Guerlain: Tsarina Eyeshadow Palette
Guerlain Tsarina Eyeshadow Palette ($58.00) from their fall collection is one of two palettes released (the other is Brun Mordore). Guerlain also released an Eye & Lip Palette called Volga Princess (which I haven’t seen yet).
Tsarina includes four shades: a coppery peach, an amber-copper, a raspberry burgundy, and a cool-toned purple-wine. The first three shades have great color pay off, but the darkest purple shade is on the sheerer side (but I wouldn’t call it sheer–it does give me decent color, just not great like the other three). All four have Guerlain’s amazing texture: soft, silky, and so, so easy to blend. The shimmer is subtle and not too frosty–very wearable. I found the mix of shades very appropriate for the fall season, too.
Some might not like that there’s not a real highlighter shade within the palette; the lightest shade is much bolder than most would choose for a highlighter. It’s not a big deal to me, because I very rarely use palettes by themselves unless I’m trying to show what you can do with *just* the palette.
Value wise? The eyeshadows are, by the ounce, the same price as MAC eyeshadows are. In a Guerlain eyeshadow palette, you get about 6.7 oz. of actual eyeshadow product for your money. Like their mega-giant single shadows, they’re a good value by weight, but they do require a larger up front investment. The packaging is luxe and solid; it doesn’t feel cheap, and there’s some heft to it. I love the design on the velvet pouch and on the case itself, which is special to this collection.
- Product: 9/10
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 8/10
- Packaging: 8/10
Recommendation: Guerlain fans will not be disappointed in the quality of this eyeshadow palette–if you enjoy these shades, I recommend it!

Oh, it’s gorgeous! A little too expensive for me though.
Guerlain is definitely a pricey brand to get involved in! Ahh, but they steal my heart so easily!
Ah, they stole my heart long time ago but I never could afford them 🙁 Still can’t because I don’t work yet but soon I hope 😀 🙂
I hope you can find a way to indulge every so often 🙂 Good luck on the work! Hope you can get it soon!
Hello,
thankyou so much for posting pics of this! I was really interested to see it. If your not too busy when you get a chance would you consider posting a look of you wearing this quad? That would be awesome!
I love your website I dont know how I found it but its great, you do a wonderful job, thankyou. =) Rebecca
No problem, Rebecca! I’ll certainly try!
This looks so luxe and princessy! The colours are beautiful and works together. I will definitely feel like a Tsarina when I wear this, that is if I run out and buy this now!
Let me know if you get it! It’s just such a pretty autumn-toned quad and makes me excited for fall!
How do the coppery shades look when combined with the darker shades? Can you do any looks? I’m afraid the amber-copper may be too orange by itself, or combined with the peach shade. When I travel for work, I don’t have time to put thought into color combos.
I’ll definitely try to post a look using this soon 🙂
I don’t think they come out too orange-y, definitely more of a copper look (more metallic, richer than orange), from what I’ve played with so far.
When are you going to present photos of Guerlain Holiday collection, Christine?
When I have them – I always post as soon as I am able to, sorry! 🙁 Trust me, I never hold back if I don’t have to! (Like if I’m told not to post x and y until z date.)
This is gorgeous, I have it myself. Haven’t used it yet though, it’s too pretty, lol.
Really looking forward to the Holiday collection by Guerlain, can’t wait to see the details on it, bet it’s gonna be gorgeous.
LOL! The need to swatch sort of made it easy to nix the design! It’s always pretty to look at, but I try not to let myself feel bad destroying it, LOL.
I try to use the sides not to mess up the design too much, so far Ive managed quite well with the other pretty palettes. 😉 Fortunately the Butterfly Voyage powder has the design all the way through, so using it doesnt mess it up too much (same with the Chantecaille palettes).
Ohh, smart! 🙂 I LOVE it when designs go *all the way* through. So much better!
Beautiful! I’ve never tried their shadows, but I am sorely tempted! My cart is currently full with BE, but I think I might have to empty and start over…
lol! Did you end up emptying your cart and picking up some Guerlain?
will you be swatching the cheek stain? I’m really interested in that – otherwise, the packaging is beautiful and the palette is a nice neutral that I think I already have similar.
I have the cheek stain, and it works well if you wear it directly to your cheeks with no base, if you use base, it kind of takes it away, for me it was kind of a bummer, plus you waste a lot of products because with one squirt you get a LOT of product that you can´t apply unless you want to look like a clown, I will be posting a video about it, search for me on You tube, my nickname is “etorig”. But try it at the counter, maybe your experience with the product will be a different one since I have oily skin.
Unfortunately I haven’t seen it at my local Guerlain 🙁
The packaging is gorgeous and the colors are beautiful!
Glad you like it!
I dont like Guerlains things. They have a really strong smell whetther it be foundation, lipstick. Their brushes are rubbish. And whatever I baught from them I regretted… So whenever I see that brand I run the other side. Just my two cents…
If you don’t like the scent they use, then yeah, you probably wouldn’t be a fan of their line since most things are scented (though I’ve never had any problems with it myself!).
The packaging is so gorgeous, but the colors wouldn’t work for me .
That’s too bad 🙁 Maybe another quad by them 🙂
i had this, love the packaging and the quality of the shadows, unfortunately the shades were too orange for me:( wish it had worked because it is a beautiful palette.
Oh no! That sucks 🙁
err, I dont think this is available at Drugstore.com !
Thanks, Izzy! Fixed it!
Love the packaging, so pretty.
That’s Guerlain for you, lol!
ho hum. those are very blah colors to me. while i love guerlains luxurious packaging, it still doesnt justify the price. maybe if they came out with a completely unique product that i couldnt dupe else where..
I can see why you’d say they’re blah, but at the same time, they’re very, very workable and easy to wear. The price per ounce is actually quite in line with other high end brands!
Thanks for letting us know that price per ounce these are the same as MAC, because I would have never guessed! I’m not a fan of these colours but I will definitely look at buying a quad from them in the future know that I know the price is actually “reasonable”.
No problem! I think it’s always important to consider volume vs. price, because it can be misleading!
I actually picked this up yesterday and love it! I was lucky enough to have my makeup done by their national mua, Marcus Monson, and he was fabulous and soo sweet. The look came out great! Perfect for fall and he even sat down and went over everything he did again to make sure I knew how to re-create the look. If he is out in your city, i defintely recommend booking with him. Up until yesterday I wouldnt even have thought to buy the palette cause I didnt know how I would use it.
Yay! So glad you’re lovin’ the palette, Jeye! Thanks for the tip, too!
The Brun Mordoré quad (441) is incredibly beautiful. I went to my local sephora and fell in love with it. The shadows are very soft, blendable and well-pigmented. Unfortunately, it was sold out. The good news is that it’s part of the permanent collection so I will get hold of it soon. There are two warm colours and two cool ones, but there isn’t one single shade I wouldn’t wear. It’s perfect!
It sounds gorgeous! So glad it’s permanent!
