Have you tried [makeup] airbrushing?

Have you tried [makeup] airbrushing? If so, what’d you think? If not, would you?

I haven’t but I plan to soon enough – but it’s hard for me to see myself taking the time to do that every day. I’m always up to try new things, though!

Thanks to Jeneen for today’s question! Got a question idea? Submit yours here.

I never have but I’ve used a traditional airbrush to paint with before. It’s difficult to get crisp lines, at least with paint, and it can be hard to know exactly where your product (or paint) gets placed because of the distance between tool and canvas.
I don’t know if I could do it in a mirror, either, my artist airbrush takes two hands and a lot of concentration!

My mom and I share a system and it is AMAZING. So easy to use. Foundation is a breeze. And our makeup looks so good and we always get compliments! 🙂

I went to makeup school for it and have a pro system.

I use kett or occ water based.
kett’s alcohol based
and temptu’s silicone based

I highly recommend taking classes on it, there is so much you need to learn that you would not think of. Personally I don’t think it is something you can teach yourself

I’ve never tried it but I’m old school in the sense that I enjoy doing my makeup. The foundation and everything else. And you have to use their brand foundations, don’t you? Like Temptu. I already have my HG foundation and I’m not giving it up!

You don’t have to use a specific brand’s makeup in regular airbrush systems. The Temptu air pod system they sell at Sephora is totally different than regular airbrush systems.

Airbrushing has never held any appeal for me. It seems like it would be really hard to tell whether or not you’ve covered every area evenly. And it also seems like you would get the stuff all over your hair especially when you reach the outer edges of your face. Not for me!

It actually doesn’t take that much time. Once you get the hang of it, it’s faster than or the same as applying other liquid foundation.

I don’t think I would do airbrush eyeshadow or anything (I think it looks horrible) but for foundation and blush, absolutely.

For my birthday this year I caved and tried the Temptu system at Sephora. Once you get the hang of it (make sure to get a good person at Sephora to show you) it is awesome. It really doesn’t take longer than regular foundation, and it looks better and stays better. It does not get all over the place at all, unless you wave the wand like a crazy person! I’m definitely a fan!

No but I want to. After seeing how flawless Leeshas skin looks I really want to give it a go. I’ve still got 2 open foundation bottles so im gonna try to use them a bit more before buying anything new though.

I have my own TEMPTU system, and I adore it! It always looks flawless, and I never have to worry about streaks or sharp lines. I use it for foundation, blush, highlighter, and bronzer. It is definitely an expensive investment at first, but it really does make a huge difference and the foundation equals out to about a normal MAC foundation price, and lasts just as long. The only issue is there isn’t a huge foundation range, so not everyone may have luck finding their match. I did, as an 003, but there are/were huge gaps in between shades. It’s easy to travel with, and so far definitely my favorite beauty splurge. It was a treat to myself for being the first in my family to graduate college!

Once you get the hang of it, airbrushing is fairly easy. Its whether or not you have the cash to buy the system and products, the right vanity space for it, and the willingness to maintain and clean it on a regular basis 🙂

I personally am lazy. Here’s a tip: buy the airbrush foundation and apply it with stippling or kabuki-type brush. Its the closest you’ll get to the actual thing, and it looks just as good IMO.

My grandmother uses an airbrush system, I don’t know what brand, but its the pro kind where you mix and pour your own foundation concoction into the wand, not pods like Temptu or anything like that. I have to say, her makeup always looks great! But she is hardcore about looking good, I could never see myself investing in something like that.

I had it done on me at a Sephora store a while back. It did look good but my skin did not like the makeup. I itched for hours. I’m not sure I would try again.
