Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Bobbi Brown Luxe Lipsticks (7 more shades)!

Weekend plans: I’m still catching up on writing reviews/dupes. I’m hoping to work backwards on dupes this weekend (so publishing dupes for reviews as they post, and then try to catch up on what I’ve missed, which is a lot right now). I’m volunteering later today to give baths to two litters before the rescue’s big charity/fundraising event this evening!

Do you have any movies you love watching during fall/winter? We always watch a bunch of Christmas movies, though we try to wait until December to start – like the Grinch, Christmas Vacation, The Holiday, elf, Home Alone, and Klaus… have to put together a list soon 🙂

Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:

  • Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
  • Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
  • Flipplant (figure out the plant using a mix of text- and image-based clues)
  • Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
  • Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)

This week's doggo photo/video...

RECENT PURCHASES: I’ve put in a few orders, but nothing received.

WEEKEND PLANS: The young adults living here will be renting a townhouse owned by my husband’s friend, and get the keys Sunday. So doing the official walk-through and paperwork, and perhaps start moving some of their stuff.

Grocery shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. Since we knew the “kids” could be moving soon, we already ordered a large a Honey Baked Ham and are purchasing pies, so we just have to make sides.

DO YOU HAVE ANY MOVIES YOU LOVE WATCHING DURING FALL/WINTER? The Nightmare Before Christmas both seasons. Fall: Favorite spooky and horror movies are Corpse Bride, Coraline, Sleepy Hallow, The Shining, the original Night of the Living Dead, original first two Hellraisers, original A Nightmare on Elm Street, and MST3K and Rifftrax B movies. Gotta watch the MSTK3K Turkey Day marathon on Thanksgiving.

Winter, we watch The Muppets Christmas Carol, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon narrated by Boris Karloff, and Rifftrax Holiday offerings.

How absolutely wonderful for your family that your adult children will be finally getting to live in their own home! You won’t know yourselves – it will be much quieter, a lot less mess to tidy up and just peace. It will also be a bit of a bittersweet moment too – your babies are grown up and leaving the nest.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving too Rachel.

Nancy T Avatar

Rachel, I literally could cut, copy and paste what Genevieve said before me! The peace and tidiness is weighed with what she said: the bittersweet feelings of a now empty nest is a very real thing. On the other hand, you do have your Hubs all to yourself now, too! This is all a huge transitional time in your life. Positive, yet a little rough sometimes.

Recent Purchases: The Oden’s Eye Christmas palettes (they finally came in yesterday!), Kaleidos Escape Pod palette and a few of the newer blushes in the more unique tones.

Rediscoveries: I used my BH Cosmetics Passion in Paris palette a lot the past couple of weeks. I paired it with various Clionadh multichromes to switch up the color story when needed. I really love that palette.

Weekend plans: We’re decorating for Christmas this weekend! On Sunday evening we’re also going to a local art museum to view Christmas lights, which will be so pretty!

Do you have any movies you love watching during fall/winter? Well, I love all the seasonal holiday movies, but mostly I love watching Gilmore Girls when fall starts. It just feels right.

Genevieve Avatar

I just had a look at the Oden’s Eye website – and I tell you what – those lipsticks – Alva’s Kiss of a Fairy lipsticks are just looking fabulous and I am thinking of ordering some when the Black Friday sales hits the website. I love a good lippie for Christmas!
The other week I mentioned in my post to you that I wished we had some snow too – well it turned out that we got a blast straight from Antarctica and there was a dusting of snow on our local ranges – which is unheard of in late November. But completely lovely all the same.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful time at the art museum and putting up your Christmas tree.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Pat McGrath Labs Mothership Bronze Seduction and Moonlit Seduction palettes. I’ll be seducing left and right, lol. On the PMG sale, I also picked up the Nude Allure
5-Pan Eyeshadow Palette and the Divine Rose Celestial Nirvana Cheek Palette. They threw in a free Ritualistic Rose Blitz Astral Eyeshadow Quad, which I will give away as a gift to my friend getting into makeup. Such a huge sale! Practically getting two motherships for the price of one.

Weekend plans: It’s been a very busy week, so I’ll be catching up on rest and work. I’ll also be daydreaming about what changes I want to make to the home I purchased and looking up inspiration 🙂 I’m thinking of plastering, changing the tile, and stripping some paint.

Do you have any movies you love watching during fall/winter? Rewatching the HP movies and the Fantastic Beasts movies. I look forward to seeing what Christmas movies people are watching and maybe renting one of those when it snows!

Genevieve Avatar

Wow – you are Mothershipped out Kira – what great purchases and a fantastic bargain to boot. I love that Nude Allure 5 pan myself – I recently purchased the Bronze Bliss – which my son is going to give me for my birthday (he’s paid for it). And that’s a lovely gift the brand threw in as well.
I think it’s a good idea to daydream about your house changes because then you can visualise what you think you would like and think it through. What colour schemes are you planning to have Kira?

Kira Avatar

I am indeed Mothershipped out!! The Nude Allure 5 pan already arrived and it is a beauty! Incredible dimension on the colors! I hope you enjoy the lovely gift from your son. Bronze Bliss looks absolutely stunning as well!

For my home, there is a reddish kitchen tile, so I thought I would base the scheme around that – with natural wood colored cabinets, white quartz countertops, white tile backsplash with a few accent tiles, an earthy gray wall, and a white or metal kitchen table with candy red legs to set it off. Will grow fresh basil, green onions, and cilantro in the window!
Not sure what to do for the rest of the house, but with the wood parquet floors, I would like the “living room” area to have floor to ceiling mirrors between crown moulding so I can practice dance!

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No purchases except a set of magnetic lashes from Amazon. I wanna try to up the holiday glam in a spoons/disability friendly way. Otherwise it is all gifts right now! I am trying very hard to have my blinders up for BF sales as well, so I probably will only indulge if Eloquii is having a good sale.

Weekend plans: Finishing some apartment setup odds and ends so we can put our Christmas decorations up. We can’t have a tree this year because we have two seven-month-old kittens, but I do wanna put the other non-tree stuff out! I am also working on a creche/nativity for this art show that is taking place at the University I work at. i am doing something a little different and i think it will be cute.

Do you have any movies you love watching during fall/winter? On Christmas day we always watch Miracle on 34th Street (b&w version) first and then It’s a Wonderful Life second. Most years we will also watch Christmas Vacation, Krampus, Home Alone, Elf, White Christmas, Muppet Christmas Carol (but usually not all.) I feel like we have a pretty solid rotation but it’s been a while since we discovered any new-to-us Christmas movies.

Genevieve Avatar

Two seven month old kittens – well, aren”t they just adorable at that age? I can see why you can’t have a Chrissy tree up (although I am sure that the kittens would love it – much like a crawling baby).
I only buy from the BF sales if it is something (like skincare or a lipstick) that I use and would really like – I’m not into wholesale purchasing for the sake of it either. Have fun on your nativity project this weekend too.

Stephanie Avatar

The kittens are equal parts precious and monster and I love them so much! We have too many valuable ornaments to risk them climbing. The are brother and sister, and the girl is very sleek and petite (almost like an Abyssinian in her build and coat). She probably weighs 6 lbs and I doubt she is gonna get much bigger. Her brother, on the other hand, is already at least 10 lbs and likely still growing. Between the two of them… it is better to err on the side of caution.

Nancy T Avatar

Okay, so even though I don’t celebrate or observe the holidays, I must admit that I absolutely LOVE the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life”, because the first time I ever watched it at 17 years old, I was literally THERE mentally. This movie saved me from acting on an irreversible decision that I was in the midst of planning due to far too much trauma endured during that year.

Seraphine Avatar

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Still sick, so my recent purchases include soup, tea, cracker, tissues, antibiotics, and cough medicine…no makeup.

Weekend Plans: Stay home and continue binge-watching shows. Right now I’m watching the new season of “Dead to Me.”

Do you have any movies you love watching during fall/winter? I usually watch a lot of horror movies around Halloween. After Halloween: Elf, Nightmare Before Christmas, Bad Santa, A Christmas Carol (1935 or 1984), and Love Actually.

Seraphine Avatar

Thanks, Nancy! 🙂 It was only really bad for a few days (101 fever and a strep-level sore throat), but I’m thankful it wasn’t bad enough to go to the hospital. Paxlovid helped a lot. Now it’s just like a head cold and bronchitis lingering on and on and on… I can’t wait until this is over so I can get back to wearing makeup again!

Mariella Avatar

Seraphine, have you seen him in a film called Pirate Radio (alternately known as “The Boat That Rocked”) – about a pirate radio station operating from a boat in the UK? As a kid growing up in Canada, I couldn’t quite understand this whole issue or why regular stations didn’t play popular music (back in the 60’s, when I first heard of Radio Caroline and the whole issue of “pirate radio”). Anyway, it’s a wonderful film and the “recreated” 60’s scene of all manner of people (students, nurses, young teens, waitresses in tea shops, etc.) gathering to hear these broadcasts is one of the really fun things (they captured so much of the clothing and hairstyles really well) but the whole film is a delight. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. In addition to Bill Nighy, it has Emma Thompson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rhys Ifans and so many other great actors and, like Love, Actually, it was written and directed by Richard Curtis.

Mariella Avatar

I hope you can find it and I’d love to hear your impressions if you do. If nothing else, the music is out of this world (but the film itself is wonderful, with the exception of Kenneth Brannagh and his “assistant”).

Please do not push yourself too hard. We value you too much. Sir Winston with the pups, though! Reminds me of Wrigley, my Border Terrier Special, Champion Bradcliffe Firewalker. He was the only dog or bitch allowed in the puppy nursery, because he was just like Winnie. Patient to the max. The pups even chewed his boy parts and he never even moved away from those tiny teeth. Pets give us everything. I bought a couple of Muse recs at the past Ulta sale, including a Miss Flower Mr. Honey stick serum. No Sephora, no Ulta Black Friday/Cyber Monday, no dedicated brand sales. Absolutely no need. When I move, I’m looking forward to revisiting my stash, which has been packed away for a year and a half. Only the thought of it has prevented me from buying the Star Wars Darth, Baby Yoda, and Mandalorian palettes. Not even a SW fan, they’re just my preferences. Plans, more of the same, ‘and that ain’t good.’ Holidays are hard, as I have no family. No special holiday movies. But I do remember Ralphie (saw him recently as an adult, hah!) being double dog dared to stick his tongue on the icy flagpole. I guess there’s a sequel to A Christmas Story now..long time since 1983. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Irresistibly CUTE! 🐶

Purchases/rediscoveries: CRAZY that I have the exact same MAC x Black Panther collection items in 3 separate online retailers and I have been trying to decide what is the best deal! Macy’s; GWP of MAC Teddy lipstick, clear Lipglass and Naked Lunch e/s. Ulta; $13 off because points and $10 coupon. MAC: probably much better, safer packing? Haaalp? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Weekend plans: I will have to get food shopping done, but I haven’t been wanting to even make myself look presentable by doing a nice eye look and stuff. Just feeling very burnt out from all the anxiety surrounding my annual housing inspection, and then not even getting a “you passed” or anything from the inspector, nor a follow-up call from my caseworker. I had to email her yesterday in order to get an answer. Basically: “Nancy, yes, your unit passed inspection. Have a blessed day.” So, I’m haggard, and having not even played with my BEAUTIFUL SG In Mel’s Memory bundle yet, I’m seriously asking myself why I even have 3 carts of even more makeup ready to go! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Favorite fall/winter movies or TV show? Honestly, I don’t quite know anymore! Probably anything that has an autumnal or even snowy, chilly feel to it that isn’t the usual holiday stuff? This is what I get for moving my butt to the desert and no longer being able to drive! Very STUCK.

Nancy T Avatar

Rachel, I don’t know what is wrong with so many people on this particular side of the Valley, but seriously, so many stuck up, rude, inconsiderate ones over here. Really regret leaving Scottsdale! The part that makes it laughable is that there were far more well to do folks over there, but with mostly very pleasant, polite attitudes than over here. Just WILD.

Genevieve Avatar

Those puppies get more adorable every single minute! And how lovely, giving baths to some playful new puppies as well. I am sure that the local rescue centre really appreciate your help.

Recent Purchases: Just some more items for my daughter in law’s Chrismas goodies bag and I am eyeing off an EL White Linen perfume that’s half price at our local Priceline (budget beauty) store.
Rediscoveries: I have used quite a bit of ND’s Glam this week, as well as my SG singles.

Weekend Plans: It’s my birthday weekend (technically it is tomorrow – Sunday 20th here) and I worked like a trojan yesterday cleaning the house and getting it ready for my twin sister, who is coming to stay for a couple of days to join in on our family’s celebrations.
Tonight we are going to a family friendly hotel for dinner, with my youngest son, daughter in law and their tribe -it has the best children’s playground out and the food is pretty good too.
On Sunday we are heading off down to the Mornington Peninsula to a Winery for lunch and a walk along the board walk paths there.
We are just hoping that the weather co-operates a bit and just stops raining.

Movies for Autumn/Winter: I am not really a big movie watcher as such, but I do like a good series. So a bit of a murder mystery (not too gory or anything) is up my alley. Currently I am watching Season 2 of Departure — and that has been quite an interesting show.

Genevieve Avatar

Thank you Mariella -that’s why I am having all of our birthday festivities at restaurants – no cooking, cleaning or even thinking about it – that is a birthday present in itself. We had a wonderful night out last night and will have a lovely day today. Thank you for your birthday wishes for us both.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: My first About Face order during their sale!
Weekend plans: Homemade pizza night tomorrow!
Do you have any movies you love watching during fall/winter? Over the Garden Wall series for sure! And Krampus haha!

BrandiD Avatar

Recent purchases/Rediscoveries: I bought Urban Decay’s Wild Greens on sale at TJ Maxx, not really expecting much from it, and have been pleasantly surprised by the looks I’ve created from it this week. To be honest, I wouldn’t have been happy paying full price but for $16.99 it does a lot of peach and green combinations that I like, and blends out relatively easily. The color payoff isn’t great, but being a pale person this works for me. I’ve also been trying the Colourpop Lippie Stix I got at Target, and while I don’t like Parker (it’s a dupe for MAC’s Velvet Teddy, which I’ve realized I don’t like on me either — just too pale) I do really like Brink and Ziggie. All in all, I’ve had a very positive week for experimenting with new looks!

Weekend plans: My BFF is heading to a snowy state over the holidays, so we spent today at a gold mine of a thrift shop near her house, picking out mittens/gloves and snow gear for the entire family. We were able to outfit all four of them, including snow boots for the kids which is amazing. I do not live in an area where it snows, so I have no idea why this thrift was so abundantly supplied with snow gear. It is a local shop! Our plumbing issues are mostly resolved, but we are waiting for the insurance people on Monday who will check out the damage and see about replacing the walls/flooring. This weekend, I plan to chill at home and send a little birthday gift to my oldest who is away at college.

Fall/winter movies: We have a tradition as a family of watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation together every year. I also have a soft spot for the Muppet Christmas Carol, although the Patrick Stewart version is really more faithful to the original. A Charlie Brown Christmas often makes an appearance in our house as well, due to how much my children watched it when they were small. I’m not a huge fan of holiday movies otherwise, but will try new ones from time to time.

Mariella Avatar

Purchases – nothing, unless you count oral anti-histamines and topical cortisone cream (allergic reaction after removal of surgical dressing – I was fine til 2 days AFTER it was removed)! Rediscoveries: La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP – their anti-itch formula. The skin on my operated leg has been so disgustingly dry and flaking but also sensitive and I recall buying this for myself after I’d bought it for my late mother in law, who’d begun scratching herself so badly that she’d bleed. Anyway, it’s a bland, hydrating and gentle product to use around (but not on) the area where I developed the contact dermatitis.

Weekend plans: not much – we’re bracing for the tale end of the snowstorm that’s crippled Buffalo and areas around. One of my dearest friends – who’s been a “helper fairy” – leaving treats and frozen dinners on our front porch and then texting “check your front door” – is coming over for a brief visit in the morning (I’m really not up for much more than a quicky visit). Hubs will go out to get fresh donuts from Donut Monster and then we’ll have tea, coffee, donuts and a short visit. Beyond that, it’s just getting through my daily exercises and all the rest (it’s alarming how a quick shower takes the better part of an hour because I’m still moving slowly and cautiously).

Movies I like to watch during fall and winter: I can’t think of any “seasonal” films but I always enjoy watching Charade (Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Paris – I mean, come ON!!!) and the original Ghostbusters.

Nancy T Avatar

I know that you know that I completely understand how that post-surgical period is, Mariella! It’s one time in ones life that will test a person’s patience and everything else to the hilt. I’m so sorry that you had a very uncomfortable, to put it mildly, allergic reaction upon removal of the surgical dressing. Hopefully, you’re receiving all the assistance and comforting that you need during your recovery. 🫂

Genevieve Avatar

The weather around your way has made the news here in Melbourne – so it sounds pretty brutal too.
I hope you are starting to feel a bit better and the LRP cream is one of the best – my girlfriend used it post surgery as well and found it to be wonderful.
Your helper fairy sounds delightful and what a good friend she is.
Take care Mariella

Sarah Avatar

Rediscoveries: MAC Paint Pot in Painterly is perfect for a ‘nude eye’ with some black mascara, of course.

Purchases: NABLA stylo pencil In Cappuccino bc you reviewed it so highly and I had a 10 dollar birthday coupon from ulta. It arrives Sunday!

Weekend Plans: Nothing unusual

Movies I love to watch in the fall/winter: Nothing particular. My friend always livetweeted a Holiday movie but I doubt that will happen this year. That was my Holiday tradition!
