Awwww, sweet sleepy Winston!

This week has been hard here because we had to rather suddenly say goodbye to our corgi Daisy. It’s the first time in 39 years of life I have been without pets, so I’m going to be living vicariously through everyone else’s Instagrams for a while.

Purchases: I put in an order at Little & Grim, my friend’s indie perfume shop. Mostly I wanted to order her handmade masks because they’re my spouse’s favorite style and with Delta on the rise we’re being careful about masking again. But I got myself one full-size scent and a fun-pack of samples of experiments, as well as some pins and stickers she added to the shop.

Weekend plans: Tomorrow we’re going to walk downtown for Edmonds Summer Fest (an art and craft fair) and maybe also hit the usual Saturday farmer’s market. On Sunday, we are going to the zoo. One of my spouse’s university friends is in Seattle for vacation with his wife and he asked if we’d like to go to the zoo with them, so that will be nice. It’s going to be a much busier weekend than I’ve grown accustomed to in the past 16 months!

Early bird or night owl? I used to be SUCH a night owl, but the job I am leaving now was based in Israel and London, so I got used to starting work at 8am to have a small amount of overlap with my co-workers in case I needed anything from them to get my work done for the day. Now that I am leaving that job for one based here in WA, I am looking forward to starting at 9am or maybe even later (since I will be extremely part time to start). I doubt I’ll completely return to my old night owl ways, but it will be nice to have a more relaxed morning instead of rolling out of bed and immediately having to solve problems and write an edit documents.

Oh, so sorry about Daisy. You certainly need time to grieve, but Corgis bring such intelligence and bright personalities as well as skills to your life. I’m sure I already said what my mother said, first about border collies, and later about corgis, ‘Not a good idea. You really ought not get a dog that is smarter than you.’ When you are ready…..

AJ Avatar

Daisy was smart in very specific circumstances, and otherwise could be surprisingly obtuse, but she was very good-natured and eager to please in most situations.

It will probably be a few years at least until we get another pet. In the past 5 years we have lost all 4 of our pets that we had in our adult lives (we adopted one of our cats when we were dating when I was 17!), and all of them had serious illnesses before they went and 3 had to be put to sleep, so it has been VERY traumatic and we need a lot of time to heal.

Genevieve Avatar

So sorry to read about Daisy. It really leaves a big hole in your life when a beloved pet passes away. And to have a busy weekend will help you get through the days.
Having a relaxed morning is a joy, a little sparkle of sunshine even when it’s raining. You will love it and I hope the job works out for you.

Mariella Avatar

Sorry to read about your Daisy (we had a Daisy too – we had to have her put to sleep in June 2006 and there still isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think of her). I hope you can find some heart’s ease in the good memories and the knowledge that you gave her the best life a dog could have.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Purchased another jar of Bum Bum Cream because it’s one of my favorite body lotions. Also decided to spring on the new Kosas lip oil minis trio, the Undressed collection. I love Kosas lip oil and all three of these shades are winners. I hope the brand extends these shades to full size.

Weekend plans: I managed to get my husband into Final Fantasy XIV as well. I’ve been playing it for a year and a half now; he’s in with this new batch of players while the game surges in popularity. We both want a low-key weekend where we can focus on our characters. Because we’re gamer nerds.

Are you an early riser or night owl? An early riser, most definitely. It’s going to sound strange, but I really live my best life when I go to bed at 8 and get up at 4. I love the silence of the world when it’s fast asleep and beginning to wake up. Nothing is cozier than drinking a cup of coffee and just enjoying the peace. I get so much stuff done in the early dawn hours due to that energy.

Genevieve Avatar

I really do get how the world is so silent and still at the wee small hours of the morning, although in winter it’s hard for me to motivate myself to get up that early. But the kids are up around about 6ish and sometimes I get up with them and it will be lovely when summer comes.

Great capture of Winston! His toes look so nicely groomed!
Purchases/rediscoveries:
I’m doing well on my no-buy July, so nothing new there. I’ve been reaching for my UD eye primer in Sin lately. It’s a perfect no crease, one-and-done eye right now.
Weekend plans:
I’m actually taking a two day dog psychology and behavior course on-line. Yeah, my life pretty much revolves around the dogs. 🙂
Early riser:
I’ve always been a sleeper. So I go to bed very early and get up with the sun, or earlier depending on time of the year.

Awwww, sleepy puppy! So cute!

RECENT PURCHASES:
*Spoiled Lips Cosmetics (sale) — Monster Squad, RIP My Youth, and Planchette palettes; (GWP) Liquid Lipstick in Jerri.
*Other — Jumbo Size Paula’s Choice Jumbo Skin Perfecting Exfoliant; Elogical Host Club Blush Palette.

REDISCOVERIES: My lipsticks and glosses. How I missed them! Coloured Raine Fruity Juicy Palette. No, it’s not their best, but I’ve been getting some pretty, simple summer looks from it. That glittery fuchsia though… The. Worst.

WEEKEND PLANS: We’re taking my younger son down to his grandmother’s this afternoon and picking him up Sunday evening. I’m not sure what we’ll be doing otherwise.

ARE YOU AN EARLY RISER OR NIGHT OWL?: I’ve always been a night owl and insomniac.

Genevieve Avatar

Some nice little goodies you have purchased Rachel – those RIP My Youth and Plancette palettes (which I have just looked up) seem to suit you very well – just your shades and style, I would think.
I hope your younger son enjoys his time with hi grandmother too. Have a peaceful weekend Rachel.

Rachel R. Avatar

Thank you! Yesterday hubby and I went out to lunch at our favorite Thai restaurant,. Then we worked on airplane wings at his hangar.

My younger son got hired on the spot at his Nike interview, so we spent all last week working with his job coach and doing forms. He’s excited and stressed, so he wanted to visit family while he had time and just relax.

I’ve heard good things about Spoiled Lips formula, and have been wanting to try them for awhile. After seeing Robert Welsh try the Planchette and RIP My Youth and liking them, that sealed the deal..

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Holifrog Grand Amino Cushion Cream. I am trying to streamline my skincare routine and I am hoping this will replace my niacinamide serum and my moisturizer.

Weekend plans: Just chilling

Are you an early riser or night owl?: I am an early riser now but that’s happened only in the past few years. I was a night person growing up, in school, and for much of my work life.

Ana Maria Avatar

Recent Purchases: Nothing new, probably I will be quietly waiting for all th deals for my birthday month.

Rediscoveries: Black eye pencil. I haven’t worn eye pencils during this past years that much, so I decided to incorporate them more before tossing them (they are pretty old at this point, at least 2 years). I forgot how well defined my eye look with a little bit of tightlining.

Weekend plans: The weekly reminder that my life is boring as heck. 😅 My weekly long hikes (preferably redwoods), chores, groceries, hour long calls with my mom. I have to get my eye brows threaded.

Are you an early riser or night owl?: Kind of both, and from there all my catching up with sleep come from. I like to be up and ready in the morning, get my makeup done and maybe squeeze a walk around the apartment complex before meetings start at work; which is usually 8am. But then I also stay quite late to read or call my family and friends back in Europe. I have no issues getting up early in the morning and be fresh, but for some tasks I still feel more productive in the evening, so I end up being an night owl also.

Celesta Avatar

Recent Purchases: Nothing as of now, but I may purchase a few TerraMoons singles for the restock tonight. I was thinking of purchasing the Shroud It’s Freaking Bats palette during their restock, but I’m not sure; I’ve heard endless horrible things about the brands CS and experienced some of those things my self.

Rediscoveries: Nothing this week, really.

Weekend plans: Cleaning/relaxing on Saturday and on Sunday I’m driving up to the Chicago area to attend a bridal shower for one of my very dearest friends from college (she was also my college roomie for 2 years) and will also get to see a slew of other college friends as well and I’m SO excited. I haven’t seen them all in several years.

Are you an early riser or night owl?: Early riser, definitely. I like having a few quiet moments in the morning before the house wakes up to enjoy my coffee.

Genevieve Avatar

How fantastic that you are now able to even go to a bridal shower in Chicargo after all the the covid restrictions you have faced. It will be great to catch up with your college friends and see what they are all up to now. Will your husband and son be going with you?

Mariella Avatar

Recent purchases: Makrut Lime body oil, Japanese Camellia Body Butter and tubs of Shea Body Butter from The Body Shop; some essential oil blends from Saje (a scent I like is being d/c’d – it was an LE item – so I got 3 bottles for 20% off). Rediscoveries – Tarina Tarantino’s Dreamy palette – it really is a dream. I wish I’d got one or two more eyeshadow palettes before the entire line went “poof”.

Weekend plans: back to working out with my trainer tomorrow morning. Other than that and mundane stuff (house work, finishing a linen dress I’m making and – Murphy’s law – ran out of the particular colour thread part way through top-stitching, which shows) and getting the house read for older son’s visit home.

Early riser or night owl? By nature, I’m a night owl (the best job I ever had was working at an artsy movie theatre….I’d start work at 6 and work til midnight – it was terrific) but my job requires me to be an early riser and now, that’s habit (but I still love staying up late).

Genevieve Avatar

Funny about that job of yours requiring early attendance….hmmm – I recall those days really well when I would be up at 5.45 and at work by 7 am just to get through the day. But I loved staying to read as well.
I hope you are able to get some more of the colour thread for that beautifully simple and elegant dress you are making. What a darn nuisance.
So, your son got his pass to come home has he? If so – how wonderful it will be.

Mariella Avatar

Early rising is now sort of the habit of a lifetime. I “slept in” til 7 am the other day and felt mildly shocked (would the coffee still be drink-able?). But I still love staying up late…and since it’s summer, I can but rarely do.

Winston is growing up fast!
Haul: Juvia’s Place Mint, Army and Grey Rebel mini palettes , Adept Kodanne palette. Rediscovering Clionadh multi-chromes and playing with my Temptalia palettes
Weekend Plans: Need to move stuff out of my pantry because they have to replace my wood floors next week due to water damage from the A/C. Probably get some good carry out food. Tampa is having a serious Delta surge so no going out much for us.

Are you an early riser or night owl ? I’m a night owl from a family of night owls. When I was young and coming home late after the clubs the whole family would be wide awake in the kitchen, lol. I can call my Mom at 2am and she’s up talking like it’s daytime. Plus I’m a retired RN who worked the 7p-7a night shift for many years. But I also worked 7a-7p day shift and got up every single morning with my kids when they were in school.

Genevieve Avatar

We are having a bit of a Delta surge here – 10 caes and our state govt. calls a lockdown, but the situation is easing and hopefully, cross fingers and pray that our restrictions will ease next Tuesday and at least kids can go to school. Are the authorities thinking of imposing restrictions in Tampa?
It’s hard not to resist playing with the Temptalia palettes isn’t it? They are so beautiful.

Nancy T Avatar

Aww! Look at that sweet baby puppy sleeping! 💙
I wonder how Winston handled that MASSIVE storm last night? I know it was exceptionally severe over that way! ⛈️😱⛈️

Purchases/rediscoveries: Nothing in either department. However, last Sunday one of my closest friends admired Aurora on my lids so much that she ordered the Quintessence palette!

Weekend Plans: Since it’s expected to be a very stormy, soggy and cooler than normal all weekend, I may go up to Nordie’s Rack to see if I can find some recently DC’d favorite UD Vice lipsticks. Zoom meeting tomorrow morning, as long as I sleep well tonight. My Crohn’s had me so sick last night that I know that the Remicade isn’t working for me anymore.

Early or late riser: Unfortunately, I became a late riser as I’ve grown older and no longer bounce back from a night of insomnia or rough sleep the way I used to.

Genevieve Avatar

How awful that the Remicade is not working as effectively now as before – that is so, so terrible. Is there any other medication you can pair with it to bolster its effects? It must be so painful for you. I hope there is something that you can do for this. It’s a shocking disease.
Well, I do hope you can get some Vice lipsticks to cheer you up – that is my first beauty product of choice when I need a good boost.

Recent Purchases: The Milani Conceal + Perfect Concealer, Replica Sailing Day Perfume, Tower 28 Lip Jelly in Cashew & a mini Rare Beauty Lip Souffle Matte Cream duo, Bareminerals Copper palette

Rediscovery: Jouer Skinny Dip palette, MAC Foiled Eyeshadows in White Haute, Monaco-co & Sand Tropez, Chanel Tan de Chanel Bronzer, NARS Orgasm blush & Lancôme Blush Subtil in Cedar Rose

Weekend Plans: Work & grocery shopping

I’m a night owl by nature but work has wiped that out of me. I make sure I’m in bed by 10/10:30 and I can never sleep past 7:30 if I have a day off. That’s sleeping in for me. Much better than being up until 2 am and sleeping into noon like my younger self😉

Genevieve Avatar

How gorgeous is Winston, curled up falling asleep like that after a long day. He is so, so cute.

Recent Purchases: I purchased a couple of bottles of my favourite foundation – L’Oreal True Match in porcelain rose when it was half price.
But my best arrival, of course, is the On The Horizons palette light, from SG. It is gorgeous, so much more stunning than pictures could ever show on a computer screen and I have used it every single day since I received it last Tuesday.

Rediscoveries – MAC Chili lipstick, CP Tea Thyme.

Weekend Plans: Well, we are still in Lockdown 5.0 and the weather has been awful – lots of rain, wind and icy weather. The only bright part is that kindergartens are still open and Lachlan can go to his kinder sessions, so Olivia can get on with her remote learning.
This weekend a couple of cold fronts, straight from Antartica are due to hit, so it will be mostly indoors for us. Lucky the Olympics are on.

Early Riser or Night Owl – when I was working full time as an educator – I generally was at school by 7 am and was an early riser, but now that I have retired I am more of a Night Owl…..

Mariella Avatar

I was wondering if your Temptalia palette had arrived yet. Excited that you’ve got yours….isn’t it gorgeous???

Oh, that surge in cases…what a nightmare. At least you can stay indoors to avoid the dreadful weather. Speaking of the Olympics, did you her about the kerfuffle with the Women’s Beach Volleyball outfits??? Bulgaria’s women wore bike style shorts rather than the thong bikini bottoms that are mandated (along with midriff baring bra tops). Is it really 2021? The men wear shorts (4 inches above the knee) and tank tops but the women have to wear bikini bottoms and tops. Good on the Bulgarian team for incurring a fine to bring this issue into the headlines! Also, there have been over 100 cases of Covid in the Olympic Village (I’m clearly someone who thinks they should have delayed yet another year…). I hope things improve for you folks. We’ve opened up somewhat more here and – big surprise – the numbers are climbing, though slowly. UGH.

Seraphine Avatar

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No new makeup, but I just bought a new UV-protection sun umbrella.

Weekend plans: Bringing one of my guitars to an artist friend so he can paint gorgeous flowers on the pickguard. Going out to dinner with my two favorite friends on Sunday.

Are you an early riser or night owl? Night owl.

Stephanie Avatar

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing in the past couple of weeks outside of a new setting spray… I am on a low-buy so I am trying to be good!

Weekend plans: Relaxing! I have to take shots once monthly for a chronic illness, and they make me a little tired–today was my shot day. My mom and I might go to the flea market tomorrow morning, though, and Sunday we are having a made-from-scratch pizza party as an early birthday treat for my mother.

Are you an early riser or night owl?: I used to be a total night owl and I felt the most awake and creative after midnight, but that’s shifted pretty dramatically in the past few years. Now I usually go to bed by 10 and even on sleep in days I will be up by 8.

Zia Avatar

Recent Purchases: Got my first Lethal Cosmetics shimmer shades. Still deciding how I feel about them. I think I’ve become spoiled by other super sparkly shifting shades now.
Rediscoveries: Bobbi Brown high shimmer lipgloss! I never really stopped wearing them except for… you know… pandemic stuff. But I so so wish they hadn’t eliminated most of the colors 🙁
Weekend plans: Helping out family tomorrow and visiting with a friend Sunday.
Are you an early riser or night owl?: Neither? I’m just a late morning to 1030pm person lol
