Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: About Face Glitter Eye Paints, Charlotte Tilbury Highlighters

Weekend plans: I expect to take some photos on Monday/Tuesday, so I’ll likely spend most of the weekend writing reviews and entering dupes. Last weekend, I managed to clear through the backlog at that point, so I am behind again but not THAT behind. Let’s not get THAT behind again.

Hanging out with the puppies — Lorax has his eyes open, and I also have his sister, Yeps, with him, who outweighs him by half a pound! Last Sunday, Max passed away suddenly despite being totally fine four hours before he passed. The rescue assured me that there was nothing that I could have done, and it was nothing that I did that caused it. He didn’t even make it to the ER that is how fast he went downhill and passed on his own.

What’s one trait that you’re happy to have? I seem to have an eye for efficiency, so it’s nice not to waste time, I guess, lol!

Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:

  • Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
  • Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
  • Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
  • Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)

This week's doggo photo/video...

So sorry to hear about Max! I’m sure he felt loved and cherished while with you. The little ones can go downhill so fast, there’s not much to be done, and at least that way they don’t suffer.

Recent purchases/Rediscoveries: I was at the outlets and Cosmetics Company had a bunch of MAC’s Love Me Lipsticks on sale for $5. I picked up My Little Secret, which has been discontinued and is a bright pinky-coral. I think it will look nice for spring/summer.

Weekend Plans: I’m running my first half marathon on Sunday! I’ve run many other races, but this is my first one of this distance and I’m quite nervous. My primary goal is to finish; secondary goal is to run the whole way. Fingers crossed — the weather says we will have rain so eek.

What’s one trait that you’re happy to have?: Persistence? I tend to do what I say I’m going to do, so maybe what I mean is reliability. I think it’s a good trait!

Christine Avatar

It was a real surprise! I fed both of them at 7AM, went in at 11AM for the next feeding, but poor Max was in bad shape by then and passed about an hour later (I got him to the rescue at 11:20AM), but there were no signs that stuck out to me at 7AM 🙁 He had internal bleeding so likely some congenital/immune-related issue where his poor body attacked itself.

Good luck on your first half marathon!

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’m just so excited about my Terra Moons order arriving yesterday!
Weekend plans: Going to my first party since the pandemic!
What’s one trait that you’re happy to have? I’m dependable.

I’m so, so sorry about Max. Big hugs. He couldn’t have asked for a better foster home.

RECENT PURCHASES: None
REDISCOVERIES? None

WEEKEND PLANS: We had our own loss here, so we will be doing a pet burial. My son’s guinea pig deteriorated astonishingly fast from an illness that he was too old to recover from. We had to euthanize him yesterday afternoon. He was almost 8 years old. He was as smart, sociable, and empathetic as any cat or dog we’ve had. A feisty yet friendly personality. We all miss him so much. After spending the majority of the last 48 hrs cuddling him, my arms feel so empty.

Earlier in the week, we discovered a slow drip under our dishwasher that rotted the top layer of flooring. Luckily, the moisture barrier did its job, and the sub-flooring is fine. We need to arrange purchase and delivery of new tiles, set up installation, and buy a new dishwasher.

WHAT’S ONE TRAIT THAT YOU’RE HAPPY TO HAVE?
Perseverance, stick-to-it-ness, stubbornness… whatever you want to call it. I get things taken care of.

Genevieve Avatar

First of all, really sad to read of your son’s guinea pig – they are really friendly animals. He had lived a good life with you and no doubt, was much loved. No wonder your arms are feeling so empty. A very sad decision you had to make.
Secondly – what an absolute bummer that your dishwasher was leaking and thank goodness the sub flooring was fine, otherwise it could cost you a great deal of money to fix it up. Hopefully there are some good sales on for you to purchase your new dishwasher.

Genevieve Avatar

How sad tha little Max didn’t make it – you must have been quite distraught and upset Christine. You are a wonderful puppy Mumma and I am sure that you did everything you could for him.
It’s lovely to read that the other pups are thriving and gaining weight. They look so cute. Are you still doing night feeds?

Recent Purchases: A couple – I was looking for a new container to house my makeup brushes and it was a bit like Goldilocks – some were too big, some had too many other containers with it and others were not quite the right size. Who knew that it was so hard to find? I went into some stationary places – and the girls there sympathised with me, but no luck. Eventually in Target, I found a pencil/pen holder that was just the right size and I am now able to house my brushes according to size and usage.
Next I was after a new sensitive skin exfoliating scrub. I had tried Cetaphil’s and it was quite rough, anyway, a former pupil of mine, who works at Priceline, put me onto Avene’s gentle scrub and it works really well. A bit more expensive, but worth it.

Rediscoveries: Smashbox Petal Metal – a beautiful, soft rose gold palette.

Weekend Plans: It’s going to be a VERY hot weekend (it has been quite hot for the past week), so we are all going to the local pool for the day. Olivia is coming to spend the weekend with us afterwards.
Usually when I have had her brothers, she has been up with her other grandparents with the horses, but I am very mindful about treating them all equally, so I have invited her to stay with us by herself for a couple of days.
Sunday is going to be a tad cooler, so we are going back to the playcentre that I took her brother to last weekend (a big hit) and on Monday we are going out to my sister’s place to have a look at her jewelry – which Olivia is interested in. My sister has done a number of jewelry courses over the years.
So, all in all, it should be a great weekend.

One Trait You’re Happy to Have: Kindness -I think being helpful and kind to others is really important and my friends and family tell me that I am a very kind person.

Mariella Avatar

I’m really eager to see how those Charlotte Tilbury highlighters rate with you, Christine. Sad to hear that one of the pups didn’t make it but you certainly gave him the best chance!

Purchases: finally was able to get to Sephora to buy a jar of Tatcha The Dewy Cream. I loved the sample in my “birthday gift” and even though it’s so much more expensive than my go to face creams, I felt it was special enough to fork out the dosh! Rediscoveries: the old UD 15th Anniversary palette. Chase, MIA, Deeper and a few other shades in there are phenomenal and have stood the test of time.

Weekend plans: invited a friend for dinner tomorrow. Both Saturday and Sunday will involve the gym because I’m using it as an adjunct to my physio and I’m also just really glad to be back at the gym.

One trait I’m happy to have: I was going to say “that I raised 3 really great kids” but I don’t know that that’s a trait – it was hard work and luck. So I think it’s probably that I don’t take myself too seriously.

Genevieve Avatar

I think that having a parental style that turns out 3 great kids is a pretty great trait – not everyone has it. Yes, it does involve a lot of grit and determination and you (and your husband) must have that too.
Congratulations on getting to Sephora to purchase your Tatcha cream and I hope between the gym and the physio, your knee gets better and stronger.

Mariella Avatar

It’s easy to be smug but I know, and I’m sure you know, some great kids who didn’t have the best parenting and the other way ’round – some great parents who raised kids who failed at life, so to speak. And then there are those parents who almost make it a foregone conclusion that their kids will never succeed at anything – my best friend’s sister and her husband have an adult son who has always been allowed to live in the basement, stay up all hours gaming, etc. He has never held a job because it would mean getting up, getting dressed, turning up on time… He is not special needs though he might have a few learning issues but I see young people who have special needs, who have developmental delays, etc. working – there is a young man at my gym, for example. He is hardworking, personable, does his tasks, is polite and friendly with clients, etc. and turns up on time, properly dressed, etc. But my friend’s nephew – it was easier for his parents not to push him, not to encourage him and now, in his mid 20’s, he sleeps most of the day, finds it a huge inconvenience to get up and get dressed when his aunt (my friend) wants to take the family out for a nice dinner. Anyway, sorry for that particular rant – it’s just happened again and my friend (the aunt, who has no children but doesn’t understand why this “kid” is allowed to be so lazy) is quite alarmed and also hurt a bit by his behaviour (my friend is also quite wealthy and just inherited her mother’s house; I get the feeling that nephew thinks auntie will leave all her money to him so he doesn’t have to be capable of anything).

I am LOVING my Tatcha cream…over priced but I felt I deserved the “indulgence”.

This is such sad news about little Max passing away. Unfortunately, this happens fairly frequently with very young puppies and kittens who have been separated from their mothers due to one of a myriad of factors. I read of this occurring quite often amid the many cat/kitten rescues I follow on IG. They call it “fading kitten syndrome”. I’m very glad that Lorax has been reunited with one of his littermates, Yeps, though.

Purchases/rediscoveries: Nothing purchased. Rediscovered my tube of MAC Among The Fireflies the other day, but it now has that dreaded crayon odor, so I will see if trimming the end of and sanitizing it can save it. Hope so, because it is one of the few nudes I own that always looks good on me.

Weekend plans: Just walked across the street to the Post Office to send off a few packages. Zoom meeting tomorrow morning. Probably just get some laundry done.

What’s the one trait you’re glad to have? I’ll have to get back to you all later on that one!

Christine Avatar

Yes, it is true, neonates are fragile creatures, so while it’s not common, it’s also not infrequent to lose one, unfortunately. I’m really glad I asked about that topic when I learned about tube feeding the pups because I felt like it did help me prepare myself (to some degree) for the possibility.

Seraphine Avatar

So sorry about Max. I’m glad Lorax is doing ok (love the name!).

Recent Purchases: Shiseido ModernMattte Powder Lipstick in Disrobed…what a stunning shade! Pictures online don’t do it justice. I received another lipstick from Macy’s that I had ordered during their sale, but it was spoiled, so I have to return it. Unfortunately, I put it on without sniffing it first, and then I couldn’t get rid of the disgusting taste it left behind for hours, even after brushing my teeth and using mouthwash. I hope they don’t give me a hard time about returning it.

Weekend Plans: Relaxing, reading (“Kindred” by Octavia Butler), putting away holiday decorations, visiting family.

What’s one trait that you’re happy to have? Creativity

Genevieve Avatar

I just looked up Disrobed – and wow – what a great shade it is! Even I like that rosy nude shade. No wonder you love it.
And I do hope Macy allows you to return the other awful lipstick – it is clearly ‘off’ – so I’m sure they will.
Take it easy this weekend.

Genevieve Avatar

Hi Sarah and Seraphine
I am always on the lookout for a great book to read and thought I would give this one a try – since you’ve recommended it Sarah. It was actually at our local library and I have just reserved it after reading the blurb. It sounds very interesting.

I’m so sorry you lost a pup Christine it must have been so stressful!

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: PML Mothership Mega Celestial Nirvana.

Weekend plans: Our little pup Lex was neutered, microchipped and had 3 baby teeth pulled yesterday. We will be coddling him and hopefully take him for a short walk, he lives for his daily walk.

What’s one trait that you’re happy to have? I am very calm, cool and collected.

brendacr1 Avatar

Little L as we call him sits at the bottom of the stairs and barks to be carried up, he has the drama queen role down perfectly. We should have called him Yoda, everyone comments on his ears all the time, he’s a 5 lb yorkie with an attitude.

Nikki Avatar

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’m not sure whether I’ll buy both this weekend or hold one back for next week or longer, but I have a Sephora cart and an Ulta cart ready.
Sephora cart: Tom Ford lip color discovery kit, 2 backup Fenty Pro Filt’r 110 concealers, Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Cream lipsticks (shades: Exotic Orchid, Crushed Rose, and Caprice de Rouge), and maybe a travel-size Viktor & Rolf Good Fortune for the quadruple points (this weekend only).
Ulta cart: Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Cream lipsticks in Moderato, French Touch, Nuit Parisienne, Berry Noir, Blush Classique, Bisou Bisou, French Coeur, and French Idol.

Weekend plans: Work all day and weekly grocery run tomorrow (the grocery run was supposed to be tonight, but it got pushed back because it looked like the roads might be icy). Work is closed Monday for MLK Day.

What’s one trait that you’re happy to have? I tend to be a bit stubborn, which can be helpful when I have something I want to accomplish.

Sarah Avatar

Recent Purchases: Chanel Rouge Allure 169 New Purchases: Rouge Tentation isn’t exactly the red I was looking for but I have grown to like it and look forward to creating looks with it.

Gucci Satin Lipstick in 600 Fallen Sparrow (repurchase) is one of my favorite colors and I repurchased it because it is so unique a color even though the lipstick is heavily perfumed.

Colourpop lite stix in Winter Nights was a must have after the Christine’s review combined with my love of light purple/violet highlighters. (Why did you go away, becca?)

Weekend Plans: Church, Book Club, reading and recovering from my asthma flare

One Trait I Am Happy to Have : my empathy

Genevieve Avatar

I hope your asthma has settled down, it is no fun at all struggling to breathe. My husband is a serious asthmatic, so I have an understanding of what you are going through. You have some lovely new makeup too – Fallen Sparrow is quite a unique shade (and sad to read it is heavily perfumed – why brands why?)

Nicole Avatar

I’m so sorry to hear that Christine. I understand how difficult that can be. I had to unexpectedly say goodbye to my oldest Beagle Daisy this week. She was 14. She was my my “little girl”. I adopted her sister Maggie the Beagle a year ago, and our weekend is mostly adjusting to life without Daisy and our family with the 2 of us.

Celesta Avatar

Recent Purchases: I ordered a sampler perfume set from Henry Rose that I’m excited to get. My Clionadh preorder came in. I purchased the Holiday eyeshadow trio, Niello, Solder, Statue Garden, and Hilt.

Rediscoveries: My Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream and Cover Girl Better Skin Concealer. They’re oldies for me, but I love them so much.

Weekend plans: Just some things I’ve wanted to get done at home for a while. Hopefully getting outside some and playing games with my husband.

What’s one trait that you’re happy to have? A weird ability to see how situations will play out.
