  • Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Biossance Hand Sanitizer (has squalane in it, so I’m curious if it’ll be less drying). Peace Out Acne Healing Dots, The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid, Shiseido Instant Eye & Lip Makeup Remover, Melt Cosmetics She’s in Parties Palette,
  • Weekend plans: I’m hoping there won’t be too many fireworks this 4th — for Mellan’s sake! I need to tidy up the kitchen and front hall a bit, as my mother-in-law and brother-in-law are moving here in a couple of weeks!
  • Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise?: I usually am awake quite quickly, but I will stay warm and cozy under the covers for 10 to 15 minutes while checking email, social media, etc.

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Recent Purchases: I was able to get to The Body Shop to replenish one of my fave shower gels (I was getting perilously close to the bottom of the bottle) only to find it’s being discontinued so I was able to buy up the remaining bottles for $5 each. Also bought a “purchase with purchase” of a makeup bag and 3 minis of their products. My friend who was shopping with me was going to spend a silly amount on some stuff in another store just to get the bag it came in; I suggested she wait and we’d find something and then – voila! Meant to be. So I gave it all to her. I also purchased some more oil blends at Saje – Bliss, Chill Out, Daydream, Present Moment and Intention.

Weekend plans: Facetime training tomorrow morning but beyond that, no plans at all

Jump out of bed??? Are you kidding???? I’ve never been a morning person though decades of having to get up early mean that I still get up early, even when I don’t have to. But I don’t greet the day with a bounce of joy or a spring in my step and I think part of the reason I still get up early is so I can linger over my morning coffee and the paper til I feel like getting moving.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I have been doing stress shopping and have been buying things I wish I had had during the lockdown…Rita Hazan Root Cover, glue on acrylic nails in red, purple and navy blue from Etsy, and dpHue scalp scrub.

Weekend plans: We have been invited to a barbecue (no more than 8 guests promised) but I am not ready. My husband wants to go but I am hoping to convince him otherwise. So actually I hope we do nothing.

Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise? I need time but my cats insist that they need food so I stumble out. After they have been fed, I sit on the couch and stare into space for about 15 minutes before I get going with coffee, etc.

Recent Purchases: No makeup. Just groceries and a back massager.

Weekend plans: It’s depressing that I can just cut and paste the same answer every week: Weekly Zoom happy hour with friends, reading, watching TV, household chores, etc.

Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise? I need time. My alarm is set for 30 minutes before I have to get up so I can drift back to sleep, and then 15 minutes later so I can slowly wake up.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: NARS Liquid blush in Orgasm. I picked it up 2 weeks ago and can’t bring myself to put anything else on my cheeks!

Weekend plans: It’s hot as blazes here right now, we celebrated Canada Day on Wednesday and I took the following 2 days off work to rest and de-stress. Been enjoying the pool and time with my family. Will do more of the same this weekend before Monday comes round.

Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise?: I might pause for a minute or two but I pretty much get up right away. I’m a morning person. Didn’t use to be but as I’ve gotten older I just can’t stay asleep for too long. Plus… I’d rather watch the sunrise over the sunset.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new… yet.
I might take advantage of 4th of July sales to get a new phone (the screen on my current ones started to have some dead pixels).
I’m scoping if Macy’s will have a sale on cosmetics. I love my Kiehls microdermabrasion scrub enough to pay $41, but if I can get a 20% off on it I won’t mind.

Weekend plans: Searching for places where I can enjoy nature without crowds. Today was a success, I discovered a new opened redwoods area and I enjoyed 3 hours of almost empty trails!
I am glad that here in the Bay Area we usually don’t have too many fireworks, my cat is absolutely traumatized by them. But 2020 is a crazy year, we had random fireworks at night in the past 3 weeks. Sometimes even as late as 1-2am.

Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise?: If I am up, I am up. I hate lingering in bed.

Recent Purchases:
*Hank & Henry — Palette Bundle: Fuego, Sweet Toof, Spring Fling, and Las Hermanas.

*YesStyle — Rude Cosmetics City of Light and The Roaring 20’s palettes. The Saem Saemmul Single Blusher in Blueberry Milk, Baby Coral, Desert Peach, Bubble Gum Pink, Yogurt Pink, Rose Ribbon, and Rose Ground. The Saem Iceland Micro Hydrating Eye Stick. The Saem Yum Yum Lip Syrup in Strawberry and Cherry.

Weekend plans: The usual. We’ll probably grill some food and spend family time together on Saturday. We haven’t had the heart to really celebrate Independence Day since 2016. I think I’m enough out of my funk to actually dye my hair this weekend. I’ve got at least 4″ of brunette roots, as I haven’t colored it since early March. I had the dye, I was just too busy, anxious, and depressed.

The snake is still doing well. He had a checkup, and there is now enough new skin to stretch it over all but the widest part of the wound. He’s scheduled for the 15th to have that skin sutured closed, which will cut his healing time in half and leave less scarring.

Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise?: I usually just stumble out of bed in a semi-fugue state, and only because I need to pee. I’m a mom, though, and I can jump out of bed quickly if I need to.

I agree, Mellan, 5:30 a.m. is way too early! ?

Purchases/ rediscoveries: I did the thing! Just placed my long awaited order for PML Divine Rose II Mothership Palette today through your sales link. So excited to have finally taken the plunge! Other than that, I rediscovered my old UD e/s singles of Tonic and Dive Bar today. Now I can definitively say with certainty that UD really could have done so much better than what they did with Naked Ultraviolet. They DO know how to formulate and produce knockout purples!

Weekend plans: Meeting via Zoom tomorrow morning. Then food shopping in the afternoon. Was planning to do that today, but our local buses are on a Sunday schedule today because City of Phoenix et al declared today as a holiday. Didn’t know that when I left the house earlier. Came back drenched. Our few point is 57°, with a temp of 106°. Yuck.

Jump out of bed or need time to rise? Hahahaha!!! I probably hit the snooze button several times before I finally haul my half-dead carcass out of my happy place, my bed. Definitely NOT one to jump up and greet the day!

Recent Purchases: Several Clionadh Multichrome shadows for their September restock.

Rediscoveries: My MakeupGeek single shadows! I’m trying to find a magnetic palette that is large enough to hold all of my singles in one place and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, so if anyone has any suggestions let me know! I feel like I will reach for them more when they’re not all divided up and then I can create my own mini palettes and get some more use out of them.

Weekend plans: Chasing after a wild and defiant toddler. I’m trying to figure out a way to see my mom (I haven’t seen her since Christmas and it’s killing me).

Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise?: I usually get out of bed within a couple minutes of waking, but move a little slowly until I get some coffee in me.

Yes Mellon, that’s how I feel on hot days! Soon you’re going to have company to spoil you some more.
I hope eveything is going well with your parents in law’s move Christine. A busy time for you both. Kitchens always need cleaning and tidying!

Recent Purchases: I went looking for a new eyebrow pencil in a soft taupe…hard to find at the moment. I purchased one, but it was too dark for me. The MUA at Priceline, our budget beauty shop here, is a former student of mine. I taught her in Grade 3 – it seems like yesterday. She helped me to find a blonde one from Maybelline that suits me better.

Rediscoveries: Today I fished out my City Color singles in Cleo and Sandstorm and they remind me of how good they are – just stunning and versatile shades.

Weekend Plans: We’ve experienced another surge in Covid 19 cases and there are 36 suburbs of Melbourne in lockdown – towards the north and west of the city. Luckily, where I live in the Outer East of Melbourne we have very few active cases (3).
It means that we are still going to be very careful and basically stay at home this weekend.
So it will be housework, cooking and cleaning…all the ‘fun’ things.

ShariP Avatar

Genevieve, thankfully you are safe. Hopefully this will only be a small temporary rise in cases. We’ve still been on tight restrictions here. Our governor only lifted our lockdown a couple weeks ago and not everything is completely opened. Hopefully this pandemic is over soon. Stay safe everyone.

That’s too early for me too Mellan! Good luck with your In-law’s move Christine.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Dr. Jart Dark Spot Patches, we will see if they work on my hyperpigmentation.
Weekend plans: We just had Wednesday off for Canada Day so this is a weird week. Our Calgary Stampede was supposed to start today so it’s kind of surreal that it’s this time of year and there’s no or very subdued celebrations happening. My husband is hinting at doing some painting outside so we might tackle that in between the thunderstorms this weekend.
Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise?: I usually look through my phone before I get up, unless I have a headache, then I have to get up right away to relieve the pressure on my head.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’ve actually bought some makeup. It was loads of fun getting some new stuff.
From MAC: Sunphoria and Tide ‘N’ Seek eye shadows, I have used them almost daily and really like them both. Also from MAC, Craving, Cote D’Amour and Set to Sizzle lipsticks all really good, Craving was on my list, the other two, I decided to buy after reading the reviews here, and seeing the swatches. Set to Sizzle is my favourite out of the three, and I managed to almost break it, I have no idea how and of course it’s sold out. I can still use it, but have to be super careful.

Weekend, I was going to garden, cut the by rat too high grass so I can actually use the lawn mower (is that the word?) It’s raining, so no outdoor work will be done, and the stupid mower wont start. So I do nothing, really.

Do you jump out of bed or need time before you rise? Jump, yes, if one of the dogs are sick and barf otherwise I need a long time to wake up, I snooze a long time, often until the bigger dog gets tired of waiting and starts barking. If allowed, I’d probably snooze for hours, I like staying up at night, so not a morning person.

Mellan is adorable and totally relatable.
