Have you ever bought something (non-beauty) because it was the color of a favorite beauty product?

Have you ever bought something (non-beauty) because it was the color of a favorite beauty product? Maybe red heels that match your favorite red lipstick?

Oh, yes! I have definitely bought a few pairs of shoes because they reminded me of really fun shades of makeup I loved! I have a pair of flats that look almost like MAC Atlantic Blue eyeshadow that are darling. I also owned a pair of chartreuse heels, and chartreuse is one of my favorite colors to wear.

Mmh not on purpose, but recently I’ve been discovering how similar and almost exact between my clothes/shoes and my pastel or bright colorful makeup<3

Of course! I’ve been known to match my clothes to my makeup (instead of the other way around as a ‘normal’ person would do), and find accessories to be a particularly easy way to achieve this. My latest acquisition is a pashmina scarf that I simply had to buy because it’s the exact same shade of coral pink as MAC Crosswires. I couldn’t resist the idea of wearing the two together for a pop of color over an all-black outfit (as my outfits tend to be because black is easy and professional and fairly forgiving when it comes to accidents & spills). I’ve also bought hot pink heels for the same reason.

Makeup makes us pay attention to color (& texture) in a way we wouldn’t otherwise, and I like to think that such attention carries over into other aspects of our lives as well.

I’ve mostly done the opposite actually. Whenever certain colors pop out to me (like from a painting, flowers, wall colors, landscapes, foods–anything really), I try to see if I can get a similar shade in my cosmetic products. I suppose it helps bring back the memory of a pleasant experience.

Yes! I bought a shirt to match my favorite lipstick, and I’ve bought polish to match my favorite dress. Strangely enough, I’ve never actually worn the products with the clothes. A lot of the time I just go crazy for a certain color, and will buy anything in that specific color, now it’s plum, but I have gone through light pinkish-nude phases, and deep red phases, and coral phases. I feel a little silly afterwards though. For example I am now the proud owner of a number of adorable little full-length wool coats that perfectly match blushes I have, but they just sit in my closet because I live in one of the warmest parts of HAWAII (and yes I lived in the same place when I bought them). Whoops.

No, I don’t even think I’ve ever considered doing that. But I do tend to gravitate towards the same colors. I wear a lot of neutral colors (browns, taupes, black/white etc) and then darker shades of green, blue and purple. And that goes for both makeup and clothing. But that’s just out of personal preference for certain colors and not because I’m trying to match, I guess.

Never! I always assume I’ll have an eyeshadow color and a lipstick that will go perfectly with the dress, shoes, or accesories I am buying and if not well…that’s just another excuse to buy make up =P

Yes! I recently bought a “MAC Pink Nouveau” bag. There is a equal one that is ”MAC Saint Germain” and a “MAC Snob” one, but they were limited edition and are no longer available… I hope this doesn’t happen with these lipstick shades, they’re my favorite!

I don’t ofetn as I don’t really think about it.

I bought a yellow Sping/Summer dress in a yellow similar to MACs Going Bannanas eyeshadow, which I own. Probably the only time I will wear that eyeshadow. I also bought a yellow polish by Illamasqua in Rare. Not sure why I went bonkers for yellow but that polish wore so nice on my toes. I can’t wait for Spring!!!

oh yes! I love to buy hijabs (headscarves) that are in the different makeup colors, like the beautiful pink or mauve color of blush or hot pinks reds, peaches. They light up my face, way prettier than the starkness of black. Also forest greens and gunmetal colors that look like eyeshadow!

not often but i’ve been known to stray away from my usual colors because of makeup! namely corals and pastels, which i never used to even look at!

Yup for sure! My purse is purple, iPod magenta, and I own a lot of clothes that are in-line with the kind of colors I’d wear on my face and nails (green, purple, and can we pretend mustard yellow is the interpretation of gold?)!

Yes! I actually do that often. Most recently I got myself a shirt that has the color of Chanel Jade.It even has tiniest glitter on it,which makes it look even more like Jade:) And also I got some bracelet and ring which has the same effect of Chanel Graphite. When it comes to clothing, nearly %80 of my clothes are blacks and some other dark colors.the ones that are more colorful or different are often bought with the inspiration of make up.

I made a quilt for my daughter a few years back, and it was blocks of color – cream and a medium rose pink that is the same as my favorite lipstick – Macs Cosmo!

It was just the right color, and I found it at the fabric store, no problem! I’m a bit nuts!

Kristen Avatar

I don’t do it on purpose, but I’ve definitely noticed that the color scheme of my clothes is very similar to that of my favorite makeup shades.

For my personal wardrobe and makeup, I feel like certain colors suck me in just because I love the color itself (teal and chartreuse, for instance) and so I end up buying both clothing and makeup items because I like the color on myself. 😛 I hope that all made sense. ^^;
