Have you ever purchased a brand's "vault" or mega-set?

Oh, definitely, at least a few times! For me, it’s more about buying all the shades in an efficient manner — less time to add all the shades to my cart, and the price-per-item is usually cheaper.

Nope. For starters, the prices are too high and if it’s a brand I like (why would I even consider such a large purchase otherwise?) chances are I already have some of the items included in the “vault”. I suppose if I were a makeup artist or had a makeup blog like you do, Christine, it would make good sense and be good value but for a person who just wears makeup to please herself, it doesn’t make any sense.

I almost did – Urban Decay’s Naked vault and then Pat McGrath had a bundle just recently. I was considering the vault to give out for gifts but my intended recipients preferred other brands. I still am going back-and-forth about the Pat McGrath palettes but I guess I should just stop trying to force it. If I’m not going to get them now, I’m not going to get them.

No I never have and doubt that I ever would. I spend a lot of money on makeup and I enjoy makeup but the prices for vaults are usually very high and if I would use all of the items in the vault then maybe it would be a smart move but it just never happens. My favorite shades are pretty specific and there are always shades that just would not suit me or are not my preference. I would rather spend that large chunk of money on products I know will work for me and that I would love.

Definitely not. I have never been a “collector”, which I think you’d have to be to want to buy one of these (I mean, if you’re not reviewing them all for a blog!). There are a couple of formulas I know I like and when I want something in a new color I look to see if there’s a dupe in those formulas first, but that doesn’t mean I want EVERYTHING in that formula – lots of colors don’t look good on me or don’t fit into my lifestyle.

While I haven’t purchased a vault set, I’ve only been tempted to do so once. When NYX had a vault of all their soft matte lip creams, I seriously considered purchasing but didn’t and I don’t really regret it. I have so many lip products in various shades, finishes and colors, I could create a vault (or three) on my own.

Yes, I got the Zoeva Graphic Eves Vol. 2 set of eye pencils a couple of years ago and it was seriously fantastic! I used Glance and Rock n Roll Bride up completely and ordered backups. They are all still going strong!

Never! Generally because it is too expensive and many of the vaults are about lipsticks. I am really fussy about my lipstick shades and a good 80% of the shades are those I wouldn’t wear. Ditto for eyeshadows too. If it is a brand that I am familiar with, then I probably have the products I like the best anyway

No-it’s just that none of them have really appealed to me yet. Well, one did appeal to me-the Kat Von D Saint and Sinner eyeshadow palette-but I didn’t have enough money to buy it at the time because I was buying Christmas gifts, and when I did have the money the palette was already discontinued.

A few, I am a beauty junkie. The Pat McGrath lipsticks, the MUFE Eyeliner Vault, and the Stila Glitter and Glow Vault. If it is something I know I am going to use I go for it because the price makes sense to me. So far all of them have worked for me and I am happy with all of my purchases.

No, it doesn’t interest me because often there are a lot of shades I wouldn’t wear on a day to day basis. With the alternative colored lipsticks that’s on trend these days, one will sometimes find a turquoise or grey lavender in the vault and it’s not a shade that’s wearable on me. I really did consider splitting with someone the bite amuse bouche lip vault because I love the formula, but again, too many colors we wouldn’t reach for often..

Nope, never. Like everyone else has said, I normally don’t have the money to shell out all at once, and I normally don’t like all the shades. The only exceptions would be if Bite released a multistick vault or if Fenty released new Matchstix shades and had them in vault form, and then I MIGHT invest.

Nope! But I have drooled looking at a few. Just too much, expense and sizing is often huge then I would run of space to accommodate other adventures. But they look so, so tempting!

Nope, it’s never been worth it to me. Even though they’re usually discounted (compared to buying all the shades individually), I know I still wouldn’t get enough use out of them to justify the price because I know I wouldn’t use the majority of the shades (e.g. KVD’s lipstick collections).

P.A. Avatar

Nope – but been tempted! Considering I have pretty specific preferences and that I don’t wear makeup frequently enough to justify huge sets I won’t be buying any soon. The high price point is also something that would discourage me from purchasing, if I’m not using much of the product it’s not a good value to me.
