Have you ever had someone else choose what products to use for a look?

Have you ever had someone else choose what products to use for a look? Like a friend or significant other?

I’ve definitely asked Shaun to pick colors in the past! I haven’t done it in awhile, but I know I have in the past.

Thanks to Sarah for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I’ve only asked friends to the extent of which product I should use, given a choice between two, which I’d already chosen. I don’t think I’ve ever asked a significant other, other than how the overall look worked.

Not not really. I’ve had makeup counter people suggest certain colors for me but I’ve never sat in a chair and had someone else take over hehe.

My daughter who is two is very opinionated! If she doesn’t like it she says, “Ma Mak you ugly. I do better for you so you pretty.” Then she goes and grabs what she thinks looks better. And she likes pinks and bright colors, scary!

Christine you should have a blog post or video where Shaun does your makeup! It would be interesting to see if the husband of one of the best beauty bloggers on the net has learned a thing or two, and it would also be cool to see what products he would choose out of the MILLIONS (ok maybe not that much) products you have!

When i have no idea what to do with my makeup i ask my husband to pick out a look. He usually tells me to put on a lot of mascara with black eyeliner, no eyeshdadow, pink blush, and red lipstick.

Sometimes, my Husband will say, “I love that look you do with (the purple smokey eye)(silver glitter)(whatever)”. If I don’t have anything particular in mind, I’ll do that. Many times, while I’m applying makeup, my nine-year old daughter comes in to “consult”. The Girl has a great sense for makeup, and I often take her advice. 😉

when me and my boyfriend first began dating, i asked him what colour eyeshadow should i wear, he then went on to give me the colour eyeshadow, plus the crease colour, the highlight colour, and the cheek and lip colour, which were all seasons colours and style. I was just looking back at him wide eyed thinking what the hell. He then told me his secret indulgence is that he likes to read the glossy mags that his sister leaves lying around at home.

I definitely ask my boyfriend often, to pick my colors.. He usually picks the same two colors every time – purple and green.. Lol. And I end up picking my own colors after that. I’m beginning to think it’s a ploy to get me to stop asking. Hah.

I’ve had makeup applied at makeup counters, Prescriptives, Ulta-BE, and Sephora, their choice and have really loved any of them. I’me very self conscious of my complexion d/t Rosacea and spider veins. They all seemed to go to lightly on the foundation coverage. Maybe I’ve applied my make up too heavily but I get a lot of compliments so I don’t think that’s the case.

Yes, makeup sometimes becomes a very social thing for me and a way to bond with others. So yes, I usually narrow down products but then ask my best friends, or my mom or my boyfriend or the online community….

Sometimes. I’ll ask my roommate some days what colors I should do or if she wants me to do any makeup for her. I also have a running joke with one of the pharmacists I work with on the night shift (we’ve known each for years) about “bold lip weekends,” where I ask him what bright lip color I should wear to cheer up the gloom of pulling forty hour, four day weekend together. 😛

When I was a teenager many moons ago before the Sephora and Ulta age, I would ask the woman at the counter to help me. I really needed help. This was before the You Tube age. The SA would help me pick a shade or a color and make recommendations. I think more so then than now, they would have me sit on the chair and apply something on me. Rarely did I experience the snarkiness that I read here with SA. I would see someone with a certain brand to my liking and I would purchase it at Macys or I Magnin in SF. These SA at I Magnin fostered the way I select makeup today.

Yes, my sister or my niece pick a whole make up look if we are going out. Sometimes, my husband will choose a lipstick for me to wear or a nail varnish/polish.
