Exempting the two-part lip products, for me, Chanel Rouge Coco in Paris. I wear a face mask all day working with patients — no smear, slight fade at the end of the work day even with lunch in between.

I don’t have got a huge lipstick stash, but the most longest wearing lipstick for me is MAC Viva Glam Nicki, for me it lasts like 5 or 6 hours. Others are sooner gone.

Kathleen Avatar

Ooh I so second that. Wore it yesterday over only More To Love lip pencil. I put it on at 7, it lasted effortlessly throughout an epic, tiring Gymboree session (for me, not the kidling) and a Wetzel’s Pretzel’s lunch. (Read: greasy, delicious, sticky, sugary.) At 12, 5 hours later once I’d finished eating, I pulled out my compact and did a double take, as it looked completely flawless. Continued the day and took it off with makeup remover around 5, but it only looked less glossy at that point. I had also been drinking throughout the day.

On another note, the person who put cremesheen up there must be joking…

I’ll be watching the comments on this one closely. Even famously long-wearing lipsticks (Wet N Wild Megalast, OCC Lip Tar) never seem to wear all that long on me. OCC actually fades from the center out, leaving me after a few hours with that oh-so-attractive “I decided to skip the lipstick today and just wear lip liner” look. Disappointing.

Ryou Avatar

I have the same problem as you, so I tend to fill out my entire lips with lip liner. That way when my lipstick wears off I am less likely to end up with that liner-only look!

Stephanie Avatar

I think the liner is the key here. I haven’t been using it at all, which might be my problem! Do you have a good, long-lasting lip liner you love?

Ryou Avatar

I use Make Up For Ever’s, which wears like iron on my lips. It’s not the creamiest, sadly. I’ve also used Estee Lauder, which is pretty good as well.

I also heard really good things about Lipstick Queen’s, Bite Beauty’s, and Lancome’s Le Lipstique liners.

Jade Avatar

NYX slim lip pencil, I should say!! I did meet a MAC MUA at my local counter who had that problem, fading from the inside out. Wish I could tell you what she did to counter it, but I didn’t ask!

Allie Avatar

I had that problem at first, too. What helped was adding a second, sheerer layer in the center. It helped keep the color on evenly throughout the day.

Jackie Avatar

I get a good long wear out of occ liptars if I use a liner under them, also MAC pro-longwear lipsticks last me quite awhile with a liner.. I think maybe the liner is key. lol.

Estee Lauder double wear lipsticks lasts all day even through meals, love them! And outlast all day lipcolors by Covergirl , first you apply the liquid lipcolor let it dry and then the moisturizing topcoat over it periodically. Chanel also makes a long wear 2 step lip-color.They can be a little drying but they last all day!

Macy Avatar

MUFE Aqua Rouge, L’Oreal Infallible and Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick.

After they dry they just stay on my lips. Don’t stain my glasses, no sticky, plus waterproof.
I love the lipsticks that apply once and last all day.

ElKay Avatar

CHANEL ROUGE DOUBLE INTENSITÉ ULTRA WEAR LIP COLOUR – It isn’t really a “lipstick” but it has the longest staying power for me. I can wear it about 4 hours before reapplying. I have many colors. They all seem to last about 4 hours.

xamyx Avatar

Revlon Just Bitten lasts a while on me (nothing beats the original ColorStay lipsticks, though), and L’Oreal has a 2-step formula that lasts several hours, as well.

As for a “regular” lipstick, I like pretty much any Revlon formula. I also just got a NARS Velvet Gloss pencil in “New Lover” as a 100-point perk, and I’m finding it lasts at least 4 hours (and is an amazing nude on my lips, which are pretty pigmented).

Jackie Avatar

Illamasqua Box will survive the apocalypse (and usually lunch!). The other colors don’t seem to last quite as long, although they still last longer than many other brands.

caitlin Avatar

i actually LOVE cover girl lip perfection lipsticks…they stain the lips and will not come off! i forgot i had it on and wore it in the shower the other day, i stepped out looking just as glamorous as when i first applied :)also nars velvet matte lip pencil in dragon girl or red square…they are amazingly long lasting on me!

Drugstore
1. L’Oreal Infallible – I get over 5 hours of wear if I eat dainty. Once it sets I need *oil* to get the stuff off. Over time it flecks off like paint chips rather than smears. It will survive greasy fries and coffee cups.
2. Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain – I get about 4 hours of wear. Over time it smears off. (The familiar lip stick halo effect.) Transfers to greasy fries and but not enough completely notice.

High End/Prestige
Make Up Forever Aqua Rouge. 5 hours of wear minimum. Over time it smears off. It will survive greasy fries and coffee cups.

MUFE Aqua Rouge. Nothing really lasts on me; I don’t know if it’s personal body chemistry or the fact that I’m always drinking water or tea or something, but nothing lasts very long. But Aqua Rouge I can put on and forget about it unless I need to refresh the gloss part.

Kate Avatar

In general, Rouge G and Rouge d’Armani lipsticks last quite a while on me. Specifically, Rouge G Gigolo and Rouge d’Armani #604 both last 7-8 hours, through drinks and a snack and left a bit of a stain on my lips even when removed with a Mac wipe or cleansing oil. Lipsticks do not have a long life on me as a general rule, so these ones *really* stood out.

nadine Avatar

Dior, Dior, Dior! Diorific is one of the longest wearing lipsticks, that do NOT dry my lips out. My lips have the habits to peel of bleed when I use super dry lipsticks like the Chanel ones and Lancome’s. 🙁

anna Avatar

Chanel Rouge Allure is my favorite everyday long, wearing lip color. But Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in Mexican Rose lasts so long I was still wearing it the next morning. Insane!

Tiffany Avatar

I have NARS Mascate Pure Matte Lipstick, and that thing is like cement on me. I put it on in the morning, and I have to actively work with my makeup remover to get it off at the end of the day.

R. Avatar

Out of curiosity, when you guys say a certain brand of lipstick lasts all day on your lips, is this through eating and drinking as well? Because personally most of the lipsticks I wear (MAC, NARS, Bobbi Brown) usually come off either on the food I eat or the glass I drink from.

So anyway, I was just curious if any particular brand actually lasts through the eating and drinking.

Sarah Avatar

I’m wondering this too. Nothing lasts after a sip of water so although I have like a billion and one lip products I rarely use any. The only thing so far I’ve had luck with is revlon’s balm stains. I usually completely forget about it by the time I’ve eaten something so I can’t comment on how they look after that (the ones I have are not far off my lip colour – I do want the berry coloured one though!)

Carreen Avatar

There is no particular brand that is long wearing. But, most brands make a long wearing formula but they are WAY different than a lipstick. They are either a “stain” or a long wear lipstick is like a paint that dries on your lips in a film.

Tigerlily Avatar

My best bet would be MUFE. I recently bought one of their lipsticks (306, now discontinued) and it lasted a good 5 hours, with lunch in between. I almost got bored not having to touch it up! 😉

Mariella Avatar

I’m sure there are longer wearing ones than my choices but the trade off is that dryness and need to reapply the gloss that comes with those 2 step lipsticks (or at least the first generation of them – I tried one by either Maybelline or Covergirl). But 2 that I do like are Rouge Prodige by Clarins and Mac Pro Longwear Lip Creme (I only have one of those but I do like it a lot and wouldn’t hesitate to get more of them).

Liz Avatar

The only lipstick that I’ve ever had last all day is the Maybelline 24 hour superstay. The problem is sometimes it goes on well and sometimes it is a patchy mess. Also, if I have salad dressing with oil or really anything oily, it will take the Maybelline off to some extent.

When it comes to regular formula lipsticks, the Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color wears very long. Revlon Super Lustrous wears well too.

Quinctia Avatar

Those stay well on me, too! (Though once I made the mistake of going out to dinner and getting crab legs while wearing one, haha.)

The only downside is I find my lips have to be in perfect condition or else it doesn’t look spectacular on.

Allie Avatar

Without a doubt it is OCC Liptars. I applied Divine this morning at 8 and it lasted without bleeding, feathering, or fading for six hours. I even ate a donut and it stayed on perfectly! I love Liptars and I can’t wait to get more!

ayasha Avatar

Max Factor Lipfinity! It lasts a good 5 -6 hours without eating. If you put 2 layers of it you will survive greasy fries and drinks. But don’t forget to put lipbalm underneath because it’s will dry your lips

VickyM Avatar

Almost all lipsticks manage to stay a long time on me, unless if they are drugstore, amazingly enough they have never managed to stay on my lips more than 15 minutes in that case. However the lipsticks from the nicer brands are capable of staying a long time on me, for instance the Shine automatique from Guerlain manage to stay for about 6 or 7 hours on me and they are not long staying, but my longest wearing is by far Girl about Town from Mac it managed to stay on an international trip for 23 hours! also the Mademoiselle lipstick from Chanel I have on at this moment managed to survive a meal consisting of a Subway sandwich, I am very impressed 🙂

I have to testify that YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture is INSANE. I first tried it on at the airport’s duty-free counter, then happily boarded my flight, had my dinner and thought it would just fade off after that. But no, it stayed on vibrant even till the next morning after inflight breakfast. After about 7 hours when i reached my destination, it was still on. It only came off with cleansing oil after 10 hours when i finally reached my apartment. Needless to say i regretted not buying it at duty free and dashed out to the nearest mall to get it. That was shade no.14. I have shade no.1 too and both are WARPAINT material. I have several other reds from MAC, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Guerlain etc but nothing stays like the YSL.

Elizabeth Cunningham Avatar

I agree: YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture is INSANE! Not only long lasting, but is so comfortable wearing. Some of these long-wearing things seem to suck the moisture out of my lips, but this YSL product is just soothing, very protective. Just wish they would expand the color range. The PURPLES in particular are fantastic!

RefrigeratorHeaven Avatar

Guerlain Rouge G lasts on me for ages. Even darker colours like Gigolo look fresh for a very long time, even after eating. Plus, they hardly feather or smudge. A bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth the money!

Geneva Avatar

Tarte LipSurgence matte lip tint. My lips feel moisturized, there’s a slight minty feel and it really lasts all day. My lips don’t feel dry at all.

Emi at Project Swatch Avatar

I’ve had good luck with several different lipsticks – nars velvet matte lip pencil in the darker shades, occ lip tars in the darker or brighter shades, rouge d’ armani 400, and mac rebel all last a solid 6-8 hours on me, depending on the food situation.

i also just tried out revlon’s new ultimate suede lipstick, which is the first longwear type of lipstick I’ve tried, I think, and it lasted for about 9 hours, though it didn’t look so great for the last two. i think i actually had some color left after 12 hours, but it was mostly gone after 9.

Audrey Avatar

Max Factor Lipfinity (the old version) by far. Liquid formula though, it dries in a second after application and stays put FOR EVER. Lip balm stick is included to combat the inevitable drying effect. Plus it has some really wearable everyday shades. You can tell I’m a fan. And I’m proud of that.

gillian tunney Avatar

i have never experienced anything long wearing – i cannot imagine what it would be like to have the same products on my lips all day. Nothing stays. I reapply lip balm every half hour. Wet N Wild Megalast in this bright rasberry color has been the longest – maybe four hours. I cannot tolerate the dryness so i use clear Mac lip glass over it. its terribly sticky but stays on better than other glosses. Revlon Balm Stains stay too but i need lip glass or additional balm. the only lipsticks i don’t need balm over seem to be lip butters. i hate it, i dont understand – i dont lick my lips all the time or anything.

Sil Avatar

I feel your pain, nothing stays for long on my lips. I don’t know if it’s because i have dry lips or what, but i have to reapply lip balm constantly during the day, and even before going to sleep.
If i’m lucky, lipstick will last on me for around 4 hours. And that’s only if i don’t drink anything.

Lorraine ER Avatar

I use Too Faced Lip Primer and it helps drugstore and badly wearing lippies last much longer, esp. glosses.
I find the Revlon Balm stain sticks around on me as does Morgana Cryptoria lipsticks. They stick like glue.

Madeline Avatar

Nothing I’ve EVER tried (and I’ve tried a LOT) lasts as much as the Stila Long Wearing Cream Stains. Their shade Fiery is my power red! I also LOOOOVE Patina and Muse. To give you guys an idea, I wore Fiery on Wednesday 7:30am. That thing was not gone til 7:00pm… and only because I went to Sephora and discovered they had a new red called Beso and of course I needed to try it 😛 They are matte, but you can always apply some gloss. I like to use the Sephora collection rouge shine lipsticks on top!

I would be grateful to see reviews and swatches of MUFE’s new Aqua Rouge lip colors; also YSL’s Rouge Pur esp the paler pink and beige colors since these are usually the most likely to “sheer out” on me during wear. Just a request, Christine, we know you’re never busy huh?
