the staying power
once the gloss is applied. I’m not buying more of them in the future.

joyce Avatar

stila is one of my favorite brands, but I have to add another vote for Stay All Day liquid lipstick. It felt heavy yet weirdly powdery on the lips, and was very drying.

lina Avatar

MAC´s playing koi still haunts me, settles on the lines as hell and feels terribly dry on the lips…such a pitty cause the shade is stunning!

xamyx Avatar

I don’t really bother with any of them. With most, I find I have to apply a balm or gloss on top, so what’s the point? That said, one that I *do* like is L’Oreal Infallible; those at least come with a topcoat, and they fit into the packaging, which makes them user- & travel- friendly. With other brands, I have to make sure I have an extra product with me, and if I forget, there’s nothing I can do.

Mariella Avatar

I don’t think I own any liquid lipsticks. I have some glosses that are almost “lipstick-like” but not any true liquid lipsticks. I didn’t even know such things existed. I thought if they were liquid, they were glosses, just really pigmented glosses.

Allie Avatar

I agree with the NYX Matte Lip Creams. They look amazing, but they are incredibly drying. I need to put lip balm on 5 minutes later, and that defeats the matte aspect!

Cindy Avatar

The only ones I’ve tried are Kat Von D and Stila. I have to say the Stila one, which I got free from a Sephora VIB promo, does the job but it smells and tastes something awful – like it’s rancid or something. Feh.

Carla N. Avatar

I’m not one to wear liquid lipstick, but I remember hating one by L’Oreal about 15 years ago; it was called “Rouge Pulpe,” or something like that.
As I recall, it was nicely opaque, but made a smeary, greasy-feeling mess.
Ick!
More recently, I hated one by Paula’s Choice; I don’t remember the name, and I think it’s now discontinued, but it was smeary and awful.
The only liquid lipstick I like is Ellis Faas “Ellis Red,” and I love that one for the color, not the formula.

Katie Avatar

I believe any liquid lipstick can be awful if not applied correctly. I always have to use lip liner with my liquid lipstick or it bleeds fairly easily.

Helena Avatar

I have to disagree with all the previous comments about Stila and NYX! I own Patina in the former and London in the latter, but maybe my opinion is changed by my love of matte finishes.

Karla Avatar

The kat Von d everlasting love liquid lipstick! They dry your lips terribly and settle into every line. The formula began to seperate after a few months as well.

Jenny Avatar

NYX matte lip creams! Uggh! They smell delicious like cupcake frosting and look amazing at first, but then my lips look they are all cracked and dry 🙁

Susan Nevling Avatar

Studio Gear- a reddish color. Became rancid in a very short period of time. Was not a storage issue because the other lipsticks stored with it were not at all rancid even several months later.
I have a love hate relationship with NARS lipsticks. Some are so dry that I can’t stand to have them on mu lips while others are great. I think the ones that tend to be more matte or flat in color tend to be drier but am not certain.

Francesca Avatar

I actually just tried the Stila Stay All Day liquid lipstick and really liked it. I think it’s supposed to dry down to that matte finish, I find it doesn’t dry my lips out at all.
However, I was not a fan of the Chanel Rouge Allure Laque range. Dragon was such a beautiful red, and all the other colours were very pigmented, but I literally did everything to prevent it from feathering and it always did horribly ! That just kind of ruined the product for me.

Jessica Avatar

The NYX Xtreme Lip Creams. It doesn’t matter how little I use, they end up migrating all over the place, which is strange because they feel so sticky on my lips. Everyone is saying the soft matte lip creams which are actually my favorite liquid lipstick type product!

Andrea Avatar

These!!

I have a much bigger problem with the Xtreme Lip Creams than the Soft Matte Lip Creams. I am not a matte lip girl, but I enjoyed the latter in Tokyo! The Xtreme Lip Creams that I (briefly) owned, I literally immediately returned after trying them on in the car. So streaky, and then even if it somehow applied well, the second I put my lips together I had dents.

Having not tried Stila, the NYX Xtreme Lip Creams get my vote!

Steph Avatar

Both of Revlon’s Colorstay liquid lipstick formulas were awful on me, I suspect the same would be true of most brands’ longwear liquids but I haven’t tried too many others- I really want to try lip tars though!

Claire Avatar

I’d have to say maybelline wet shine diamonds (is this actually a gloss?) it had a horrible smell, it was very thick, the glitter was very gritty and the glitter migrated everywhere. It was horrible

Farrah Avatar

I’ve got this one! NYC Smooth Proof lip stain. Why why why did I waste my money on this poor excuse of lip stain?
Cons:
1)sucks all the moisture out my lips & any space around me. Leaving my lips chapped & peeling are not something I look for in a lipstick.
2) if, you are lucky, to get any stain out of this “poor man’s excuse of a Rose Art” felt marker- it’s patchy & skips. There is poor pigmenting & then there is NYC lip stain.
3) did I mention this product sucks? I have been searching for the perfect lip stain & I’m still on the hunt, bc this bad boy was not anyone’s HG.
4) if you do get any stain on your lips, STOP EVERYTHING!!!! Don’t breathe, don’t talk, don’t eat/ drink, he’ll, don’t even look at the stain to hard. I swear the color fades as soon as it comes into contact with your lips. This leads you into the viscous cycle of reapplying & chapping of your lips.
5)” oh, no you didn’t!” It did! Yes, after my second application, of the stain, (I needed to reapply the stain to my bottom lip, again, BECAUSE I wasn’t *ninja* quick enough applying it to my top lip WITHOUT my bottom lip color fading) THE TIP FELL OFF, RAELLY, NYC, REALLY? Poor quality design? CHECK
6) worst liquid lipstick ever!!!!!

Pros: will leave you with that groovy “leprosy” look that all the cool kids have: patchy coloring, peeling/ chapped lips (seriously, chunks of my lip started hanging off after my 2nd application), leaky marker container, complete fading in seconds & total frustration come free with purchase of any NYC lip stain. Never again. I’m off to find my HG lip stain.

SarahKita Avatar

YES have to agree with this. I put the colour on and could watch my lips – LITERALLY – shrivelling up on contact. And it’s patchy as all hell. I listened to a rave review from some magazine online like Marie Claire or something and bought 3 of these, they were all dreadful.

I absolutely love obvsessive compulsive cosmetics lip tar!!!!!! The best liquid lips color I’ve ever in my 61 years can’t live without. It’s kind of new but its is a full coverage lip color and it stains and stays in all say.
You only use a drop the size of the head of a straight pin. It’s amazing. If u see the color on line then it will be exactly that color on the lips. You can also purchase this at sephora and its $18 but one squeeze tube will last at least a year. It has peppermint oil in it and tastes great. You can also mix it with other lip tar colors or any lips stick. Try it it’s great! I have about six colors I use and hope to get more.

Ladies! U r going to think I’m nuts but I saw on Dr. Oz that lanolin is the best for conditioning your lips. He says if u r applying lip gloss or chap stick more than three times a day that’s drying your lips more than helping. So I went to find lanolin and the only pure 100% lanolin I could find was at walmart back in the nursing mothers section. Ts for the nipples and comes in a tube that is in a box and says “HPA lanolin”, for nursing moms. Well I tried it on my lips and within two weeks or less my lips are as soft as a baby’s butt! Lol
Seriously, though it has improved the way my lips colors stay
On and I. 61 and was applying lip gloss and chap stick off and on all day long and my lips were getting worse. Now they never peel. My lip stick (lip tar) by obsessive compulsive cosmetics stays on all day and I also use wet n wild matte over it and no drying anymore! Yay!!!!!!

Tigerlily Avatar

I keep reading about the virtues of lanolin recently! Thanks for sharing, Donna. Looks like I’ll be heading to the nursing mothers section of my drugstore soon 😉

Victoria Avatar

Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick. Oh my god it was awful, one of the worst lip products I’ve ever tried!! The product took forever to dry and was very sheer with the first application. After I thought it was dry I’d apply more but then all the product would come off my lips. When I had the patience to wait long enough and build the color, it had this gross “heavy” feeling on my lips. Also it smelled like cleaning wipes. I don’t recommend it

Nicole O. Avatar

I definitely agree about Wet ‘n Wild’s new Megalast Liquid Lip Colors.

I recently purchased Back To The Fuchsia & loved the color when I put it on my lip. Unfortunately, I regretted it a few seconds later. It’s so incredibly sticky & once it dries, my lips feel dehydrated. It’s also a pain to remove.

I hope they reformulate them because the colors are amazing & the price point is great, but the formula is just terrible. 🙁

Kathleen Avatar

I have only tried two. Hourglass Opaque Rouge Lipstick in Ballet was terrible. Chalky and drying.
I love the Sephora Cream Lip Stain (I like it in 01 best) is really fantastic though. Stays all day, with hardly any transfer, it isn’t drying and doesn’t feel heavy. It wears best if you wipe all excess off the wand before applying and apply the thinnest possible layers. It isn’t a traditional lip stain, like theBalm Stainiac or Benefit Benetint; it is actually a liquid lipstick.

Lydia Avatar

I think i’m alone in LOVING Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick! I love them so much! The worst i’ve found are the Giorgio Armani ones, they never dry and therefore smear all over your face in minutes. They were SO expensive too. Massive waste of money!

Atiyah Avatar

The new Wet n Wild Liquid MegaLast lipsticks. I really wanted to love these things but I can’t. I hate how they setting on your lips. Extremely sticky & removing them is the worst thing in the world. I hope Wet n Wild revamps these things ASAP!

Shannon Quinn Avatar

I remember when Max Factor Lipfinity came out. I was SOOOO excited for the liquid lipstick that would stay put. OMG, if you lost that clear balm that came with it, it was painful lol

I remember scrubbing the heck out of my poor lips to remove it. That stuff was awful. I wonder if it is still produced lol

Sleek wonderlast. Its good for a few secnds, the minute u stretch your lips,
It wil start flaking, starts lookin like a mosaic top coat
