I love the Paula Dorf Baby Eyes enhancer (I think that’s the name). It doesn’t fade in 0.17 seconds like the Tarte Rest Assured Liner does (or the Essence god awful one). I also love how you only have to do one swipe to get full coverage, so no repeat application on the water line, and the creamy texture means no tugging or pulling. It’s great!

Linda Avatar

I second this, definitly makes my eyes look more awake but in a natural way, covers up a few darks spots and uneven tone on my waterline too, plus stays put.

I’ll be following this convo closely. I’d really like to get one, but they seem hard to find. I’ve only seen Tarte’s EmphasEys but I haven’t heard any reviews on it, so I’ve been hesitant to pick it up. I have been using MAC Powersurge in the lower waterline and I like the look, but still looking for a good nude.

I’ve used the Tarte Emphaseyes eyeliner in black and they’re soooo nice and smooth. The way it glides feels like liquid almost. It feels kind of strange when applied because of the texture. I think it’s worth the money. If there is a nude colored one, it would probably work well with your waterline. I won’t say definitely because of how smooth (I don’t want to say creamy because it’s more liquidy) it feels, it may smudge. It would definitely look good on your lower or upper lashline.

The only one I’ve tried is the MAC chromographic concealer pencils. They were limited edition in a collection a few years ago but you can get them from MAC Pro. I love them, long lasting and its looks great in my waterline as opposed to a stark white liner because I am an NC50 skin tone. Lately I’ve been looking for other brands that has them because I live an hour away from MAC pro and can’t go like I would to my normal counter so thanks Christine for this posting :)!

Don’t have one yet but FYI the Benefit Eye Bright doesn’t work too well. It gets on my bottom eyelashes and wipes goes away in minutes.

I agree! It’s the perfect matte peachy-nude for brightening my waterline. So creamy, no tugging or roughness. Plus, a blended out layer helps neutralize my blue-green dark circles!

For me, that would be MUFE’s aqua eyes pencil in champagne 23L. I love it on the waterline when wearing shimmery, warm and nude looks. It brightens up my eyes without being as stark as white liner. Illamasqua’s liquid liner in “glisten” is one I have my eyes on. I think it would make for an interesting cat eye look.

Rachel Avatar

I wish 23L worked for me. It’s such a gorgeous color, but it applied so patchily on my lash line. I ended up returning it and getting a somewhat similar color from the tiny Sephora pencils, but it’s a little more yellow based than 23L, which I don’t like.

i love these! they are so opaque and longwearing! and they are PERFECT for spot concealing. i keep one in my makeup bag for days when my concealor wipes away bc u can just dab these in problem areas and its so easy and clean

AniBEE Avatar

Yes they do have the coverage needed in a touch up concealer as well. The shades too dark for me being so pale to use as a reverse liner for the lips but these are multipurpose shade the three they make for more skin tones.

Adelita Avatar

I’m sorry, but you use it as a lip liner? Isn’t that shade not safe to be used in the lip area? If I’m not mistaken, Christine already mention it on the M·A·C Chromagraphic Pencils post. CMIIW…

I also love M·A·C Chromagraphic Pencil in NW25/NC30 on my waterline if I’m looking for matte liners. I actually prefer Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil Midnight Cowboy for its shimmer, too bad it doesn’t last long on my watery eyes.

Mariella Avatar

I’ve only got one so I can’t really compare but I have and like MAC’s Chromographic pencil in the lighter of the 2 shades they offered (NC15/NW20, I think).

I LOVED MAC’s Pale Yellow Pencil. It wasn’t as stark as white, but it was brightening and covered the redness on my waterline. Unfortunately, it was discontinued.

Has anyone tried Illamasqua’s Pencil in Vow, Hex, or Cane? I’m wondering how those are for a nudeish or brightening liner!

Laura Avatar

I have vow and hex. Vow is a great nude color because it has just enough yellow in it to counteract redness. Illamasqua’s liners are super creamy and multifunctional. I also use vow to highlight my brow bone and cupids bow.

I have one that came with the hard candy tattoo concealer.

Another one I love, though not actually a nude eyeliner is UD Underground, it lines my waterline invisibly, if that makes any sense, you don’t see it but you see that I have defined lower lashes and just look a little sparkly.

I currently use: Hard Candy – concealer pencil that came with Glamoflauge concealer. I also have Cargo reverse lip liner but I prefer the Hard Candy because it matches my skin tone better. I’ve tried Stila Topaz and it was fine, but wasn’t remarkably different from the Hard Candy, so I returned it.

Karen Avatar

I have actually found that swiping a bit of shimmery bronze shadow/liner on my lower lashline mimics the effect of a nude liner without looking too harsh. I like using Maybelline Color Tattoo shadow in Bad to the Bronze and an angled liner brush.

MAC’s I Get No Kick kohl pencils is my go-to! Sadly it was LE but luckily I have a backup, and MUFE 23L is a solid dupe as well. I much prefer a bit of shimmer in the color when used on the waterline, as it looks more natural than a flat matte color.

Hard to say because to be honest the market for a true nude liner is so limited. The only options that are there really are high end brands. The one I’m using currently is NARS Long Wear Eyeliner in Rue Bonaparte. It does a good job and lasts about 8 hours on me but is pricey for the quantity you get. It is definitely a proper matte nude though and not a champagne/white color. I know Chanel does one as well. Would love to try the Chromagraphic pencils when they are re-released.

Linds Avatar

Nars Rue Bonaparte works great for me! Id be interested to know if anyone else has tried it and thinks that there is one better. Let me know!!

Cargo reverse lip liner is great to brighten on my waterline. Agreed that the Benefit one does *not* last at all, few minutes at best!

I am still in mourning for my Prescriptives “Magic” nude pencil. (I had one left, my puppy grabbed it and burried it somewhere on my 10 acres, *tear*). 3 Custom colorists have one in “Nude” that I am yet to try. I have a naturally super pink waterline…so I am watching this post with a scope! Don’t we all think this should be more of a staple in cosmetic lines?

Abby Avatar

I was wondering when someone would mention this pencil! I still have half of one left, and I’m trying to preserve it as long as possible. Once it’s gone, I don’t know what I’ll do! It works better and stays longer than anything else I’ve tried.

Claudia Avatar

MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in NC15/NW20. Keep one in my makeup bag to take a long with me bcuz i travel alot use it inside my waterline to make my eyes look refreshed, and one in my makeup kit.

Madison Avatar

i don’t see this anywhere. was it limited edition? i can’t find it anywhere on their site or anywhere else they sell their products.

Tricia Avatar

What a great topic! I’d be interested to hear your opinion on it, Christine. Could you possibly do a review of some of the different ones out there? I’ve been on the hunt for a while now, but every one that I’ve come across has been a little too pricey to buy without the assurance that it’s REALLY worth it. 🙂

Maya Avatar

Chanel Le Crayon Kohl in Clair. I’ve thought about trying the NARS one people have mentioned, but I heard it dries out quickly

Kay Avatar

Essence Kajal pencil in #19 “All I Want” you can get it at Ulta in the US (not sure if it’s available worldwide). You can’t beat the price: $0.99! What?!?!? It looks grey/taupe, but trust me. I’m pale and blond and this is the best nude to wear on the waterline to make your eyes look well rested.

Alanna Avatar

I’ve only used the Essence one and it’s…okay. I’m definitely searching for a better one (preferably around $20 or under). It would help me a lot since I wear glasses and they tend to cast a shadow (which I’ve been experimenting with a mix of concealer and Benefit High Beam to cover up dark under-eye shadows.)

Natasha Avatar

NARS Larger than life eyeliner in Rue Bonaparte ! Its the best nude eyeliner i have come across! so creamy that it can never tug at your eyes especially the waterline..and it’s a flesh colour that would suit any skin tone and look natural! Lasts all day too 🙂

Adelita Avatar

I love M·A·C Chromagraphic Pencil in NW25/NC30 on my waterline if I’m looking for matte liners. I actually prefer Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil Midnight Cowboy for its shimmer, too bad it doesn’t last long on my watery eyes.
The most long-wearing nude/champagne-colored eyeliner I’ve tried will be M·A·C Liquidlast Classic Cream, but since I’m not sure whether is it safe for waterline or not, I stop wearing it.

My least favorite will be Stila Smudge Pot Kitten. OMG, it stings!

I will definitely try NARS Rue Bonaparte based on these comments! How it compared to UD Pencil Liner Midnight Cowboy and MUFE #23L?
