Guerlain Meteorites Voyage Enchante Illuminating Matte Powder Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Meteorites Voyage Enchante Illuminating Matte Powder
Guerlain Meteorites Voyage Enchante Illuminating Matte Powder ($179.00 for 0.28 oz.) is supposed to mattify the skin while “instantly blur[ring] the appearance of small imperfections.” Guerlain says to apply it “over foundation to set it.” The powder has the brand’s signature violet scent, though I found it very subtle (which was a surprise, given Guerlain has tended to heavily scent their powders recently).
It’s incredibly soft and thin with a smooth texture with lightweight coverage that does mattify the skin without making it appear dry or powdery. I thought it would look chalkier against my complexion, but it didn’t, though it makes my skin appear lighter than it is, which I don’t think works out for me at all. I would disagree with Guerlain’s premise that it is a universal shade. The powder softens the appearance of pores, and the mattifying effect lasted for nine hours on me (my skin type is normal presently). I think that the pressed Les Voilettes ends up working very, very similarly to this, and I actually prefer the softer texture of Les Voilettes over the thinness of the powder in the holiday compact. The majority of the price tag is going towards the compact, which is hefty to hold. The product itself is good, but I don’t think it will work for every skin tone, and the packaging has to pull you in, otherwise there are plenty of alternatives (including ones by Guerlain). There is a small, pin-sized hole on the back, but I wasn’t able to successfully push the pan of product out, so refilling it may require some more creativity.

Which side is the product on?
Your left – it is written right on the photo on the side that it is on (there is a white line that splits the photo into halves) 🙂
I only see this working on the palest of the pale. Universal!? Where?
I am curious if anyone with darker skin than I has tried it with successful, because white powder just doesn’t seem universal to me at all.
Guerlain never disappoints when it comes to packaging, but for $ 180, this better take at least 5 years off my face! IDK, the swatch doesn’t look all the impressive to me, but as long as there is fragrance in their products, my wallet is safe.
It’s nice, but a lot of setting/finishing powders are similar, including ones offered by Guerlain itself at lower price points so it’s really a packaging thing, I’d say!
No doubt, the packaging is stunning! For $180, maybe they should’ve included a loop and/or chain, so you can wear as pendant, kind of like the Louboutin lipsticks !
It really looks pretty on you. Is it worth the price tag?
I don’t think it works with my skin tone, so I wouldn’t wear it again personally. The effect of the mattifying/brightening is nice, but it lightens my actual coloring unnaturally.
I’m not sure it’s worth an A grade actually. I can’t tell the difference.
it looks great!
Yay!
I think it’s pretty too!
Man, I didn’t want to want this, since I already own a few Meteorites and a similar Asian exclusive compact… but this looks lovely. The one I have is chalkier, even on my very fair skin. I can justify this, right?? haha.
If your wallet says you can 😉
It’s very pretty! Packaging usually gets me for ‘regular’ products and makes me really want them..but not with that price point! I do see the illuminating effect at least, so I’m glad it lives up to it’s name!
It’s a lot to splash out all at once!
I’m actually glad you feel this isn’t suited for your skin tone, lol. I wasn’t going to pay $179 for this. But, part of me has been curious . But, I barely use powder anymore and I do not like that whitening. Pretty to look at. But, not $179 worth if it can’t be used for me!
I’ll be sticking to my Les Voilettes pressed for my skin tone! Flatters me more since it is more my skin tone but still gives me a similar mattifying effect without dulling entirely.
I agree for myself as well. It’s nice for me that we have very similar skin tones. I use the same powder shades as you. But, these days, I only need setting powder on my t zone. I use meteorites on the tops of my cheeks and Hourglass under my eyes. I figured out to just let my foundation set a few minutes before applying powder blush/ highlight- minimizes dryness for me. This sold out in minutes at Neiman’s online. I sat there and literally watched it as I debated getting it.lol. I slept on it and decided it wasn’t worth it for me. 🙂
Sounds a sheer white version of Les Voilettes compact. I like that compact, and repurchased, but there are too small amount in it. If you tell me that it works like Les Voilettes, I’m going to skip this.
Btw about the packaging, I prefer the meteorite compact.
Thanks for the review !
No problem, Mica! I really think the effect is similar, especially with respect to setting/mattifying (without dulling!).
I love your photos. They are clear and accurate. I bought the last two lights with flash with softbox and umbrella. I spend a lot of time learning how lighting, but unfortunately photos do not come out so I wanted. The colors are quite different than in reality. I do not know if I should ask, but please tell me how to set the lights and the camera (parameters) to pictures came out clear and sharp ?
Thanks, Agata! I have everything listed here: http://www.temptalia.com/beauty-blogging-tools-and-resources
i think this looks lovely. i’m pretty fair, so i think it would work great for me…i use regular violettes powder only if my foundation is a little too light, as it give me too much color. but why $179??!!i don’t think i can justify when i have other powders that work well. i wish it came in pan form.
p.s. i love your whole look in this photo!
Thank you, Beka! 🙂
$179.00!? Good lord, maybe the packaging is pretty, but that in no way justifies the price they’re asking. Hourglass makes a superior product for 1/5 the price. This is an easy pass for me. It also turns me off to the brand in general.
I believe every year (or just about) they do a pressed Meteorites in hefty packaging like this and pop on that $100+ price tag.
I thought that price was a typo…. eep. For that amount I could buy 3 backups of my beloved Chanel loose powder and still have more than 20 bucks left.
It is quite the pricey piece!
If it lightens your NC25 skin, I’m terrified of what this would make my NC40 ( in Pro Longwear) complexion look like! Yeeks! And yet, I love its smoothing effect and GORGEOUS packaging. But it’s such a white based powder that I already know it just will not work on us darker tones.
Oh, as an aside, I lurrrve your eye look! Looks to perfectly dupe the great eye look you did using all the neutral shades in the UD Spectrum Palette ?
I couldn’t believe they said universal 🙁
Me either, me either, smh. ?
I will not get this, but oh, how I want it. I’m on the pale side, not very pale, but pale enough for this, I think. If I somehow win a lot of money, I wil buy this, chances are very slim though, I must admit.
Still the packaging is a thing of beauty, a bit 1920s decadent, I would love to own it. Maybe if I don’t get too tempted by anything else (hahaha) and only buy this…
It would definitely work for someone lighter than I! 🙂
For the money, I would have thought they’d put a snowflake on top or mimic the lipstick case’s design. The powder is beautiful, but it pulls much more white that I’d have guessed. It doesn’t seem “universal” at all.
The case definitely could have been more unique, I think!
I actually think it looks really good on you in this picture Christine, but maybe it wasn’t so great in person. Anyway, I don’t have $179 to spend on a face powder…. I mean the compact looks great and everything but that’s a lot of money for a pressed powder.
Oh, it is a lot for a single item, I think! A real packaging play, I’d say.
Your arm swatch makes it look just like a Physician’s Formula powder I just bought. I don’t remember the name but it’s the one in a mosaic pattern where the colors are white, pink, peach, and green. It doesn’t have any shimmer, though. I wish it had just a tiny bit.
It wouldn’t surprise if they had something in the same vein, as they have some Meteorite “dupes” so-to-speak.
Can’t even notice a difference in the side-by-side
It is a setting powder, so a lot of the difference is over time – e.g. having the finish stay the same over eight hours vs. makeup breaking down or skin appearing oilier. I can definitely see the lighter appearance with the powder, and from the get-go, it made my skin appear a lot smoother with less visible pores!
The price is too much for what you get!
It is a lot!
I can’t tell which side the product is on. I think this is an unnecessary product, unless you have specific skin issues. And I don’t want to pay for packaging……
It does a good job keeping everything in place and looking matte, but you can get something just as good for less for sure!
Since when is white powder universal? lol. If it makes you look unnaturally pale I can only imagine how bad it would look on my NC-35 face and anyone with darker skin! Yikes. I feel like this would have been a much better product if it was translucent, that packaging is sooo pretty
It’s sheer but still white enough that it lightens on me!
It looks like it would be best on very fair skin. That’s my skin tone, but, out of my price range.
Your eye makeup looks gorgeous by the way. Maybe I’ll splurge on some Tom Ford 🙂
Thank you, Valerie!
The powder, while nice, I will pass on. Not only because of the price, but mainly because I have the ‘Les Voilettes’ compact (per your awesome review).
However, that eye look! *swoon*!! The color combination is simply amazing especially the smokey lower lash line. Saved, definitely inspiration for tomorrow. Bravo! UGH! Beautiful.
Aww, thank you! 🙂
Les Voilettes is so good!!
Do you think that this could be used for a subtle universal matte highlighter then Christine?
Universal only if you are very light in your skin tone! I would never use the word universal with this product.
I’ve wanted one of these for quite a while, but this iteration is definitely not the one! If anything, I like to look more tan, definitely not more pale. Although I adore pale creamy complexions, I just look sallow when I’m pale bc of my yellow/olive undertones.
There have been better ones for sure! I long for Wulong!
I have my fair share of expensive makeup. Heck, Tom Ford, Chanel, ok but I seriously thought this price tag was a typo. Maybe it’s that I have never really been drawn to the Guerlain line but what in the devil’s name would make this $180. They have their meteorites for like $60, how is this any different?
The price is totally over the top for sure – it is all packaging!
Even two days out from Halloween, a ghostly glow is not really what I’m going for with a finishing powder!
LOL!
Looks like the perfect Powder for my pale skin to give me a fairy glow. What did you use to apply it ?
Chikuhodo powder brush!
Hi Christine! Happy Holidays. What a gorgeous product. I can see this working perfectly on my very fair NC10-15 skin tone. If by any prayer you decide that you will not use it, I will *GLADLY* purchase it from you. With a huge smile.
PS. Thank you for all that you do. I know that you probably have a team of people to help you, but if you’re ever in need of someone, I’m a certified MUA (with back issues), so working from home for someone would be an incredible opportunity. Just putting it out there. Hugs.
Thank you so much, Amy! 🙂 I appreciate your offer – it is very kind of you! Happy holidays!
