Have you slimmed down your beauty routine for summer?
Have you slimmed down your beauty routine for summer? Or do you do more now that you have the heat to contend with?
Definitely less for me – if I’m outdoors all day, I want to wear less makeup. If I feel the need to look more presentable, perhaps tinted moisturizer, but honestly, I go out without makeup more often than I do with it! (I’m usually testing products where one eye and cheek are totally different from the other, so it’s not a good look to be seen in public with!)

A little… working in the beauty industry it’s tough when you’re expected to have a certain amount of makeup on at a time. On my days off I usually use a little Perfekt foundation, curl my lashes and throw on some gloss.
I actually use more because I have less stuff to do and more time. Besides, now is the time to wear bold and colorful looks, specially to go out at night which I do more often now that’s summer.
Oh I most definitely slim down my beauty routine! I live in Texas where its still 95 degrees at 9 PM and 103 during the day! Add being in college and walking around a huge campus and it’s makeup meltdown central. I haven’t found a way to make my foundation 100% sweat and humidity proof so I’ve had to skip that step. I just make sure to moisturize my face and, conceal any blemishes and then I put on a mineralize skin finish. For the eyes I just wear a liner (blue has become my favorite) and a little mascara. The only thing I don’t skimp on is my lips. I still wear my lipsticks!
I hear you hon! I live in Central Texas and we are breaking records left and right.
Thankfully I just got back from the Coast and can get away with some mascara, eyeliner and lipgloss.
Hi Christine. I just bought a Nars blush from Nordstrom. I took it home and looked at it and realized there were two return stickers on it. Could it possibly have been a returned item? I examined the blush and it appears to be fine but I still rather have a untampered product as I paid good money for it?
Hmm, usually they do not sell returned items from my understanding… It’s possible that it was a quick return – e.g. they rang it up and the person had them immediately put it back or something like that, but I’d probably just get a new one. You should get what you pay for – and not have to risk a return!
Definitely. I only use tinted moisturizer, powder, mascara, and a lip and cheek tint nowadays.
For sure, I wear a lot less makeup. I still have to go to work but, instead of full faced makeup, most of the times I ear tinted moisturizer, bronzer, some colorful eye pencil, mascara and a soft lipgloss. During the day, blot powder.
Summer is when I tend to do my ‘no makeup’ makeup looks with lighter foundation and no powder. I’ll still wear bright lipsticks and nail polish though!
Where I live, it’s almost always hot and I don’t like to wear heavy makeup to begin with, so I think the only change is that I’ve been in the mood to wear summery colors like bronze, coral & teal.
Nope, especially since I don’t wear a lot of makeup anyways.
Not really. I bulked up my makeup bag so I would have more options. So, I’m using less on any given morning, but I am using more of a range.
I live in Texas so it is average 103 here. I wear tinted moisturizer and waterproof mascara if I am going anywhere, but if I am just hanging around the house I don’t wear ANYTHING, it just melts into my face and causes blocked pores, so I would rather keep my skin clear in these days of sweltering summer.
hmm sometimes if I’m gunna be out all day or if in a rush I’ll wear minimal makeup.but if i’m going out at night i’ll wear full face makeup
I don’t necessarily decrease my makeup based on the season as much as I change it to be more appropriate to our heat and humidity. It’s 99 degrees here today, but it’s quite humid and a liquid foundation would melt off of my face.
hmmm well it’s kind of the same…i probably use more powder 🙁 cuz my face gets shiny plus this damn foundation doesn’t help :))
Definitely! Instead of foundation, I almost always opt for a tinted moisturizer. I like to use more cream products, since in the summer my skin is less dry and they’re easier for me to work with. I also make sure I up my SPF protection!
the only difference is that instead of foundation I wear tinted moisturizer. plus mine its DIY coz I mix my normal foundation with some moisturizer and I am done.
I’m actually using more products to achieve that “natural, summer bronzed” look. I’m mixing two foundations (Estee Lauder DW Light and Houglass Veil) to make my regular one lighter, added a cream bronzer (Chanel Universal), and using a lot of the browns from Naked Palette, layered over Mac Groundwork paintpot. Waterproof liner and Mascara.
For work, it’s about the same. I work in an office and the colors might change during the summer but the basic application doesn’t. For the weekend, I wear almost nothing when it’s really hot (and it’s 107 here!).
When I go to work, I wear the same amount of makeup as usual throughout the rest of the year to assure I remain looking put-together (which is probably still less than most as I don’t wear liquid foundation). On days off, if I’m going to the city, beach or pool, it’s a my Creamblend blush in Posey, Laura Mercier mineral powder (as I wear every day), Rubenesque or Indianwood paintpot on the eyes with eyeliner (mostly dark brown, sometimes a pop of teal or purple), mascara, and a fun bright lipgloss.
Absolutely! I pretty much stop wearing foundation in the summer months. If I am going to be in A/C for most of the day, I will wear tinted moisturizer. Other than that, just a dusting of Mac MSFN! I lighten up significantly on my eye makeup too, and usually stay away from liner (especially pencil) unless I have a day where I will be inside for most of the day.
I don’t get a summer holiday, so it’s generally speaking business as usual for me. This summer has been unusually cold so I haven’t had a day where I was like “y’know what? Too hot for makeup!”. I’m also not pretty enough to not put my face on for work, so I’d probably wear a full face anyway :/
A tinted spf moisturizer, concealer, brow gel, mascara and lip gloss. No eye shadow and often no blush…When its humid i just sweat it off.
I also use my spray on foundation, classified cosmetics, it works great in humid hot weather.
ive stopped wearing makeup, and im going to continue to do so for the next 27 days as its ramadan for us muslims, the time when we fast for the majority of the day. not that we arent allowed. Its a bit of a relief as i get an extra hour and a half in bed before work now.
Totally. I’m off makeup for Ramadan. Just relying on a moisturizing clear lip balm and trying to keep my skin moisturized. I have been wanting to cheat and use under-eye Concealer, but since we wash our faces before we pray I’d prolly end up washing it off. Anyone know of a good waterproof concealer?
amazing concealer. My eyes water really badly in the wind and the concealer stayed there
I think I do…less eyeshadow if any, that’s for sure.
Though it backfired on me the other day when I decided that I felt “summery,” wore no makeup to work, then had to interview Felicia Day live in front of 2000 web viewers. >.< Never again.
Since I work in fashion and am under fluorescent lights all day, I definitely can’t get away with no makeup, even despite the heat here. But I do lighten it up quite a bit, I use a buildable foundation so I can make it as sheer and light as possible, minimal blush and concealer and pretty neutral eye makeup. If I’m not working I’m not wearing makeup at all, and I wash it all off as soon as I get home from work!
Yes! It’s just too damn hot!
Mine routine is pretty much the same actually for all 12 months. I clean the dirt and oils off of my face with Witch Hazel (either alone or after cleansing- doesn’t matter). I put on my face and eye cream, and wait for it to sink in. After that is concealer for my under eye circls, a light wash of grey shadow (sometimes another color, but grey is my “go to”), and mascara. 🙂
I took a summer course for school over the summer, and I kid you not, I didn’t wear makeup at all! The place where my class was didn’t have air condition, so I honestly would have been slowly melting away… However, when I go out with friends or to the mall, I do wear some makeup. But, I definitely lighten it up with a tinted moisturizer, cream products, and waterproof mascara!
I don’t wear my foundation much in the summer so that’s what I dropped in my makeup routine, but my eyes and lips is a must have at anytime
I have definitely cut down my routing for summer…
1) Tinted Moisutrizer, Light Powder and Bronzer
2) Sin (UDPP), Mascara and Liner
3) Jack Black in Grapefruit and Ginger
On my “barest” summer days, I’ve been wearing tinted moisturizer, mascara and a bright blush. But even my heavier makeup days in summer are more low key — I add some black eyeliner to my top lash line, some lip gloss and a nude shimmery eyeshadow. That’s about it.
I really love to experiment with different looks so if the day is cooler I’ll try some more advanced looks…but its been SO hot here this entire summer that I just cant do it. I dont have air conditioning so putting on makeup in the morning is like doing it in a sauna…so I usually just put some tinted moisturizer, a bit of blush, mascara and a coral lipgloss for my everyday look…takes 2 minutes.
Oh definitely. Being out of school, I haven’t had much of a reason to wear makeup. Majority of my time has been spent dog sitting and doing extracurricular activities like summer dance, helping with dance camps, and now swim. It’s better for me not to being wearing little to no makeup.
Haha! I meant “It’s better for me to be wearing little to no makeup.” I accidentally put a “not” in there.
Yes…I always have less makeup I use in the summer typically. But this past winter I also started a much lighter use of makeup. Once I really started to see amazing skin I was getting from newer, better products and also now going on yr 2 I think it is – maybe 3 with my Clarisonic..I rejoice in my skin. It’s in better shape then it’s been since I was done with most break outs and my skin looked pretty darn good in my 20’s.
If anything I like to amp up my makeup using bright and bold shadows and lip colors. Summer for me is a time to experiment and find what looks good and what doesn’t, that way i don’t look like a clown going back to school. Since I find myself having a lot of free time, I experiment and create a look, wash it off, and repeat. I also find myself loving to go out in public with bold and bright mkaeup. I feel in the winter for me its too cold, and I’m too lazy to wear a lot of makeup.
I stopped wearing eye makeup completely. It runs and looks horrible. I live in Missouri, so it’s HOT 24/7.
Now I wear concealer, foundation, loose powder, and blush.
Since it’s summer I’m pretty much without makeup 6 out of 7 days and when I do put on some to run errands or to go to the mall it’s Concealer, Mineralize Skinfinish, a wash of UD Smog(my go to color) and Lipglass. So my beauty routine has slimmed down dramatically.
Yes, with reluctance. This summer I find myself wearing almost no mascara and really enhancing my lips with bright coral/pink lipstick and coordinating blush. I have been rather complacent during the hot weather. To my amazement I look well.
actually on the contrary, i found that i’ve amped it up! living on the jersey shore, i just wanna enjoy the hot weather and look festive for summer at work and at the beach, so i find myself reaching for more bright-colored eyeliners (UD 24/7) and a coral/orange lipstick. and for this hot, humid weather, my face can’t hold any more than just SPF!
Yes! BB cream with spf for oily skin, cheek tint, eyeliner, mascara, and a pink or coral lipstick for everyday. For special events, I wear more colorful shadows. I’ll never be caught without a bold lips!
