Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: New Lisa Eldridge liquid eyeshadows!
Weekend plans: I’ve been out of sorts for the last two weeks or so, and I’d like to try to make an effort to get back into my normal routine this weekend. We will probably take Winston somewhere to get out of the house for a little bit! My big priority is to take photos/do swatches today.
Do you have a favorite artist? Agnes Cecile!
Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:
- Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
- Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
- Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
- Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)
This week's doggo photo/video...

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
purchase – Ardell Wispies Naked lashes,
rediscovery – Natasha Denona Triochrome palette.
Weekend plans: I’ve also been feeling sick, so I will be cat sitting and staying in – likely catching up on Doctor Who!
Do you have a favorite artist? Yoko Ono
I hope you feel better soon Kira – is it a cold or something more serious?
Recent Purchases: I finally found a green scent that works well on me on my recent trip to Disney World: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca, which I bought at the fabulous Guerlain boutique in Epcot’s France pavilion. It’s a gorgeous blend of clover, lemon, mint, green tea, and lily-of-the-valley.
Weekend plans: Relaxing, putting up (more) Christmas decorations, and sticking to my diet.
Do you have a favorite artist? I love Pre-Raphaelite art, especially Rossetti and Waterhouse. I also like early 20th-century German Expressionism.
Our Christmas decorations bag has gone missing since the family moved out at the beginning of the year, so I have had to buy some – which is lovely because I have bought quite a few new items and they look lovely on the tree.
The perfume sounds beautiful and it would be perfect for the Christmas season. Good on you for sticking to your diet too.
Well, I went completely off my diet on vacation (and loved every delicious minute of it!!!) and I gained a few pounds, but now that I’m home, I’m back on Weight Watchers again.
Holidays and diets do not mix! I bet you enjoyed a ton of delicious meals – you deserve it after all the stress and hard work you have done this year.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Rediscovered Juvia’s The Nomad Palette. I really don’t want to like Juvia’s shadows as much as I do, or at least their old formual. Newer Juvia’s shadows I have gotten have been way more hit or miss, but this palette is very solid. No new purchases, but my husband got some kind of box from Beauty Bay that has all kinds of different stuff in it, and I have enjoyed their hair oil and cleansing balm a lot. There are other brands too, but these are the stars thus far. I am trying to maintain my low-buy and prepare to renew the vow to spending less in the new year. Next year will be about not just using up makeup & beauty stuff before I buy more but also art supplies.
Weekend plans: Going to the aquarium this afternoon for a couple of last-minute gifts. They have plush isopods and blobfish, and the friend I am getting them for will go absolutely bonkers when she sees them. Also cleaning the apartment while watching holiday movies this afternoon. Tomorrow we are going to Gilroy Gardens, which is a small regional amusement park. They open for evenings around Christmas and have lights and hot cocoa and the whole deal. Google “gilroy circus trees” to see why this is actually way cooler than I make it sound.
Do you have a favorite artist? So so so so many. In the past decade or so I have really made a lot of effort to consume more art on a regular basis. I like things that are vibrant and colorful and made with love, and these in turn inspire me to make art as well.
Who wouldn’t love to receive a plush blobfish? They are the essence of ugly cute. Nobody is old enough to know Jimmy Durante, but blobfish look just like him. There’s so much deep sea discovery this year. Anyone for a not-so-plush viperfish? Those things scared me a bit, until I read that they were <6”. Long pointy fang teeth that don’t fit in his mouth….The exploration is terrific. But the fact that some of these depth dwellers are washing up on beaches is a very bad climate change omen.
Yes, sometimes the more eldritch sea creatures turn up and it is very humbling to the human psyche. I like a lot of the weirder ones, like anglerfish and hagfish and things like that. I never lost, or perhaps I just regained, my childlike sense of wonder around nature and science. The aquarium my husband works for does a lot of marine research and conservation, so I feel like we get to learn for both fun and for the good of the planet.
Getting gifts from the Aquarium is such a good idea and you can always get something quite different and unique in their gift shops. I am sure your friend will love your purchases for her.
I just looked up Gilroy Gardens – what a wonderful place it seems to be. I am sure my grandchildren would love something like this (and so would I), we don’t have really any theme parks around Melbourne (a few water parks for summer), but nothing like this.
Have a great weekend.
In California in the early 20th century there were a lot of small beach-boardwalk type parks on the coast and then little roadside attraction type places further inland, and thankfully some of that stuff has survived even though the “road trip where you stop when you see something cool” era has passed. Gilroy Gardens is part of that tradition I think. I grew up in the middle of the US and there’s not a lot of stuff like that save for the historic Route 66 stuff. I loathe so much about America’s car culture, but at the same time a whole heck of a lot of our culture is based off of the fact that we all like to get in the car and drive for hours and hours.
Recent Purchases: a couple of lipsticks from REM Beauty, a couple Rare Beauty Highlighters, and a couple of blushes from Colourpop. I’ve been on a cheek product kick lately.
Rediscoveries: I’ve had fun this week letting the randomizer gods choose my palette for me.
Weekend plans: My son is on Christmas break for 2.5 weeks, so probably just chilling out, starting to clean for the holidays, and being a boring adult.
Do you have a favorite artist? Alphonse Mucha.
Alphonse Mucha! I love his work. I’m quite into Art Noveau, both art and more of the practical things, lamps, vases and of course jewelry. Not that I own much, but I’d love to.
I hope it hasn’t been too cold and snowy for you Celesta, where you live so that you can go out and get what you need for Christmas. Your little one would probably be a bit tired at the moment, so he would appreciate a chilled out weekend. I know my grandchildren that attend school are quite ‘ratty’ at the moment (according to their parents).
I hope you get all the cleaning done so you don’t have to think about it for awhile. Are you mum and MIL coming for Christmas?
That’s a LOT of little puppies! 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕
Purchases/rediscoveries: Placed a small order last night for MAC x Whitney Houston for Nippy’s Rose lipstick and Rose Plum blush. Will be looking to get a few more pieces (the highlighter and probably the eyeshadow palette, or the Cinnamon Lipglass) when I get paid again.
Realized that I did indeed still have some Marc Jacobs Dew Drops left, so my rediscovery has been using those mixed with my MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof foundation in NW30, and it really negates the oxidation of that particular foundation formula! Too bad that once it’s all gone, I’ll have to get something else like it.
Weekend plans: Zoom meeting tomorrow morning. Finish up my errata sheet from my deposition. Mail that in. Try to get a few loads of laundry done.
Favorite artist? I would have to say that all my favorite surrealism artists are dead! Beyond those who I have mentioned before already, I also love and appreciate much of the very intricate, yet bold graffiti artists who literally do an entire side of a larger building with sprawling murals. Sometimes many stories high!
Glad to read that you got all of those documents in re your deposition and I pray that it goes in your favour. I hope you are feeling better now and that the weather has cooled down in your area so you can get out and about. Take care Nancy.
Hi Genevieve, so am I, even though first I literally HAD to read the whole 200+ pages in order to proofread and make notations for the errata sheet, and this was very difficult to do for mental health reasons. Extremely triggering, but had to be done. I’m praying for judicial retribution for all of us litigants.
It REALLY dipped low this past week into the 30’s (Fahrenheit), and went to down to -7° in the Grand Canyon, if I was seeing correctly on my TV screen a few nights back! And I believe that most of us are loving it.
My daughter in law’s mother is having to do the same thing and it has been quite tough on her for probably the same reasons as you. As she said to me, you put all the awful things in a box in your brain and how you have to open the lid whether you like it or not to get some well deserved justice.
Take care Nancy.
Awww that video of the puppies put a big smile on my face!
Same here! I love just about everything furry, but especially BABY animals like puppies, kittens, bunnies, and even some non-furry ones like elephants, thanks to that being my daughter’s favorite animal! 🐶🐱🐼🐰🦝🐴🦥🐘🦦🦨🦇
Are you fostering the whole crowd? And the mum, who is darling? Winnie looks as if he went to a Holi festival, but it’s reflections. That is one dangerously cute bunch. I fell for CP Aurora. Artist: #1 would be Hokusai. The ‘claws’ of water in the Great Wave actually look like that, when photographed at 1/10000 of a second. Seriously. And Red Fuji is a real meteorological phenomenon. People think it’s modern art, but Hokusai lived in the 1860s. Hopper next. Art parody is my thing. CafePress and Redbubble rule. I have Dali Persistence of memory with a clock melted over my black and tan dachshund. I really can’t ever…..
Those puppies are just so gorgeous and cute – you really want to cuddle them.
Recent Purchases: Flower Beauty’s Autumn Rose lipstick and Natio’s Tubing mascara to add to my DIL’s Christmas goodies bag and finalising the last few presents for Christmas Day.
Rediscoveries: ND’s Glam and Fenty’s Freckle Fiesta lipstick
Weekend Plans: Probably for the first time ever, both sides of the hemisphere have experienced snow – it has been snowing here in our mountain areas this week because it has been so cold. The coming week is going to be warmer, though I am hoping for a coolish Christmas Day as that helps with all of the cooking.
Friday – I caught up with a bunch of teachers I use to work with – we regularly meet and have a great chat about what is going on in our lives.
Saturday – just some grocery shopping and finish wrapping up the presents.
Sunday – My husband and I are going out for lunch to celebrate our 46th Wedding Anniversary at a Yarra Valley winery.
My eldest son, who always buys me the makeup of my choice for my birthday, Mother’s Day and Christmas has told me that he already has my gift and it is one that I have sighed over…..trying to guess what it is. His work computer is next to our desk top, so he has heard me talking about it. Hmmm – I guess I am just going to have to wair for Santa to deliver it to me. He said that I will love it.
A favourite artist: I particularly like a lot of Australian outback art – Pro Hart is one of them and many Indigenous artists.
Congratulations on 46 years! I hope you and your man had a lovely time.
Recent Purchases: More L.A. Girl eyeliners!
Rediscoveries: Menagerie Cosmetics Violet Ink Palette
Weekend plans: We’re doing a homemade pizza night!
Do you have a favorite artist? No
Recent Purchases: They’re Real Mascara by Benefit and Hermès un Jardin sur le nil eau de toilette (I am so excited about this!!!!!)
Weekend Plans: Getting Well in time for Christmas Eve services
Favorite Artist: I am not sure what genre we are in. My favorite choreographer is Michael Fokine. My favorite composer is Vivaldi. My favorite performer/pop singer is Beyonce and my favorite actor of all time is Katharine Hepburn.
Puppies! ❤️😍. My mini LH dachshund puppy, Olive, is in her first heat and wearing her ‘period panties’ . I picked up a pack of the washable ones with frills.. so cute. George and Henry (the corgi bros) are neutered and not in the least interested. Don’t need to be a ‘Dorgi’ mom 😉
.
Recent purchases: a couple of concealers (I’m on a mission to find a replacement for discontinued product) and chose Kosas and Charlotte Tilbury, a trio of Victoria Beckham eyeliners, Gucci bronzing powder in shade 1 (I now have FOUR shades.. is anyone else this crazy, I dunno)
Rediscoveries: I’ve been using Sydney Grace Enduring Love (light) a lot this week. It’s such a versatile palette in that it has an excellent mix of cool and warm core neutral shades, and beautiful pops of shimmery colour. And the shadows are always so.darned.dependable.
Favourite Artist. I’m into a lot of art and my photography ‘hobby’ has become a full blown obsession. Consequently, I follow a lot of professional photographers. That said, I am also very much into supporting Canadian artists and my home has a fair number of canvases and I have a spot by my piano where I would love to feature another local artist. This year, I discovered Holly Ann Friesen and I feel a strong connection to her and her work in that we share a similar story; geeky sciencey on one hand, strongly artistic on the other. She sees the spaces and patterns in nature and her painting are not just about the subject, but also what falls between. Eventually one of her canvases will hopefully grace my wall.
Weekend plans: need to decorate my tree, start getting ready for Holiday guests.
Happy weekend all! Feel better, Christine!
RECENT PURCHASES: None. Money has been going toward Christmas.
WEEKEND PLANS:
Work paperwork. Take the kids shopping. Go grocery shopping and get some candy for the stockings.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ARTIST?
Van Gogh
I saw a Van Gogh exhibit when some pieces were loaned out to San Francisco and it was one of the most moving experiences of my life.
That must have been incredible! I’m glad (and jealous!) that you got to see some of his works.
